"So… you and Trixie, huh?" Spud questioned with open ears, he was determined to hear how this happened.
The night before he'd learned that his two best friends were finally dating.
"Naw man." Jake laughed. "I just said that to get your ass out of hot water."
"But…you…she…? " The 6 foot tall teenager was baffled.
"Well I can't lie, I wouldn't mind makin' Trix wifey since I'm back on the market you know. " Jake tried to play it cool with out sounding like a lovesick puppy. After all the Mac Daddy had a reputation to live up to.
"I knew you liked her since last year." Spud admitted.
Jake flashed his pearly whites acknowledging Spud's statement as fact.
"Yeah….. so what's up with you and Stacy? Every thing cool?"
"Yeah man thanks to you." He declared playing with his orange and green yoyo. "Took you long enough though." Spud teased in reference to Jake's procrastination.
"Where'd y'all go last night?" Jake raised his brow curiously.
Spud smirked at his best friends question. "Does that mean what I think it means? " Asked Jake.
"Well…. sort of. "
"Man I was about to say thought my boy got laid there for a second. I need me some booty." Jake exaggerated.
"We made it to 2nd base." Spud grinned.
"Ha ha ha! I'm salty." Jake high fived him.
"She was hot bro! Maybe I can't hook you and Trix up since your taking so long to make a move." Spud boasted.
"Naw man, I got dis." He rubbed his hands together like an evil villain confident in his plans of world domination. His hormones contributed to all of the naughty thoughts flowing though his adolescent mind.
"She's all mine. She just don't know it yet."
"I hate to be a Debbie downer only not a chick, but would Trixie be alright with that? You know after the whole Kyle thing. She might not want to." Spud made a point.
"…" Jake thought for a moment. "When She's ready. I wouldn't pressure her."
Jake knew Trixie's traumatic experience would forever change the way she viewed the opposite sex. He had lost his own virginity to Danika Hunnic utt in a broom closet after school four years ago, and sometimes had trouble suppressing his urges. He believed Trixie deserved the best from him so he would tame himself for her, but when the day came he would be sure to show Trixie the real way a man makes love to a woman.
"Uh huh...How was the pizza?" Spud changed the subject.
"Da BOMB!"
"What did you and Trixie talk about?"
"Not much this creep was starring at her since you guys left, so we just ate then I took her home. "
"Speaking of which I need you to keep an eye on Trixie while I'm gone."
"Why? Where are you going?"
"Spud weren't you listening yesterday I'm suspended for two weeks."
"I can only come after school to pick up my assignments."
"Of course Bro, I wouldn't let any thing happen to Trix."
The two boys were hanging out at their local skate park surrounded by asphalt and concrete. A light breeze played with the ends of Spuds brown locks. He stuffed his hard shell taco in his mouth to sooth his raging hunger.
Jake munched on one of his enchiladas. He and Spud had purchased their lunch from a food truck called Mucho Delicioso. The green and black haired boy was seated on his skateboard, chewing like he hadn't eaten in five years. The area was shaded thanks to the bridge above their heads.
"Well at least I get to sleep all day but knowing gramps he'll be making my ass do Amdrag stuff. Come to think of it I have been neglecting it since dealing with this Kyle shit. "
"I can't believe he's on the run." Spud mumbled through a stuffed mouth.
"I'm going to find him and make sure he's locked up" Jake's mind wandered to a dark place. Though the sensible thing to do would be to have him incarcerated, Jake could only think of ripping him limb from limb. Spud noticed Jake's eyes fade from black to a golden yellow, his pupils elongated into long reptilian like slits. His face displayed a scowl.
"Well get him bro."
"I know." He blinked, his eyes changed back to their original darkness. Spud had to admit that was pretty cool. At first he thought it was a little creepy, like something from a horror film.
Taking the last bite of his taco Spud asked, "Are you going to eat that?" with an over stuffed mouth.
Jake blinked at Spud as if he had a third eye growing from the center of his head. He snapped his container closed and pulled it close to his chest guarding it like a precious treasure. He began to growl like a rabid wolf.
Spud lifted his hands in defeat, he couldn't argue with that body language. He definitely couldn't wait to get some money in his pocket again after all he spent all his money trying to get back home. Spud worked at a run down market across town where vendors would come to sell their goods at reasonable prices and wouldn't receive his pay until two weeks from now.
"I'm still hungry." He whined. Jake threw a five-dollar bill folded into a finger-sized football at his head. "Go buy your own."
"Yes! Thanks bro!" Spud speeded over to the truck. "Two more tacos please."
