The Doctor leaned, palms down, on the TARDIS console. Laura found her way back into the console room and sat at the top of the silver staircase. "This place is huge...I almost got lost on the way back...how many swing-sets do you need, Doctor?"

"I'm sorry." The Doctor said, his head slumped down.

The TARDIS made it's usual ominous and enthralling noises.

"It's alright...I mean I'm not judging you. I mean if I had a impossibly large time machine I'd fill it with swing-sets too..."

"No. I mean about being so cruel to you. I've shown you only death and fear. I'm sorry."

"I can't say it's okay. You were very distrustful and mean to me. "

The Doctor turned to face Laura. "I understand-I've traveled alone for far too long. A couple hundred years alone and you sorta lose your touch I'd say...Wow. I really need an alarm to go off every decade or so, so I don't lose track of this sort of thing."

Laura just looked at this silly young man in a bow tie with so much age in his eyes and she could feel the millennia in him. "How old are you Doctor?"

"Oh. Well, that's hard to say. I had a bit of a issue keeping track. Even lied about it. Was having a bit of a mid life crisis. Told everyone I was nine hundred. Don't know what I was thinking..."

"So, older than nine hundred then?"

The doctor grinned. "Yes. Don't I look smashing?"

Laura giggled. "Yes. Yes you do. "

A calmness filled the console room.

" How is Cassandra?"

"She's going to be fine physically. It was a grazing shot but it's still pretty nasty. I used that spray you showed me and put a bandage on. She's sleeping in the closest bedroom now. I think she needed a rest...I'm scared for her."

"Yes. I would be too. I know from experience that that sort of thing doesn't fade from memory very quickly-"

Cassandra slowly made her way into the console room wearing a pair of thick slacks, heavy black boots and a denim jacket with the sleeves rolled up. "I borrowed some clothes from a wardrobe I found. I hope that's okay."

"Of course!" The Doctor said, trying to sound as positive and friendly as possible.

Laura made her way to Cassandra. "How are you feeling?" She stared up at her. She hadn't noticed how tall Cassandra was until this moment. Laura was by no means short, but Cassandra almost towered over her.

"I'm fine." Her eyes said she wasn't.

"Well, that's good." Laura said, not wanting to press her.

"What now, Doctor?" Cassandra said.

"Well, I've set the coordinates for Earth in the early twenty first century. That's Laura's home."

Cassandra looked down at Laura, in her blue dress, and big bright eyes. "You're going home?'

"Well. I don't know-I wanted to-"

Just then the TARDIS shook.

"Does it normally do this Doctor?" Cassandra shouted as alarms began to blare.

"Not normally this loudly. No. " The Doctor said twisting nobs and pushing buttons on the console.

"What's happening Doctor?" Laura asked loudly, holding onto Cassandra to keep herself from not falling over.

The Doctor flung himself to the view screen. "We've hit something! Hang on! We're coming in for a bit of a rough landing!"

Laura, Cassandra and The Doctor tumbled around and found themselves on the floor as the TARDIS materialized at its destination.

"Is everyone alright?" The Doctor said, running his hand through his hair, in that sort of nervous Doctor way.

Laura gently let go of Cassandra. "Yeah. I think so." Laura looked at Cassandra. "Are you alright?"

"Yes." A slight smile came to Cassandra's lips. "Where are we?"

"Let's see..." The Doctor looked at the view screen. "It says here, Earth, United States, 1947. Hmm...We got knocked off course a bit it seems." The Doctor stuck his head out of the TARDIS door and looked around. "Hmm. We're in a desert it seems. Let's see if we can see what we hit."

The Doctor waved the Laura and Cassandra to come outside. He pulled out a flashlight from his left breast pocket and handed it to Laura and then reached into his right breast pocket and pulled out his sonic. The sun was making its descent behind the horizon. The sky was already nearly black.

The Doctor made his way around the TARDIS checking it for damage and as Laura and Cassandra walked a few paces right of the TARDIS and found pieces of flaming debris. "Doctor!" Laura shouted, waving The Doctor over. "We found something!"

"What is it?" He said as he got near to them.

"There's a piece of something we hit, I think." Cassandra said, pointing to the flames in front of them.

"It's a piece of a craft. I'm not quite sure what. It must be some sort of space time ship if it can interfere with the path of the TARDIS during a time jump..."

They made there way further and found more and more small flaming pieces of debris. Soon they came across what looked like a cockpit covered in dirt and damaged, but still intact.

"Oh no!" Laura said heading to open the cockpit. "We have to see if they're alright!"

Then suddenly Laura stopped dead in her tracks and turned to the Doctor. "Wait. Doctor what year is it again?"

"1947."

"1947. Desert. Crashed space ship...Doctor, I know where we are..."

Just then, bright light flashed right into the three's eyes. They huddled closely together.

"STAY WHERE YOU ARE! YOU ARE UNDER ARREST! YOU ARE NOW IN CUSTODY OF THE UNITED STATES AIRFORCE!"
