"I can't believe him." Lindy huffed, bringing her knees up to her chest. "I mean, he says some pretty stupid stuff every once in a while, but this? This just takes the cake."
"I know…" Jasmine muttered under her breath, slumping backwards onto the couch, "I told him I liked him, and he basically showed he isn't interested in me. Just my secrets."
"I thought for sure he was interested though. What about all the stuff that happened? He tried to seduce you. The almost kiss after your date a while back? Him acting jealous?"
"I guess I was wrong." Jasmine growled, a little dejectedly. "I thought he wanted to be with me, but this whole time, he was just toying with me! What kind of asshole does that?"
"Only my brother…"
Jasmine sighed, trying not to think so much about how much her heart hurt. Sometimes she wondered why she even liked him so much, but she did and this was tearing her apart. She refused to cry though. She was too proud to let tears fall because of some guy, even if said guy was someone she had liked for a very long time. Why did he have to trample all over her confession like that?
"Stupid Logan…"
"Can't argue with you there…" Lindy agreed, popping another grape in her mouth as she took a selfie to send to someone. "But it's kind of surprising. Logan just doesn't seem like the type who would purposely hurt someone in a cunning fashion."
"I know right? Cunning and Logan? They don't go in the same sentence." Jasmine snorted, smiling fondly.
Lindy laughed too, shaking her head in mirth as she picked up another couple of grapes.
"And I know Logan would never use me like that. We're best friends and he definitely cares." Jasmine continued. "But you should have heard him! Everything he said just made it sound worse and worse… And he just happened to slip in that he liked me after I snapped at him."
"So you're not actually mad at him anymore?"
"…Not mad. Just a little deceived. And really hurt. He better make it up to me." Jasmine ran her hands through her hair, wincing slightly when the motion made the bump on her forehead throb. "Damn. Where is Delia for some much needed love and relationship advice?"
"Nerds R Us Inc. meeting."
"I thought it was Nerds R Us?"
"She changed it for aesthetic purposes." Lindy scoffed, rolling her eyes and scrolling some more on her phone.
Jasmine nodded, but stayed silent, her mind stowing over what had happened with Logan. And aside from the fact that he had royally screwed up, what bothered her most was the fact that he hadn't even chased after her. If he honestly wanted her, wouldn't he have come after her?
Logan you dumbass…
She knew she had told him to leave her alone, but she had secretly been hoping that maybe he'd come after her anyway. Jasmine knew she was being ridiculous getting disappointed by him actually listening to her request, but she couldn't help but think that if he really wanted her, he would have honestly not cared and continued to pursue. But damn… She had really gotten mad at him though. Maybe he was keeping his distance because he thought she was the one who honestly couldn't stand him. And she had been pretty vengeful.
Maybe some of this fallout is my fault too…
And then Lindy gasped, rousing Jasmine out of her thoughts.
"Oh my God…" she said, staring at her phone.
"What?" Jasmine asked, raising a brow and consequently grimacing because it hurt.
Lindy said nothing and handed her phone over her shoulder so Jasmine could see what she was looking at.
It was an Instagram posted by Tracy about five minutes ago.
Of Logan.
Laying on Tracy's bed looking comfortable out of his mind.
"Read the caption." Lindy stated, looking a little angry.
"Guess who… hooked up with this cutie?!"
Jasmine's blood ran cold, her jaw clenched so tightly the pressure was making her ears ring. What the fuck. What the actual fuck was this crap?
She gave Lindy her phone back, her eye twitching at that provocative image she had seen.
Lindy took the phone and shot to her feet. "Okay, I am officially going to kill Logan. Who the hell tells someone they like them and then sleeps with another girl?!"
Jasmine said nothing.
Lindy snatched up her jacket. "I'm gonna go to the boy's apartment to figure out what the hell Logan is thinking."
Jasmine still didn't respond, staring at the ceiling with pursed lips and a sour expression.
"Don't you have anything to say, Jaz?"
"No." she said, "Logan screws up a lot of stuff, but even I don't think he'd be dumb enough to hook up with Tracy again."
Unless he had honestly been toying with her the whole time. But she really didn't want to believe that at all. Not about Logan. Besides, this was Tracy of all people who had posted the image and she trusted Tracy about as much as she trusted a cockroach. Logan was her best friend, and he definitely cared about her well-being. It wasn't like him to do something like that, and he would have known how hurt she would be if he went back to Tracy.
But the thing that made apprehension prickle in the back of her mind was the fact that he'd gone to Tracy's in the first place. Why would he go? And Tracy had propositioned him earlier. It planted seeds of doubt in her mind.
"I want to hear his side of the story."
"So do I." Lindy said, picking up her keys as she headed to the door. "Garrett's gotta know something. I'm going to force it out of him."
Lindy slammed the door as she rushed out and Jasmine was left to her thoughts again, slowly growing a little more dismal with each second that passed.
If it was true and Logan had actually slept with Tracy, Jasmine would be heartbroken. If it was true, how much of his romantic actions toward her had been for some sort of ploy? What if he had been playing her the entire time? She honestly hoped that was not the case, because their friendship was definitely almost nonexistent at that moment. And if he had been toying with her and fucking with her feelings this entire week, that would be the end of it. Not only would she never talk to him again and ruin the group dynamic officially, but she'd also kick his frickin' ass, and Lindy probably would never talk to her again for beating the shit out of her twin.
Jasmine sat up slowly with a sigh, wincing when her head started pounding again. All this deep thinking was making her concussion seriously hurt.
But one thing she knew was that Delia had been right. and Lindy had been right.
Everything Jasmine had hoped to avoid by hiding the fact that she slept with him was happening now. The crumbling friendship, the awkwardness, the fighting. And Lindy had told her kissing him would make things more complicated.
This was all her fault for keeping so many secrets and for complicating things much more than they had to be. If she had just told him about the mystery girl from the start, none of this would have happened. Maybe she wouldn't have been able to tell him she liked him for another huge chunk of years, but at least they could have moved on from that situation and still have their friendship in tact. She and Logan needed to have a long chat. One where all secrets would be laid out on the table and everything was discussed. It was about time they cleared the air between them.
No more secrets.
Determined, Jasmine stood up and grabbed her jacket off of their coat rack and snatched her keys off the kitchen counter before heading to the door. She yanked it open and then gasped in surprise when she saw who was standing in front of her.
Logan was standing there with his hand poised to knock on the door. His face looked a little red from overexertion, and he was breathing heavily, as if he had just run all the way to the apartment. He let out a long sigh of relief when he saw her.
"Logan…"
"Jasmine, I can explain."