"Wow you already had five." The cook mentioned while collecting the green bill with his gloved hand. He seemed disgusted by the sneer he gave Spud. Spud shrugged his shoulders reminded of the other night when he left Aunt Janis' after being humiliated at dinner.
"I'm surprised he's not fat yet! Well then again maybe not with those hoodlums he hangs around. I'm sure he's off doing drugs most of the time." The cold woman announced to the entire dinner table.
"It's those ethnic kids!" Spud's grandma Sally chimed in. "Arthur I told you not to let my grandson around those dark skinned barbarians." She told her son Spud's father. Every one sat silently somewhat in shock.
Spud couldn't believe what he was hearing, his aunt just accused him of tampering with substances and his grandma just racially profiled his best friends. And what made matters worse they embarrassed him in front of the rest of the family. He felt beyond insulted although no one would ever know it because he'd never let it show.
Spud already felt like an outsider in his family. So what if he was a little weird, that didn't make it right to treat him so badly.
So he cared more about skateboards and magic tricks more than he cared about computer engineering or finding a cure for the common cold. His cousins did the same they just weren't as upfront about it.
"And have you seen his girl friend." Janis referenced Stacy after seeing a photograph of her on the nightstand in the guest room Spud was staying in.
"She's like a dammed Barbie doll. What could that silly little bimbo possibly bring to this family?" She spat flipping her own brunette tresses away from her face.
A very visible nerve popped in Spud's neck. It was one thing to bash him or to slander his friends but nobody and I mean no body would get away with trashing his woman.
Arthur Spud's father continued grazing at his plate pretending not to hear any of the matter. And that was the straw that broke the camel's back! Arthur P. Spudinski the first knew the attacks on his son were meant for himself. His sister constantly looked for his short comings in an attempt to sabotage him due to her own envious nature. His son in her eyes was the perfect target. But Spud knew nothing of this he just thought himself a disappointment to his father.
Spud was so furious he knocked every thing in his reach to the floor shattering several crystal plates and ruined the remainder of food and desert no one reached in time for seconds. He hollered spreading havoc storming up the stairs.
"Janis! That was seriously uncalled for." Arthur and Janis' sister Mallory called out.
"Oh what ever Mallory, you know it's the truth."
"Your acting like a child Janis!" Her husband Raymond confronted her with a look of disapproval. Her own sons Jeremy and Ben were also disappointed.
"Yeah Mom that wasn't cool." They couldn't believe their mother had crossed that line.
"You should be ashamed of yourself that's my grandson you're talking about." Granny was old and crazy so they didn't pay her much mind.
"Oh please you all were thinking it anyway, am I the only one around here not afraid to speak the truth. Look at how he trashed the place, no respect?" Spud over heard from the stairwell.
He continued ascending to his guest room salvaging each of his belongings cramming them into his alien themed suitcase. Not once did he shed a tear though the pain stung within him.
He ordered himself a one-way ticket back home to New York. And propelled his suitcase from the window using two bed sheets tied into a make shift rope.
From it he carefully climbed down onto the branches of a grand old tree perched beside the house. Spud walked and walked and walked through the murky grass. Rain poured from the sky accompanied by thunder. He reach the main road an hour later lucky for him his plane wasn't due until 2 hours from now. Cars road past Spud splashing him with dirty water from the curb. His clothes were soaked and his hair was drenched. The sky was dark and the only thing visible was the full moon along with a few streetlights and the headlights from cars riding past. Finally he came across an all you can eat buffet right across from a gas station. Spud could feel his stomach growling he worked up an appetite from all that walking. Once inside he called a cab to get himself to the airport, he grabbed a plate and pilled it high as can be gobbling as much down as possible. He went back up for seconds then thirds before he knew it he was on his sixth plate.
"YOU ALREADY HAD FIVE GET OUT OF MY RESTAURANT!" Yelled the very angry owner. Spud already had enough people on his back. He didn't see what the big deal was he was prepared to pay for every thing he consumed. The other customers burst into laughter. Spud felt humiliated soon he would make a sport of destroying plates and glass cups.
"FUCK YOU!" he flashed his right middle finger while exiting the restaurant.
"COME BACK HERE YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL THIS! I'M CALLING THE POLICE!"
"SCREW YOU." Spud got as far from that place as he could, his suitcase was now strapped to his shoulders like a backpack. He heard police sirens in the distance and was so happy he got away before they arrived. He called the cab station to have his scheduled ride meet him at the dollar store he had walked to.
On the arrival of the airport Spud spent a hefty amount on his cab ride it was more expensive than he expected. Good thing he didn't pay for that meal or he'd be up shit creek. Within the next hour he was on his way back home.
"KID! KID!"
