Chapter 9 – Work, Clean, Repeat

Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months. The citizens of Haven worked hard daily to get all of the things they wanted done accomplished. All of the girls were true to their word when they stated that they would make sure that each of the teams had what and who they needed. They even went with the teams from time to time to supervise so that supplies that ran dry were quickly replaced.

Within the first month, most of the bridge that spanned across Lake Pontchartrain was magically worked to surround the "City in the Sky" as they deemed it, to head into a gentle decline down to the surface. They went with a gentle downslope so that the vehicles had an easier time with going up and down. The platform at the bottom was set up with efficiency and detail to safety. This would house most of the trucks and busses for transport and supply runs. The fences and portcullises were quickly erected and such to keep out the undead.

Another few months, and the earth was worked up to a reasonable level under the city. They had a couple more days of work to go before they were done with that. The gods were always coming around to congratulate the group on their success. Hermes was a constant as he worked with Luna to find more pockets of survivors or those that were wondering around always fighting to stay alive.

Albus took a team of fifty to go and assist the magical beings in Boston set up a safer and more organized haven of their own. He informed Harry that he and his team would be gone for at least six months. They wanted to make sure that each area had their own safe spots for the living to grow and expand. Harry was thrilled that the older wizard wanted to do so much to help get everyone set up and kept safe. Albus may be a meddlesome old fool at times, but his heart always was in the right spot when it came to helping everyone. It was a good idea to go to different areas of the world and help set up safe havens so that people could learn to live and fight back against the undead. Albus would go to Boston first and then a few surrounding areas of that city to set up areas for people.

When you had a phoenix, you could communicate easier with other people in other locations. Harry and Albus made sure to remind the other that they could communicate and rush to the aid of the other should they need it. Harry and company were busy working hard to finish their own defenses. In between building defenses, they would go for a couple of hours and eradicate the undead from the streets. Colin's idea of an electrified area was quickly set up and put into effect. It was a raving success from the onset. The undead were destroyed by the dozens at a time rather than one at a time when fighting hand to hand.

Another party was set up to remove earth from under the Mississippi River to replace the land that was taken when the Haven moved into the sky. From there, they made sure that every place in the general area was set up with wards against the undead. They wanted to keep the zombies from encroaching on their areas as much as possible. Once this project was done, the cattle, sheep, and goats were placed in the warded area.

It wasn't long before Ginny and her teams were airborne again to get down to the surface and work on wiping out the undead like they usually did. Fire spells rained down from the air as they wiped out zombie after zombie. Harry and his party did their normal slash and stab. Marge sighed as she sent out new clothes for both Harry and Seamus. Some things would never change with the two of them.

The night of the full moon was an event. Fenrir and Remus took their group to a safe area to transform. Once they did, the group went out and massacred the zombies. Harry had a charm set up to see how effective the group was by the body count. Suffice to say that the next morning showed the counter to be in the thousands. Apparently werewolves could keep their minds enough with training to make the best fighting force possible.

"I think that we need to move to each of the fifty states and set up a safe haven," suggested Harry at the next meeting. "Albus is working hard to get the one in Massachusetts done. His latest message stated that they were just about done. My thought is that we can set up a safe have and then figure out how to post that they are there for those that are looking for a safe place to go."

"We can set up booklets that let them know what we did here so that they can maybe follow along and grow as well," suggested Hermione. "We have some of the younger students that are looking for something to do. We can write something up and get it copied. That way we can send one to each area. It would be a benefit to all of the people who find a safe place to live and work."

"But how do we let them know where the haven is?" asked Andromeda. "We still need to let them know where it is they need to go. I know that it can be done, I just can't think of anything right off the top of my head at the moment. Does anyone have any ideas?"

"Each state has a capital," said Rebecca. "We can have each safe haven set up in the capital of each state. From there, we use the capital building of each state to start the haven and work outward from there. With you having magic, you can use it like you did here before we lifted into the sky. We can just have it set up for all people that are still alive and such. It doesn't need to be as large as this one for now. From there, the leaders of each area can set up the major cities around their state."

