Rose stared at her phone in disbelief. How could Jake just ignore her advances like that? Really Jake, Really. She was on the passenger side of the car waiting to aid her accomplice with his ingenious plan. Clad in her former hunts girl attire she hid behind her woven mask.
"What's wrong pretty boy blew you off?" He taunted.
"Shut up Anonymous." Rose scoffed, clearly frustrated. "Let's just get this over with."
"Did you get the final piece of the puzzle?"
"I'm on it, just give me more time. " Rose huffed out a loud sigh.
Anonymous parked the Range Rover in the thicket of the woods. He opened the trunk lifting a chest from out of the open space. Rose grabbed a sack from the front seat, she then slammed the door enraged.
"Hey! Watch the doors this is my Dad's car." Rose rolled her eyes at him.
The two hiked the dark trail to the entrance of their underground cavern. The bright turbo flash light completely lit up their path.
Anonymous shined light toward the dried out creek.
"Our hideout its been exposed!" Rose leaped into the pit to examine what could have removed the stone lid used to disguise the entryway.
"Quick shine the light over this way." She demanded. The large opening was illuminated with a simple gesture.
The edges were jagged as though someone had tried to brake through and succeeded. A long curly strand of black hair caught her eye.
Anonymous had joined her within the pit. "Some one's hair?"
"Yeah, the hair of the American Dragon's little sidekick."
"Hmmm, you said no one would find it here!" Anonymous was alarmed.
"Maybe they didn't even find it down there."
"For your sake you'd better hope not."
"Is that a threat?" Rose's defenses shot up. He held her gaze like a predator approaching its prey.
Rose broke eye contact searching though the supplies from her sack looking for the rope ladder they used to register the cave.
After both climbed down they followed the tunnel that was in the center.
The two shined their flash lights forward revealing what appeared to be various shoe prints, one pair small and dainty, another long and narrow and the other large and wide and paw prints; Defiantly the prints of a dog of some kind. Rose lit the torches providing an orangey glow of illumination.
This upset Anonymous even greater, Rose just pretended not to notice. The pair finally reached their destination. Symbols that once graced the hollow walls and the clay of the earth had been disrupted.
"It's gone I can't believe this!" Anonymous had ran up to the small alter, tugging his scalp in distress. He threw what was left of the crushed herbs and silk drapes that had once adorned the small shrine. The golden amulet a key commodity had gone astray the onyx gem it held was the primary piece to the American Dragon's undoing.
"We'll get it back I'm sure of it, I have a plan. "
"This is all your fault you fool!" He called her, along with a slew of derogatory slurs.
Rose unappreciative of the name-calling backhanded him slamming him into the wall.
"I SAID WE'LL GET IT BACK!" She fired ready to demonstrate a full display of her physical strength.
"You are an expendable asset." She warned. Her eyes narrowed to intimidating slits.
Her sudden out burst seemed to remind him of how dangerous the hunts girl really was, was he truly in over his head?
Moments later he gained his composure, even if it was only to complete his mission, no…. fulfill his desires.
"Alright. Alright, I'm…I'm sorry. But how are you planning on getting it back."
"Believe me, I have my sources. We'll have it back in no time."
BUZZZ….BUZZZZZ…..B….
Jake's annoying alarm clock interrupted his pleasant dreams, very normal for that of a teenaged boy or as Jake would have it a young man. Sweet cinnamon tinted skin, raven curls, full lustful lips, curvy hips obeying his every whim.
He tossed and turned, blindly reaching for the snooze button, he longed for those extra five minutes of sleep.
BUZZZZZZZZ…BUZZZZZZZ…..
Jake's eyes shot open, apparently he had missed his target. He forced himself awake though his head felt groggy and heavy. Lifting up in his bed he finally silenced his alarm clock.
He pulled back his blanket revealing his morning wood. "Dang Trix, you got me good girl. " He spoke his attraction into existence. He felt a bit guilty for he was still technically in a relationship with Rose even if things weren't so hot right now. Not to mention what would Trixie think if she knew her best friend was have kinky fantasies about her. He felt it was so normal yet so wrong at the same time.
