Gail had two days at the hospital to think about how she could cover for Holly. The cop in her wanted the truth to be out and the wife in her wanted to protect Holly the best way she could.
After leaving the hospital, Gail had to be on the bed rest for some time. Holly insisted she goes to police without Gail because she didn't want to abuse the fact they were marred and she didn't want anyone to think she has some protection. Gail didn't agree with hat. She wanted to protect her wife and family. When they got to the station they realized there was nothing to talk about. All the people involved got their silent pact to pretend nothing happened. One of the officers said he shot the cave man when he found him trying to kill Holly and it was the official story they all stuck to. Gail and Holly were surprised by it. Gail went to Steve's office and confronted him.
''What the hell is that?''
''I had nothing to do with it. It was their idea.''
''Holly will not have it.''
''Maybe, but she will have to if she wants to see you and be with the baby. I doubt she will give that up just for the sake of the truth.''
''I don't know… But I don't like it… I hate it…''
Gail got out the room and found Holly in the corridor…
''We are going home nerd…''

Holly didn't want to argue and took Gail home. During the ride she wanted to ask about what happened in the office with Steve, but she didn't. She knew better. Gail will tell her eventually…
''What do you want for lunch?''
''Hm… I think we could order in Italian and have some ice cream after…''

Gail kissed her wife's cheek and continued looking at distance. She was thinking about what Steve said. Is it worth it to tell what really happened and be without Holly again or should they tell what really happened? She didn't want to be without her wife. She needed Holly to be there and to be there to see their child grow. When they arrived home, Gail went to lie down and Holly took care of the food order. She went to take a shower and bring Gail something to change into. Gail's bump started to need some more space, so Gail avoided being in tight things at home. She loved being in her dad's old sweats and Holly's old shirt. Gail was napping and Holly was thinking about previous few days and all that happened. She was seated in a comfortable chair watching Gail like hawk. She wanted to make sure she had all she needed and she was ok. The bell rung and Holly went to pick up the food. Dinner was quiet. Holly knew Gail was hiding something.
''Will you tell me what you and Steve talked about?''
''Holly, it's nothing…''
''That is a lie Gail…''
''Fine, someone confessed to the murder…''
''My murder?''
''Yes, Caveman's murder…''
''What does that…''
''You are clear…''
''NO! Not like that…''
''Holly, if you tell the truth… He is done with his career, I'm done and let's not start you on how much I don't want to be a single mother…''
''But, it's wrong…''
''It's not… Not in this case. He saved us Holly…''
''What will happen to him?''
''I'll get him back to work on Monday and he might get some medal or something…that's it…''
''Gail, I don't like it…''
''Me neither, but I want our daughter to have two mothers at home, not one in jail…''
Holly didn't want to fight Gail on this. She knew better than to get involved into her wife's job and way of reasoning. They spent few more days at home in their bubble and Monday came as the day they would have to go back to work. Gail's bump became more visible and bigger. She had to get new uniform and that made her nervous. She felt a bit fat. Holly, on the other hand didn't want to face gossip at work. She spent most of the time in the autopsy room working on few citizens that died that week. She was very efficient. She worked on five bodies that day and couldn't wait for Gail to pick her up. Around five, Gail was in the morgue and Holly was still working on the case.
''Hey, Nerd… Ready to go home?''
''Hey Babe… Go to my office... Let me clean this up and change…''
Gail went to Holly's office and waited for her there. She had time to look around after very long time. Walls were full of Holly's diplomas and certificates. Gail was secretly proud of Holly and her achievements. She loved to tease her and call her nerd, but Holly was her nerd. On one of the shelves she found a photograph she hasn't seen in a long time. It was from the time when they started dating. Her hair was shorter and she was still in her a street cop. She took Holly for lunch at the park and it was so funny, since they were both in their uniforms. Holly was in her dark blue scrubs and white lab coat. Her hair was in a ponytail and they asked some random girl in the park to take picture of them. Gail was pretty sure it was their first picture as a couple. Holly found her looking at the picture with a smile on her face.
''Hey, are you ready?''
''Yes, sure… let's go…''
They got into the car and Gail was rubbing the bump.
''Did you ever think we would be back together and happy again?''
''I wanted to believe we will work things out…''

''I missed you so much Gail, but I never dared to come back. Beside so many good memories, we had many bad ones…''

Holly started tickling her and they ended up chasing each other around the room.
''Get a grip Stewart. We are at your work. We should not behave like that...''

Gail was getting into her twenty-fifth week of pregnancy. She was getting very excited and nervous about it all. Baby was doing good, she was doing good and Holly was very attentive. She had a lot of books by her bedside, she was going with Gail to prenatal yoga and she was working on getting Gail to stop working that much. She was trying to get her to cut her hours and spend more time relaxing. In their home, Gail was the worst pregnant lady. She would get Holly to do a lot of things for her, but outside she was as she always was. She was running the city with a tight fist and her baby bump was very cute. She had bigger uniform and she even started working on idea for changing uniforms. She insisted that there should be maternity line within the service. Chloe was being her usual pain in the neck and especially now when she was pregnant. Dove was often coming to Gail's office to ask her to let Chloe go home because she is cranky, sleepy… not in the mood and that didn't fly with Gail. She would let him finish his speech and send him out of her office. She didn't let the baby affect her work. One afternoon she was asked into the field. They found a body of a young man with love letter in his mouth. That was the case she worked with Sam, before Holly came. When she heard the killer was back, she wanted in. She had to be there. She got into her car and got to the crime scene. Holly was in the grass working on the body so she didn't see her coming. When she finished her preliminary exam she told leading detectives her findings. She saw Gail standing in the corner. As she approached her, she noticed that Gail had the letter in her hands and she was crying.

And now Gail was sobbing…

She touched Gail's belly and the baby moved…
''Hey, it's your mommy… How are you my little one? I can't wait to have you in my arms love… I want to meet you so much…''
She rubbed Gail's stomach and Gail was looking around.

Holly started to lean in and Gail had that terrified chipmunk face again….

Holly kissed her and Gail kissed back…

Holly started walking towards her car. She was swaying her hips and playing with her hair. She was teasing her poor wife and Gail was on the verge of not even going home but doing it there… and Gail was trying to control her desire and amount of dirty things she would love being done to her…
''Stewart, you are lucky I love you. One day I will kill you with my bare hands…''
She got into her car and drove away… In ten minutes she will be at home and Holly… She better watch out.
