Hiiii Guys!
First of all, I just want to say how sorry I am for not updating in so long. I am sooooooooooooo sorry, but I'm going to get back to the Story, and update it frequently. Thank you so much for the comments, they're the reason I'm coming back to write again.
Once again, soooo sorry, it will be better this time.
Chapter 4: Telling the moms.
Krystal P.O.V.
I stared at my friends in shock. If we needed any more proof to tell us our moms were mermaids, this was it. The three bronze tails moving slightly up and down. Millions of questions flashed in my head, the main one being "How could they keep this from us?" I made a move forward, but was stopped by Michelle, shaking her head no as she glanced towards the tails. At first I didn't understand, but a while after I heard voices, voices that belonged to our mothers. The three of us listened closely as our mothers talked, trying to hear what they were talking about.
"I mean they are going to turn seventeen soon, they should know! Besides I hate lying to Lily" the voice was Aunt Cleo's, who was the mermaid on the left side. Her voice was slightly upset, and the last part was full of guilt. I glanced at Lily, who looked like she wanted to cry, Lily and Aunt Cleo were very close.
"What good would that do Cleo?" the voice was coming from the mermaid in the middle, Aunt Emma, who was trying to keep calm, even though the temperature in the water seemed to have dropped a few degrees. However, the three moms didn't seem to notice or care.
"They would know the truth, they deserve to know! They are our daughters! Sooner or later they will find out. They're not stupid you know. " My mom was the one talking now, she was the mermaid on the right. Suddenly the water began to get warmer and warmer, making it almost unbearable.
"Rikki! Stop it! Aunt Cleo yelped.
"Sorry Cleo" the water stopped getting warmer, but it was still hot, making us all wince slightly underwater, but not too much as we didn't want to be noticed just yet. Suddenly the water cooled down, returning to its once perfect state.
"Is that better?" Aunt Emma asked.
"Yes, it's perfect. Thanks Emma" this time it was Aunt Cleo who spoke.
"Okay back to the point. Emma we should tell them, it's better if they find out through us and not by themselves
"Rikki do you really think that's the best idea? What if after they find out about us they try to become mermaids? Do we really want this for them?"
"So your idea is to not tell them, hide it forever and risk the chance of them becoming mermaids accidentally? I thought you were supposed to be the smart one Emma!"
After that comment made by my mother all hell broke loose. I couldn't keep track of who said what anymore, so I decided that it was time for us to head to the surface and try to calm our mothers down. I looked at my friends and the three of us nodded as we swam up. The moms didn't notice us when we got out of the water and after a few seconds I decided enough was enough.
"HEY! STOP YELLING" I shouted, effectively shutting them up and making the moms turn around slowly with shocked expressions in their faces. The three moms said their respective daughters name at the same time, neither one of them knowing what else to say. They didn't seem to notice their daughter's tails.
"Guys we can explain" Aunt Cleo started, but trailed off, looking at my mom and Aunt Emma, asking for support. I looked at my friends, the three of were thinking the same thing, "How did they not notice the tail."
"We would have told you sooner, but we didn't want the same thing happening to the three of you. We didn't want to risk the chance of you guys trying to become mermaids purposely, we didn't want the same for you guys." Aunt Emma explained. Seriously? – I thought - Did I imagine my tail? I glanced down and noticed my friends doing the same. Yep we still had tails. Looking up again I glanced at my mom, the only one who hadn't said anything. She was starting at the three us, me and my friends, noticing our tails and matching tops. My mother shocked expression was quickly replaced with a smirk as she opened her moth and said
"I think it's a bit late for that Emma, don't you think?
"What are you talking...?" Aunt Emma started, but stopped talking finally noticing our tails. Her eyes widened and she went slightly pale. Aunt Cleo was no better, she was looking at Lily with a mixture of shock, excitement and relief.
"I think the real question is, how did this happen?" my mother said, as she came over to me and hugged me. Once she had let go she took a closer look at me and the tail. The only difference between the two tails was the color.
"Well? Are you three going to tell us how and when did this happen?" Aunt Emma asked. I sighed and began telling the three moms about yesterday. The full moon project, how I had decided to go to mako. The strange feeling that dragged us all to the cave leading us to the "moon pool" as the moms called it. How we jumped in to swim away as the moon passed over the top of the volcano and the bubbles started floating up and stopped after the moon completely passed over the volcano. Finally I told them about getting home after that strange Mako trip.
"The next morning I got a glass of water and accidentally splashed myself. Then ten seconds later I was on the floor with a tail. As soon as I returned to normal, I got on the Zodiac and went to Michelle's. I found her by the pool, with a tail. After dragging her back inside the house, transforming for a second time, then changing back, the two of decided to test our "This happened on Mako Island theory" by going to Lily's. Once there we splashed her, then splashed ourselves. After realizing that the three of us were, in fact, mermaids we put two and two together, which lead us to realize the three of you were also mermaids. Then we decided to go for a swim and the rest you know." I finished my story, looking at the moms as they took in all the new information. They were quiet, too quiet. I was starting to get anxious as I waited for them to say something. My friends were no better, their faces mirrored mine. A mix between anxiety, nervousness and fear. Finally after what seemed like forever, which could have only been one minute, my mom broke into a grin.