The bronzed skinned proclaimed Mac Daddy walked to the bathroom to have first dibs on the shower. The cool water traveled down his tense muscles preparing him for the day. His wardrobe on this day consisted of a white tee and dark grey cargos, his new neon green faux leather jacket and of course you know ya boy was sportin' fresh new Jordans to match.
Down stairs his mother was already making breakfast. "Morning Mom, morning Dad."
"Good morning son, how'd you sleep?" Jonathan asked.
Jake's mind returned to the events that took place in his dream, "Great, Dad." He replied a bit too enthused.
"Good morning, Jake " Susan replied. Haley greeted her older brother with a wave. Jake nodded his head upward, a friendly gesture amongst young people these days. The siblings may have hit rock bottom but they were trying to mend broke fences. Jake's American Dragon duties placed a strain on their relationship, and as usual Haley's recognition in academics and her display of talent always irked Jake when rubbed in his face.
Along with his backpack and skateboard, Jake grabbed a piece of toast assembling a sandwich with the egg and bacon on the plate normally meant for him.
"See you guys later."
"Good luck Jake." His mother wished his in reference to the events of last night.
"Thanks."
Jake figured he'd meet up with Trixie near her house. Boy, he couldn't wait to interrogate her, yell at her for setting his paranoia into over drive, hug her, to tell her every thing would be ok.
Speeding along on his skateboard with a little help from his wingspan he managed to find himself out side of her home within seconds. He didn't bother to knock perfectly aware of her morning routine. As she got older she started to take more pride in her appearance, she even wore make up from time to time though she didn't need it. Trixie was a natural beauty, she looked so majestic with her natural coils and curls.
Right on cue he heard the door open, he lifted his head at her slender figure.
"Jakey, what are you doin' out here? " She asked softly. Her hair was straightened revealing her hairs true mid back length. Jake had to admit to himself she looked hot! She wore a see green graphic tee and a black and royal blue checkerboard striped mini skirt. Thigh high black socks graced her athletic legs, the results of skating and amdrag duties, calf length combat boots were clad on her small feet. Her backpack loosely draped over her toned shoulders.
"DON'T JAKEY ME!" He snapped. "What do you mean what I'm I doin' here you had me worried half to death with your little disappearing act last night." He said sternly.
Trixie stared at him with timid eyes, she had never seen such passion in his eyes concerning her safety. "I'm sorry Jakey, I didn't mean to upset you."
She had behaved so submissively. Jake thought it was odd considering if she were in her right mind how much of a mouth full she would have given him. Normally she'd have a sassy comeback waiting to bite him in the tail. He gathered his skateboard under his left arm, his backpack over the other. Trixie followed his lead on their ten-minute journey to Fillmore High.
"Who told you that you could dress like me." Jake lightened the mood.
"Uh, Jakey this is sea green not that crazy highlighter color you got on. " She teased. Jake lifted his brow at her.
He grabbed her arm pulling her into a big bear hug.
"Ummmmmmm…. I love it when you act like that." He took in the scent of her hair, running his fingers through the silky black texture.
"Jake get off, ha ha stawp actin cray cray!" She giggled pleased from this attention he was directing toward her.
"Nope, not until you tell me why you left like that. " He squeezed her tighter.
Trixie went silent for a moment. "I…I just want to put it behind me Jake, to just forget it ever happened."
How could anyone argue with that, but he did believe talking about it was a thousand times better that keeping her feelings bottled in.
He softened his grip around her frame granting her a gentle smile. He wasn't sure of what to say. She smiled wrapping her arms around his shoulders returning his embrace. Her head rested on his chest.
"I'm glad that you care Jakey, thank you for that." She traced the shape of a heart onto the other side of his chest, none of which went unnoticed by Jake the small motion made his own heart quicken in pace.
When she relieved him of their hug she expressed how apologetic she felt about alarming Jake's family.
"You still didn't tell me how the lights just blew out like that, I didn't even hear the door open, even still I would have seen the street lights."
"Oh I don't know." she simply answered.
