Scars
I rushed the end cause I had a lot of trouble writing this... hope you enjoy it at least.
She runs her fingers down his chest her fingers occasionally snagging on a scar or two "Ya've got a lot o' scars, Kenway."
He chuckles and she can feel the rumble throughout her whole body "Yea I do, Mary. Don't we all though?" he hums contentedly and closes his eyes.
"We do indeed, Edward. We do indeed. Some more 'en others, are most of yers honest or are they from a life of crime? Don' leave it a mystery man!" she swats his chest playfully and he chuckles again.
"I'll tell you anything you want to know about my scars if you'll return the favor." he turns his head towards her his eyes still closed a peaceful expression on his face. She hums an affirmative and leans up to lightly lay a kiss against a small white scar on his throat before laying her head against his chest.
"Tell me about tha' one then, even if it's stupid or you don' remember. Make it up if ya have too." she mumbles into his chest as he chuckles and rolls onto his stomach making it so that her head now rests against his shoulder blade.
"It's a stupid one, got into a bit of a knife fight as a boy. Scared my mother half to death. I'm fuzzy on the details, don't know if I won or not. It was a long time ago and the idiot I fought with is long dead, not from my hands though. Life of crime didn't pay well for him, he owed the wrong people money." he sighs and shifts slightly "What about you Mary? The scar along your ribs, what's that from?"
She laughs against his back before heaving a huge sigh "A duel, over a woman none the less. A man made claim ta her an she'd no wish ta be claimed. Mostly he was jealous o' me, I think. A little to friendly with what he thought of as 'is woman. I won tha' fight, my ribs smarted like hell though." she nuzzles his shoulder blade and drags her hand down his side and around over his rump to poke at a larger pinker scar on his inner thigh "This one then. How'dya get it Kenway?"
He snorts "I woke up with it a few months back. I don't remember much about the night, I was rather drunk that particular night. Whenever I asked about it no one would look me in the eyes so it must have been embarrassing. I probably tried to dance or something." he snorts again and chuckles "Possibly on a table, naked."
She bursts into helpless laughter trying and failing to muffle it in his back "Please tell me I can ask Ade about this, gods man! This could make my whole year!" he nods and hums an affirmative.
"The scar across your lower back. Where is that from?" he asks as she shifts so she is now fully laying atop him.
She runs her fingers through his hair as she stares contemplatively into the distance "I was married once you know." she feels him tense under her and she laughs "He didn' beat me if tha's what yer thinking. We owned a tavern of sorts, we were happy. I got the scar because I got in-between two duelers. I say duelers but they were both rather drunk, the one who cut me actually cut me with a broken bottle. I'd tried to stop the fight ya see, my husband was so angry that I'd been hurt he'd banned both men from the establishment. It hurt quiet a bit, but I wasn' having that sort of thing in my tavern. It was stupid but it was my livelihood they were messing with. Now you, the one on the back of your left hand."
He shifts just slightly so he can raise his hand enough to wrap his fingers with hers "I had a job on the docks when I was barely just a man, it was before I had an actual position on a boat as well as the Navy." he's quiet for a while before he sighs and continues "I'd just met Caroline for the first time, I wasn't her only suitor. He wasn't the least bit amused with my presence." he's quiet again for sometime before he chuckles "He tried to intimidate me, when that didn't work he tried to pay me off. I was having none of that, obviously he felt like I threatened him, like I had a chance with Caroline, a merchant's daughter. I told him 'may the best man win' and laughed at him, he wasn't amused. He payed a few thugs to be his guard because they had less scruples. He then sic'd 'em on me, I barely got out of that one alive. The scar on my hand is one of many from that fight, but it won me Caroline's favor in the end. She didn't want a bully and that's what he was, a bully who used his money to try and get what he wanted." he shrugs and buries his head in his pillow. "It's getting late, we should sleep. Don't you have a crew to handle in the morning?"
She snorts and curls into his side "Yeah, we can finish story time some other time." The two slowly drift off into sleep.