"Well there's nothing anyone can do about it now. The only thing we can do is teach them everything we know." My mom said. Aunt Cleo moved towards Lily and wrapped in a hug that allowed both of them to let go of the tears they had been holding as they held each other. Michelle opened her mouth as a single tear rolled down her cheeks.
"Mom I'm so sorry. I should have told you about the project, about everything. I just..." The rest of her sentence was cut short as Aunt Emma hugged her daughter tightly, whispering something to her the rest of us couldn't hear. I didn't understand the reason behind all the crying, but there was no way I was going to let it get to me.
"Can we cut it with the sob fest please?" I asked with only earned a laugh from everyone. I chose to ignore the fact that I also had tears in my eyes, along with my mother. It was really unusual for us to cry.
"So, what now?" Lily asked.
"Now we teach you everything we know and trust me when I say this, this will be really fun." My mom said with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "The first thing you guys should know, powers!"
Really Rikki? Powers that's the first thing? How about the rules? The responsibility that comes with the tail?
"Emma stop taking the fun out of it. We can tell them about all of that later, which reminds me, we should call the guys, they should know about this as well" The rest of us agreed with my mother as she pulled herself out of the moon pool and started steam drying herself? Then I remembered my mom could heat things up, so this must be her power. Soon her legs returned and she pulled out her cellphone from her pocket and dialed my dad's phone. A few seconds later he answered "Hey Zane! Listen I need you to get Ash and Lewis and come to Mako. We have something that we need to talk about. Yes everything's fine. No I'm not hurt. Yes I'm sure. Just get over here. I love you too." Mother ended the call, smiling might I add, put her phone on top of one of the rocks and got inside the water again. Ten seconds later her tail appeared. "And now we wait"
"I think that we should teach you about the powers after the guys get here and we explain everything to them" Aunt Cleo said and we all nodded in agreement.
After about twenty minutes of small talk about how strange, yet amazing the tail felt we heard a thumps followed by yelps. The yelp turned out to be voices and I recognized them immediately, Uncle Ash, Uncle Lewis and my father, Zane. My heart skipped a couple of beats. In the twenty minutes we waited for the dads it never once occurred to me what they would think or how they would take the news. Now that they were so close to finding out, part of me wanted to bolt out of there, but I knew I wasn't going to be able to. Instead, I did the next best thing, moved closer to my two best friends and took their hands with my own. We took deep breaths until the voices got closer and we were able to understand what they were saying.
"Really, I think everything is fine. Rikki said it was" my dad said.
"Oh yes, because that's something we can all believe. If everything is fine why are at Mako?" Uncle Lewis said to my dad, the usual sarcasm in his voice.
"Maybe it's something mermaid related" Uncle Ash said, although you could hear the nervousness in his voice.
"If its mermaid related we go to the café! Mako is only for emergencies! Am I the only one who thinks something is off?" Uncle Lewis replied, getting closer every second. They were practically at the moon pool, just two more steps and they would see why they had been called.
"No. Something is off, but we can ask them now. We're here already" Dad replied. The mothers looked at their respective daughters and asked a silent question with their eyes, "Are you ready." I nodded, but I admit I was scared, not only for the secret, but Dad told me I couldn't use the Zodiac until I was seventeen. Of course I never mentioned this to my friends when I used it and I never got caught. Now I was going to admit to using the Zodiac when I wasn't supposed to. Even worse admit going to Mako, at night, on a full moon, on the Zodiac. Yep, dad was going to be mad. My dad is an amazing father. He's fun and not super strict, but I had three rules, and I broke them all in one night. Three rules that my mother didn't know about, and now she would. To top everything off, breaking the ruled turned the three of us into mermaids. I could tell my friends were thinking the same thing, telling the moms was easy, but the dads, not so much. My dad was the first one to reach the moon pool, laughing and shaking his head like he always does whenever Uncle Lewis says somethin completely ridiculous. When he saw the six of us at the moon pool he looked confused, then he realized that the six of us were mermaids and the smile died from his face, a blank look in his face. I felt my heart sink to the bottom of my stomach and my eyes started to sting a little. Uncle Ash walked in after, also laughing but one look at the six mermaids in front of him left him in the same state as my dad. I heard Michelle whimper next to me and I squeezed her hand. Uncle Lewis was the last one to walk in, knowing something was wrong the moment he heard his two friends stop laughing.
"Guys what's going on?" he asked the two of them, following their line of sight when neither answered. His eyes widened like plates when he saw the six of us, the color draining from his face. He opened his mouth and then closed it again, his eyes darting to all six of us rapidly as he was trying to think of something to say. He started to tumble a little, growing paler and paler every passing second, his eyes dancing frantically between the six of us. His eyes focused on Lily, the little color left on his face left him as he finally whispered Lily's name in a low shaky voice before passing out.