Not getting much of an explanation out of her he decided to let go of the conversation. He glanced down at his phone. "Dang!" They had only three minuets to make it to school on time otherwise they'd have to serve detention. "We bout to be late!" Where had all that time gone, perhaps their constant flirting was more that a huge distraction. Both Jake and Trixie hopped on Jake's skateboard traveling nearly at the speed of light with the aid of Jake's powerful wings. They had grown much larger over the years, in fact his complete dragon form resembled that of a full grown male.
DINNNNGGGGGG!
They had made it right out side of the school as the finally bell had rung. "Aww man!"
Jake was not to thrilled about detention with Professor Rotwood After a brief lecture from Principal Derceto, something about balancing American dragon duties with responsibilities at school , he and Trixie were sentenced with an hour of cleaning chalk board erasers. Just once he thought his mermaid of a principal could be a bit more understanding.
"We would get detention with out Spud." He could make any dull experience an exciting one.
"I know, he'll feel so left out." Trixie headed off in the opposite direction to start another long day at school.
"I'll see you at lunch Trix." He called out to her.
"You too. See you then."
Later on after first period had ended Jake stopped at his locker to grab his algebra book. Every one seemed to be kissing up to him out of the blue.
"Jake, my man. What's up?" Miles the captain of the football team greeted him.
Jake slapped the others hand in an endearing manner.
"Sup, Miles."
"See you at the big game on Friday bra! When are you gonna try out we need a brotha like you on the team."
"Thanks man but I have a job after school, I don't have the time. Aight', Later. "
"Hook me up with ole girl, heard how you tapped that." Mile requested with a sly smirk.
Jake's brows furrowed into a displeased look, before he had a chance to respond Miles had disappeared around the hall with his entourage of in-crowd friends. He scoffed at the thought of any man putting his hands on his best friend especially after the incident with Kyle. Hey maybe even a part of that was jealously oddly to say. And what did he mean 'hook' him up, Trixie wasn't some toy that could be passed around like that. That was highly disrespectful not only to Trixie, but to himself as well. Jake was quite territorial must have been some sort of dragon instinct. He was more disturbed at the fact that Miles wanted to violate her body than the rumor going around about them sleeping together. Had Miles not scattered away so quickly Jake would have surly knocked his teeth out.
He turned the knob of his locker to the correct combination, yanking the door open in frustration. His textbooks came tumbling out onto the white tile floor. He huffed in irritation. Bending down he gathered his fallen text.
"Aww man." Jake grunted he didn't have time for this. He stooped to his knees stacking each book accordingly. He sat on the floor of the hallway he didn't care that he would be late for another class, he already had detention any how. At least he'd have a chance to think things through with all the events that had occurred in only a short amount of time.
He placed his books back into his locker pulling out the one that was labeled algebra two; a folded piece of white printer paper fell to the floor. Jake swallowed hard he had remembered the notebook paper he'd found days earlier. He figured it was Rotwood picking on him again, trying to find ways to expose his identity to the world. Jake breathed out slowly.
"Gahh, get a grip Jake. "He said to himself. After all it's not like Rotwood ever succeeded in his ridiculous plans, why would this time be any different.
After lifting the sheet from the floor he glared at the magazine clippings glued to it.
YOUR TOO CLOSE…SOME ONE YOU LOVE MIGHT GET HURT….
It was clear by the expression on his face that he was absolutely clueless of what it meant. He looked around studying faces of students passing by in the hall looking for any signs of suspicion.
DA DOO DA DOO DO… Buzzed an all to familiar ring tone. Jake had forgotten to turn his phone to silent for the school day.
HOW DID THINGS GO WITH STACY!? Read the text message from Jake's love stuck best friend Spud. Taking his mind off of the hair-raising note Jake recalled the promise he had made.
MY BAD SPUD I FORGOT TO TALK TO HER. A LOTS BEEN GOIN' ON. FILL YOU IN LATER.
Perhaps a second opinion would help to ease his mind. He scurried off to class before receiving another tardy.
OK JUST CALL ME LATER DUDE.
Glancing at the last message the dark haired boy switched his phone to silent then headed off to class.