"That's a brilliant idea," proclaimed Percy. "To get them to know where to go, we can just have one of the American locals that are familiar with ham radios and computers and such send out messages and bulletins to all that can hear on a radio. We magical people can place something in the sky amongst the clouds that let those that are on the ground know to head towards the capital buildings in each state. I would love to head up this and get to work. We can start with the states around us and move out from there. We can even have one here in Louisiana. Baton Rouge isn't that far from here."

"Chose your team wisely," informed Harry. "With Albus already out doing that in the north, we don't want to thin our own forces out too badly. However, I think we can spare fifty people to go out and start building the havens. Make sure you come home after each set up. We want to be able to send others out and so forth. However, you will be team leader for this project. When Albus returns, he can rest up and send another team out from there."

"I'm good with geography," piped up Tammy. She was a muggle that was a teacher before the apocalypse. "I can help you with where to go and so forth. I'm familiar with the areas as I did lots of traveling when I was younger. I can also provide maps and such for you. May I be on the team? I know I don't have magic, but I can work just like the next person."

"Well," said Harry with a smile. "All teams will be made up of a few different types of being. So of course you would be welcome. All assistance doesn't have to be magical. Knowledge is just as important as what spell to cast. You can work with Percy and be his assistant. That way, he knows where you are all going and so forth. I'm sure that you can get coordinates and such for the capital cities of each state in this country. I'm not that concerned about Alaska and Hawaii, but we will get to them eventually."

"We might want to wait for a couple of weeks before we start," said Dan Granger coming in. "We just got word that another hurricane is headed this way. This will be the first one where we are up in the sky like this. Hermes and Zeus stated we would be alright, but we still need to get the safety precautions set up. With your children due in two months, we need them safe as well. Hermione and Draco are already set up together. We have to start getting our buildings set up and ready."

Harry and company gave a sigh and got to work. They had a larger area to cover, but thankfully most of the buildings still had their protective coverings already in place. With so many buildings empty, they just left them boarded up from the last storm. It made for an easier time to recognize what buildings had people living in them and which didn't.

It wasn't long before the storm was upon them. Just like the last time, everyone that was anyone stayed in the safety of their homes. Gwen and Tiffany were living with Seamus and Harry in the house that Percy and the women of Haven set up for them. So Harry and company didn't have to worry about the women being away and worrying about them and their unborn babies.

Days later, the storm blew over and the citizens of the area went about the normal clean up duties. While certain members did that, others went about their normal jobs. Percy and Tammy set out with their group to set up the first southern haven away from New Orleans. Harry and company sent out teams to start collecting cattle and such from the outlying areas to send to the haven to help get them started and so forth. From there, Harry and Seamus went below to start clearing out the few zombies in the area that survived the storm.

In the upcoming weeks and months, a flurry of activity happened in the Haven. Albus and his group made it home only to turn around and head to Jackson Mississippi to set up another haven. Albus personally set the message in the clouds to tell those that were living where they needed to go. From there, he went to Birmingham Alabama and did the same thing. They were gone for close to two months.

Back in Potter Haven, there was new excitement in the air. Gwen and Tiffany went into labor. Gwen started in the morning, and by midafternoon, Tiffany joined her in the hospital also ready to give birth. Harry and Seamus were out wiping out the undead when Dobby and Winky popped in and literally took both men to the hospital. Petunia and Poppy quickly sent both men to shower before they allowed them to be with the women.

What followed was amusing to many who wanted to be brave enough to tell the tale. Bella, Severus, Luna, Hermione, Draco, Ginny, Lucius, and Dean were sought out and sent for. They arrived and started pacing with the two fathers. Poppy and Petunia didn't want them in the room as the labor of Gwen was having issues. Harry was worried about the young woman, but Poppy and her group were the best at what they did. They would move heaven and earth to save both child and woman.