"HUH?" Spud snapped out of his memory
"Here's your food."
"Oh, thanks."
Louise Carter, Trixie's grandmother was interrupted from her favorite soap opera when she heard a constant ringing from the doorbell.
"Dang on it, just when it was getting to the good part." Grumbled the old woman. She slowly lifted from the dark red love seat cracking the ache from her back.
DING DONG DING DONG!
"I'm comin'! I'm comin'!" she yelled.
She opened the green door only to reveal two teenaged boys on the opposite side of it.
"Hi ." both boys voiced.
"Oh, you two again, haven't seen you in a while." She referred to Spud.
"Trishelle! Yo' boyfriend James Small and that weird kid Potato is down here fa' ya'!"
"Y'all go on up, that girl act like she cain't hear some times. I got to get back to ma show. " She expressed.
The boys chuckled at her loud out burst. Without hesitation the two trotted up the stairs. Jake barged into Trixie's room with out so much as a knock.
"JAKE!"
"Ooops My Bad!" Jake got quite an eye full he had walked in on the girl's nude frame of course she tried concealing herself with her bath towel from Jake's lust filled eyes. Jake starred for a moment.
"GET OUT!" She slammed the door.
"Right! Sorry Trix." Spud tried to see what all the commotion was about but every thing happened so quickly.
"What? What happen why are you smiling like that?"
"Shh… cool man. Be cool." Jake wiggled his brows.
"Ohhhh." Spud had caught on.
"Knock next time please!"
Both boys started to giggle like schoolgirls that spotted their crush.
"Shut up! I can hear y'all out there!"
"My bad, my bad." Jake said his back resting on her door.
"Don't worry Trix I didn't see any thing." Said Spud. Both boys still 'laughing.
BAM! Jake fell to the floor after Trixie swung her door open.
"Oww!" He groaned. Spud laughed hysterically plopping into the green bag chair in the corner of the room, Trixie rolled her dark brown eyes.
"That's what you get."
Trixie was now dressed in an over sized pink unicorn shirt long enough to pass for a dress.
Jake took a quick glance at her chocolate colored legs. He felt his face grow hot and tried his best to conceal his excitement after what he'd just seen. The very ideas running though his mind made him feel like a dog, an animal with no control. Her hair was freshly washed dripping tiny droplets of water. Her once straighten hair had curled back up returning to their uniform corkscrew shape.
"What chu over there cheezin' for." Trixie asked acknowledging Jakes goofy grin.
"Nothin'." He lied.
"Riiiiiight…" Spud instigated.
"What ever. Ha Ha. Why were you takin' a shower so late late in the day any way?" Jake asked. "You should be in school young lady." Jake put on his best Professor Rotwood impersonation.
Neither of the three had to be in school Jake was suspended, Trixie was allow two days off, and Spud was still supposed to be on vacation.
"I slept in, THANK YOU." She rolled her neck and stated in the sassiest tone of voice.
"You got a problem with that?" She said sarcastically.
"Nope!" Jake winked plopping next to her on her fully queen sized bed.
"It's good to be home." Spud sighed.
"Oh yeah Spud you never did tell us why your back so early." Trixie mentioned.
"I just missed you guys that's all, Ohio was boring anyway. Plus I had to get Stacy back." He told a half-truth.
"I feel you." Exclaimed Jake. He didn't really believe Spud's explanation but didn't think it was the right time to question him. He could tell some thing had been bothering him he just wasn't sure how to bring up the subject.
"Wait you left on your own?" Trixie asked.
"Yep!"
"Hmm."
Jake tugged at one of Trixie's curls he was amazed at how her hair could litteral shrink to a fraction of its length. His finger moved to dance in her ear.
"HEE HEE! Stawp Jake! That tickles!"
A ring tone was head from the corner of the room.
"Yo?" Spud answered.
"Arthur p. Spudinski! I been worried sick! Where the hell are you?"
"At home." Spud said nonchalantly.
Jake and Trixie were nosy trying to hear the person on the other end of the phone.
"You mean to tell me your way back in New York while we've been out searching for you all night!"
"Wow. Dad I've been missing for over 48 hours and you just thought to pick up the phone and give me a call."
"I did call about a million times!"
"Yeah like you care. You just sat there like you didn't even care. Your ashamed of me!"
Jake and Trixie had never seen Spud so angry, His eyes were cold and steely.
"No that's not true, I couldn't be more proud of yo.."
"GO TO HELL." He clicked the end call button then turned of his cell phone.
"Spud, man you cool?" Jake asked concerned, Trixie was in shock from how enraged Spud appeared to be.
"I'll be ok."