Trishelle Trixie Marie Carter found herself doodling hearts and dragons on a sheet of college rule paper. She began sketching the word 'Jake' in the center of the page in purple gel ink. Yeah so only girly girls would waste all their time swooning over a boy but this was different. Who knows maybe it was this morning or last night, perhaps it was always there. Trixie had felt a spark ignite within her, whenever she was in Jake's presence she felt something, something that made her stomach flutter.
"Your home work assignment for tonight is to read chapters five thought seven, and answer the questions listed on page 98." Announced the history teacher.
Trixie jotted down the information on a clear sheet of notebook paper.
Dingg!
The bell had rang signaling the ten minute break before the next class. She gathered her books slipping them into her backpack. Lucky for her she had the first lunch bell of the day staring after those ten minuets. Making her way up to the second floor Trixie stopped at her locker to retrieve her oversized cardigan. The lunchroom could feel like a winter wasteland some times.
She placed her harajuku lovers book bag on the floor, once her locker was opened she freshened up her lip-gloss in the miniature mirror hanging on the inside of the door. After slipping on her huge black sweater she slammed her locker door only to be startled by the face on the other side of it. "Kyle!" Trixie's eyes widened in terror.
"Miss me?" Kyle asked with a menacing grin.
The hall was empty not a soul in sight. Trixie felt like a young fawn fallen prey to a rabid wolf. She tried backing away from Kyle only to be roughly snatched up by him.
He pinned her to the lockers with his body gripping his hand around her neck. Kyle forced his lips against hers; she jerked her head away from Kyle's forceful kiss.
"Uhh! NO… Please…. DON'T!" She whimpered trying to free herself from his hold. "Leave me alone." Hot tears had arisen amongst her dark orbs.
Kyle bit down into her neck, marking her as his own. Trixie's rush of fear allowed her to push him away. She had scratched the skin off his eyelid with her sharp feminine nails.
"You BI$ H!" He yelled knocking her to the floor. He crawled on top of her pinning both her arms to either side of her head. She tossed, turned, and kicked but he straddled her legs with his strong thighs. Her screams were muffled by another attempt at taking her lips with his. Kyle Gripped both of her outstretched wrists in one hand. Trixie tried fighting back with all of her might but was only constricted by more of his body weight. With one free hand he caressed her bare thigh traveling underneath her skintight mini skirt. His kisses trailed from the slope of her neck to the swell of her breast.
"Nooo… Please, please don't do this." Trixie cried.
Kyle felt empowered hearing her cry out in fear. Trixie felt herself become nauseous at the stench of his stale breath. His hand found the lace trim of her cotton panties. Trixie held her eyes shut praying for this all to be over with.
She felt his hand yank from out of her skirt; her wrists were free once more. With her eyes still shut she heard a wheezing, it sounded as if Kyle was gasping for air. Those big brown eyes shot open, oh the relief she felt when she laid eyes on Jake.
The angered young dragon had strangled Kyle by the collar his shirt, he then forced him into a chokehold. Jake squeezed his neck as if he were popping a balloon. Trixie peered up from the floor in awe of her hero but quickly came to her senses when she witnessed Kyle's face turn of shade of plum purple.
She placed her dainty hand on Jake's broad shoulder. "Jakey he's not worth it hun." She was afraid that he would cross the line of taking a life, she couldn't let that happen no matter how much she wanted Kyle to suffer for his sins. His frame softened at her touch. Obediently Jake dropped Kyle to the cold white tiles like a ragdoll and prepared to escort Trixie to safety.
"Have fun with my leftovers, she was wet and tight. " Kyle chuckled in a deranged tone, breathing as if it were his last breath.
Jake glanced back, veins popping in his neck. Trixie could have sworn she saw smoke seeping from his nostrils, hopefully Kyle would only think he was imagining such things. She had warned Jake before about his temper and the possibility of exposing his dragon identity.
Jake's fist connected with Kyle's face with such force that Trixie heard his nose crack, the sound made her squeamish.
"DON'T….EVER….. COME…NEAR… HER….AGAIN!" Jake stressed between each jab.
Kyle fell to his knees, Jake's foot rammed into his ribcage snapping a few bones.
"Ahhh….Uggghhhhhhhhh." Kyle grunted in pain.
"I swear on every bone in my body I will KILL YOU if you touch her again, don't even look at her!"