Hours later, the cry of an infant filled the room. Petunia came in a moment later and handed Harry his son. Severus and Hermione quickly joined Harry in crying over the child. He was beautiful with the light colored hair of his mother with Harry's facial features. When the child looked at them, they all gave a cry of delight as they noticed that Alexander would have the trademark green eyes of Harry and his mother.

Petunia came in a few moments later and handed Seamus his daughter. Bellatrix and Dean quickly started to count fingers and toes and have a whispered conversation as to what kind of toys to buy for her. Everyone was happy that the first two babies were healthy and beautiful. A scream came up and everyone looked at one another as the scream was from Gwen. Harry would recognize her voice from anywhere. He handed Alexander to Severus and quickly entered the delivery room. Poppy was covered in blood that was pouring from Gwen at a rapid pace.

"She is hemorrhaging," stated Petunia. "We are working hard to ensure that she lives, but the baby is still caught and could drown if we don't work quickly. It may come to you having to choose between the two. We are doing our best, but even with magic, we are having troubles. Tell Severus we need his help."

Harry quickly turned and headed out. Hermione was holding Alex. He quickly told everyone what was going on and Severus rushed inside the delivery room to help with potions and such. Everyone was quietly waiting to hear what was going on. It wasn't long before a different healer brought out Francis for everyone to hold and coo over. Lucius and Ginny were delighted to be able to hold their godson. While they were doing that, Harry was pacing with Seamus about the condition of Gwen. They knew that the young woman was having a hard time. Petunia came out to state that the baby was stuck and that they would have to work and do a cesarean to get the baby out.

An hour later, a very tired and grim Petunia came out holding not one but two children. She handed the girl to Harry while she handed another boy baby to Seamus. Severus and Poppy came out and were standing with Harry.

"Gwen didn't make it," she whispered sadly to everyone. "She lost too much blood. Every time we fixed one problem, another appeared. She was wonderful. She held on until the very end. The reason we didn't know about the little one is because he was behind the other two. You will need a name for him and godparents."

"Michael Harrison Potter," stated Harry suddenly. "He can be named after Michael the Archangel. Dudley and Susan can be godparents to him. We need to expand the nursery. We want all five children to be comfortable. We will also need clothes for him. He seems to be slightly smaller than the other two. I'm sure that Aunt Marge will be over the moon to hear another request for clothing from the Potter family."

"I think this time she will be delighted to give it," said a laughing Dudley as he took his godson from Seamus. "Thank you for asking me to be godfather. I was coming here to tell Poppy that she isn't done for the day. Susan and Hannah have been slightly injured in a fight with the zombies. Neither was bitten or scratched, but a wall fell on them. Both are unsteady on their feet. The Healer that was with the team didn't fair quite as well. She was bitten. We already have her in quarantine and under watch. It won't be long before we have to decide how we want to handle him."

"Damn," hissed Harry and Poppy in sync. Poppy sighed before she had Petunia handle this one. "Get a bag of potions and go with Harry. I have to finish up here with all of this. You know the standard spells. Harry has enough skill to know what is needed as well if you aren't sure. Just make sure that the girls are healed up and send them here if they don't look like they can stand. If they can manage, send them home to get rest. Once you deal with the Healer, send his body to be burned. We did agree that all undead are to be burned to ensure we don't have carrion or disease."

"We will handle it," assured Harry handing his daughter to Hermione. "We want to make sure that everything goes well. Where are they Dudley?"

"They are in the city of Metairie," answered Dudley. "We found another store that has food and clothes and we were loading the truck when the wall fell. Apparently we were sensed or smelled by the zombies as they knocked the wall down. The zombie that did it was like a giant or something. He was WAY taller than we are. Hagrid and he got into a fight. Hagrid was still fighting him when I had Dot bring me here."

"A Bombarda spell to the head would take care of him," hissed Harry in annoyance. "I don't know why Hagrid has to think it better to wrestle instead of using a wand. Now I have two injured witches and one bitten healer. This is seriously getting out of hand. Dot, please bring us back to where they are. We want to get all of this taken care of."

Everyone held hands as the elf popped them away to the fight. When they got there, Hagrid was still fighting with the zombie. Harry and Petunia quickly went to Susan and Hannah and quickly patched them up.

"The both of you are to go straight home and get some rest," commanded Harry. "Use your portkeys and go home. Make sure that you take a potion to help you sleep. If you have any further trouble, go right to Poppy. We will send someone out to check on you later. We have some unpleasant business to attend here at the moment. I will see you soon."

Both girls nodded and with a quick word, they disappeared. Harry turned to the rest of the scene. He went to the zombie and examined it. With a quick flick of his wand, he blasted the head off of it. Hagrid was looking at Harry with shock in his eyes.

"You know better than that Hagrid," snapped Harry to the astonishment of the others. "You should have used your wand and been done with it. We have now lost a healer. Had you just blasted it, you wouldn't have had half of your team hurt. Last but not least, I am pissed that I had to leave my newborn children to come and deal with this nonsense. You should be ashamed of yourself Rubeus Hagrid. How in the hell do you think that we can just let you not follow the rules? This zombie could have done more damage had it gotten away. We TOLD YOU that they were mutating."

"Harry, please let me handle this," requested Arthur. "You go back to your children. I will have a word with Hagrid and take care of the Healer. Please take a deep breath and calm down before you return to the joy that being a new parent entails. Congratulations on the twins. I'm sure that you have helped create two beautiful children."

"Three," whispered Harry taking a deep breath. "There was a third child behind the other two. I have two boys and one girl. Tiffany gave birth also. All five children have been born. Gwen didn't make it. She died in childbirth. Please make sure that Hagrid understands that while I am not mad, I am mad. I know that makes little sense, but he needs to understand that we can't afford to lose anyone. This isn't Hogwarts and these aren't trolls."

"I'll handle it," insisted Arthur. "Go and be with your children. Everything here will be handled. You have my word on that. This is a serious situation and I will handle it. You have more important things to worry about now. Shoo! I have this covered."

With a small pop, Harry and Petunia went back to the hospital and sat with everyone while the children were fed. Harry had his head in his hands and was near tears. Too many emotions were going through his head. Dudley explained to everyone what happened. Severus and Lucius headed out to assist Arthur as both knew that Hagrid could be as stubborn as the next person. Harry was having a hard enough time as it was without having people like Hagrid cause trouble. While Hagrid didn't do it on purpose, his ideas weren't quite like everyone else's.

"I had a thought while I was chewing out Hagrid," mentioned Harry to Severus and Bellatrix the next day. "We already have the centaurs and such going out and fighting zombies. What if we get a team of trolls together to go and fight the undead? They can be worked with. Albus is skilled in talking with them about it. It would give us another way of combating the undead. While we are making a nice clearance of them, we could get more done with more species fighting. What do you think?"

"You may be on to something," remarked Severus thoughtfully. "We could get trolls, giants, and any other assortment of magical creatures to join our forces. We could also get the merpeople to come live in the river and help keep the undead from coming up onto land there. It wouldn't be that difficult to get different teams together. Griphook told me that the goblins in the United Kingdom are getting more area cleared. I see no reason why we can't do the same thing here."

"We can take our time and get things done," assured Bellatrix. "We are no longer in danger thanks to being in the air. We have time to work out all kinks. I agree with Severus. We can send envoys to the different species and get more teams built and over here to help us. We can always pass this information on to others as well. We aren't the only magical community after all. They will want to know what we are planning and thinking so that they can incorporate it into their own plans. We have the highest success rate out of all of the havens."