Kyle moaned clearly injured. His neck carried purplish-blue welts from Jake's large fingertips; blood dripped from his broken nose and busted lip. His black eye had swelled to the size a tennis ball in a matter of seconds. Jake had beaten him badly. Kyle did try fighting back but his strength was no match for Jake's supernatural brawns.
Trixie was glad no one had witness the brutality of Jake's actions; she had never seen him this angry or fight this dirty even with amdrag stuff. This time it was personal.
Jake tossed Trixie's black and white harajuku lovers backpack over his shoulder, he took hold of her arm motioning her toward the ragged old stairwell.
Before descending down toward the cafeteria Jake observed Trixie for any injuries. He stared at the bruises around her wrist and ran his finger along the reddened teeth marks on her neck.
"You ok Trix?" Jake searched her eyes concerned.
"Thank you Jake" She shook her head, her eyes were glossy and filled with sorrow.
He wrapped his arms around her petite frame. Trixie returned his embrace letting out a river of emotion. She truly was grateful Jake came to her aid, but what if he hadn't.
"Every thing is gonna be ok baby girl, I won't let him hurt you anymore." Jake consoled the weeping young woman. He caressed the small of her back trying to comfort her.
Trixie took a deep breath trying to calm her heavy sobs, she then dried her eyes with the sleeve of her dark knit.
"Come on Jakey lets get to lunch." Her voice shuttered. Jake took hold of her hand interlacing his fingers with hers. They walked down the stairwell. The two rounded the corner of the first floor releasing each other's hand upon sighting Rose. Jake had remembered he was supposed to be meeting with Rose after school. Things weren't the same anymore he had a feeling that had been nagging at his conscience for the past few weeks. He wanted to end things with Rose for good.
"Rose I have detention after school today, mind if we meet up a little later?" He said walking up to her.
"Ok Baby. " She agreed pecking him on the cheek. Trixie stood behind them staring off into space trying to avoid the sting of envy she felt.
"What's with her?" The blonde asked suspiciously.
"She had a long day." Jake stressed.
"Hmm, well it better not have been to 'LONG' of a day for her." She emphasized his last name. Rose noticed Jake carrying around Trixie's book bag. She narrowed her eyes toward her.
Jake grew annoyed at her jealousy, she didn't seem to care all this time when she continued to blow him off, why the change of mind?
"I'll meet you by the clock tower around six." He informed her.
"Ok babe, see you then." She pressed her lips against his, when he didn't return the gesture she shrugged and headed off for her 3rd period class. Jake and Trixie then went off to lunch.
Professor Rotwood had spent the lunch hour enjoying his break, reading a few articles from the monthly magic magazine, and studying a few slides containing furs from a Sasquatch. His classroom had been isolated from the rest of the classes. The 2nd floor was lonely. It only contained a few lockers, an old abandoned study hall, and his own mythology class. He cursed to himself well aware that his classroom had been moved there in mockery of his many attempts to expose magical creatures.
Like he normally would on such a day Hans Rotwood decided to check his mailbox downstairs in the teachers lounge, maybe grab a few doughnuts along the way. He walked along singing some played out tune when he noticed a student near the lockers writhing on the floor in agony. His eyes widened in worry as he rushed to the young man's side.
The school day was nearly at its end.
"Jake Long, please report to the principal's office!" Boomed the voice over the intercom.
"Ooooo, you in trouble." Cracked a nosy instigator. Chattering voices filled around the classroom with gossip.
Jake's chemistry teacher dismissed him to the office and hush the teenaged drama spewing about the room.
He rose from his seat mentally preparing himself for whatever twisted lies Kyle had come up within the past hour since knocking his lights out. The urgency in Principal Derceto's voice told him he'd have a lot of explaining to do. Jake walked down the halls digging his claws into the cream colored walls. He tried keeping his composure so he wouldn't be tempted to finish off that cowardly weasel. Jake entered the small room present with Kyle, Professor Rotwood, the school's nurse, Principal Derceto and a security office clearly ready to escort Jake off of the school premises.
"Have a seat Mr. Long." Principal Derceto voiced sternly.
To be continued….