"We can pass this information on to Millie and Hermione and let them run with it," stated Harry with a grin. "This will keep us free to be able to keep doing what we are doing. Minerva and Rolanda both went on haven missions in Texas and Arkansas. Percy and his team have moved to Florida to take care of that state. Albus sent word that they are done in Alabama and has moved to work going up the Eastern states of this country. Apparently getting the buildings set up and such are easier than we thought as they are moving quite rapidly."

"According to reports, they are only doing the capital building itself for now," answered Severus. "They are warding the building and then stocking it by having the elves go to the nearest stores to move all food and clothing to it. It has been agreed by the teams that they will just ward the building first and then go back when they are done to take care of the surrounding areas. This way the people in that area have a place to start."

"Each place is also being set up with weapons and such," said Bellatrix. "We were told that they are being given everything that they need to get started. We can help more when we have all of the safety places set up. We can even go to some of the larger cities and set up places when we are done. We have Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Alexandria, Monroe, and Shreveport done here in Louisiana. We also hit Lake Charles yesterday while you were at the hospital. Oh and before I forget, I also had words with Hagrid. I told him that if we had any more trouble with him not doing the right thing that we would report him to Dumbledore."

"That ought to keep him in line," said Harry with a snicker. "From what Arthur told me, Hagrid cried for over an hour after I chewed him out. Out of everyone, he respects me and Albus the most. I hope he remembers that we have to be careful. This isn't like it was in the old days. His actions could have serious consequences. It cost us a healer yesterday and almost cost us Susan and Hannah. Hagrid is just lucky that Amelia has been busy. I would have hated for him to get the sharp end of her tongue. You know how brutal she can be."

"That's especially so when she is defending Susan," agreed Bellatrix. "Things should start quieting down here soon. We have made significant headway in pushing out the undead from our area. Our success rate will just keep going. We know we are going to lose people from time to time, but thankfully, we are still in the low numbers of those we have lost. Mostly it was due to surprise than carelessness. Yesterday was not something we want to harp on for long. We will move on like we always have."

With a smile and a nod, Harry and his party went back to work. They would work for hours at a time to wipe out the swarms that replaced the ones that was there the day before. It made for an interesting concept. In the year they had worked in the area, they had wiped out hundreds of thousands of undead. The human population was expansive, but everyone knew that an end would eventually come into play.

"Harry, we have a large contingent of people that just arrived outside of the gates," called out the patronus that Draco sent. "There are more of them than we have room for. I don't know what we are going to do with all of them. There are close to a hundred people here. I need help."

Grabbing Hermione, Severus, and Amelia, Harry popped the group to Draco's location. It was just as he said. People were just standing there. In some cases, they were trying to stay awake as exhaustion was evident on their faces. Harry took a tally in his mind and he turned to Hermione.

"Where can we put this many people for the quarantine limit?" he asked her. "Do we have a building large enough to house them all without compromising the Haven? We can't let them stay out. Some of them are passed the point of exhaustion. What can we do for them?"

"We can house them on the Twin Span," she stated pointing to the bridge. "We have both ends closed off so that nothing can get in without magical aid. We can have tents set up. The elves brought over many of them when we first came in case we needed them. We can set up fifty tents on that bridge comfortably. If they want to stay together, we can let them. I think it would be safer for everyone if they split in half and go on each side, but that's not my call to make."

"I think we should split them up and let them stay on each side," inputted Draco. "This way, if one does turn for whatever reason, the whole lot of them won't be in danger. We can have one witch and wizard stay with them while they are in quarantine. This way, we can eliminate any who turn. They said that some of their group was picked up just yesterday. We can have a couple of the healers check them out and fix up any natural damage. We can have THOSE quarantined in the jail as there is only a handful of them."

"I can get Aunt Marge to get a care package ready for fifty people and have the elves bring it with the tents to the bridge," called out Hermione before popping away. Harry and Severus grinned at this before turning to the newcomers.

"My name is Harry Potter," he called out. "We welcome you to Potter Haven. We are going to bring you to the bridge so that you can get rest. We have a policy that all newcomers are to stay in quarantine for at least a week so that we can insure that no undead infiltrate our safe haven. Food and clothes will be provided as we have an abundance of it for everyone. Your medical needs will be seen to. We will take care of you until you are able to do it yourself."

"Once your quarantine time ends, we will bring you topside and let you integrate yourselves into the community," added Severus. "Each person will be given a handbook that will outline what we do, who is in charge, what types of aid we give, what types of jobs we have for everyone and so forth. If you have a special skill that can help out, we will set you up with a small team to help you. If you are unwilling to work with us, then we will make accommodations for you elsewhere."

"We will NOT tolerate people trying to take over and use what we worked so hard for," stated Bellatrix. "We are not strict people, but there are rules that you will adhere to. We have made this the safest spot in the United States. We intend to keep it that way. If you feel you are above working with us, then say so right now. We can always send you to Baton Rouge or somewhere else. There is a group of people that work hard day in and day out to keep us alive and well. You will not go unfed or unclothed, but you will be asked to help us keep everyone safe and alive."

"Ultimately, I am in charge of everything," admitted Harry. "My life partner and I work just as hard as everyone else when it comes to going out and either rescuing people such as you, or killing zombies. We do have fun during it all. We are known to play pranks, have parties, or just take days off and be lazy. The more you work with us, the more you will understand that we are good people that take care of those who need it. Does anyone have any questions?"

"Will we be able to learn how to kill the undead?" asked a young man that was about the same age as Harry. "I want to be able to get revenge on the zombies for the loss of my family. I want to be able to be a fighter for the group."

"Oh I'm sure we can help you there," said Harry. "General Bellatrix and Griphook are the ones that will teach you how to use a sword, shoot a gun, and other forms of combat. We have a team of people that make swords, bows, bullets, and many other weapons we use to fight. We have magic users that know how to cast spells to stop the zombies. We have goblins, dragons, centaurs, and other non-human allies that work with us. We do not tolerate bigotry or prejudice here. Men, women, magic user, non-magic user, or non-human all work together here in harmony. It's the reason we are so successful here."

"You have real dragons here?" asked a woman in her middle years. "You have real fire breathing dragons here?"

"Yep," said Harry pointing to the sky where Codex was flying overhead. "If you look to your left, you will see a few of our centaur patrols. They are highly skilled with a bow and arrow. If you want to learn archery, they will be the ones you go to. General Bane is harsh in his lessons, but his rewards are great when you learn what he has to teach."

"This is amazing," a young man stated before wrapping his arms tighter around the baby in his arms. "I can't wait to become a part of this community. It's like all of our childhood stories have come to life. Is there anyone in the community that can help me take care of this baby? His mother died in a zombie attack about a week ago and I don't really have the skills needed."

"Seamus and I have five of our own that is only two days old," said Harry with a smile. "The baby in your arms will be taken care of. There are plenty of women here that would love to coo over and care for the little one. In fact I see Bellatrix chomping at the bit to take the child from you and cuddle it."

"Careful Potter," warned Bellatrix before taking the child. "I won't be afraid to hex you for your cheek. Just because you are the leader and the most powerful of us here doesn't mean I won't make you sorry. Now get home to your kids. You are taking the day off. Severus and I can take it from here. Hermione is already on the bridge and has most of the tents and such set up. Shoo! We will take care of our guests."

With a look that told the newcomers that he was right, he turned on the spot and apparated out to the amazement of the group. With baby in arm, Bellatrix got everyone ready to head out to the bridge. Vernon grinned at the witch as she had the people get on the bus. With a smile, the Dursley patriarch started the bus and moved the newcomers to their new home for the next week.

AUTHOR'S NOTE – This is a good place to stop. I wanted to bring in some fresh blood. This story is going to start winding down. I knew from the start that it wouldn't be a long one. Thanks for reading and thanks for the support.
