Chapter 15
After dinner Seth and I cleared away the dishes, me washing, him drying. When the dishes were cleared, Seth plopped himself down on the couch and turned on some mindless action movie. I moved up the stairs and laid on my bed. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked for any missed calls or messages. Not that there were any. Not that there ever usually were. Not like I had a huge circle of friends who were clamoring for my attention. I laughed darkly. And then I checked my phone again. Still nothing. Of course. Not like anything would have changed in the minute since I had last checked it.
I stood and walked to my window, opening it a crack. There was a cool breeze blowing as a soft rain fell. I breathed in the fresh air, which smelled lightly of pine trees. I crossed back to my bed and laid down. I closed my eyes and tried to relax. Not two minutes later I was reaching to check my phone, again.
"AAARGH!" I shoved myself up from my bed, leaving my phone, and stormed from my room.
"Whoa. Everything ok, Leah?" Seth cocked one eyebrow as he looked up at me from the couch in the living room below.
"I'm fine." I snapped, before slamming the bathroom door behind me. I started the shower and closed the curtain. I began undressing, and stopped, catching my reflection in the mirror.
"Quit acting like an idiot!" I scolded myself. "You're being ridiculous." I turned away, ripped my shirt off over my head and stepped into the hot shower. I washed my hair vigorously, trying to erase all thoughts and worries from my mind, as if they could be scrubbed away like dirt and sweat. I let the water run over my face and my shoulders.
I emerged from the steam filled bathroom, cloaked in my towel.
"Jeez, could you take ANY longer?" Seth poked his head out from his room down the hall, "I have to pee!" He ran down the hall and slammed the bathroom door behind him. I laughed my way to room and shut the door.
I walked to my dresser and grabbed my pajamas, a pair of shorts and an old t-shirt. I laid them on the bed and picked up my phone. The light was blinking. I clicked the home button, but there was no message. Just an alert telling my that one of apps had an update ready. I sighed and threw it back on the bed. I pulled my pajamas on and threw my towel in the hamper in the closet. That was when I heard the muffled buzzing from me.
I spun around and grabbed my phone. The screen was lit, showing a new message. It was from an odd number. I opened it eagerly.
"Hey there, stranger! :)" A smile broke across my face as my fingers flew to answer her text.
"That you, thumper?"
"LOL. As if an elephant could text!"
"But that's Dumbo, remember? ;)"
":P"
I leaned back onto my pillow smiling like an idiot, phone in hand.
A/N: Lot's of fluff. Fluff upon fluff. But I just couldn't resist. I'm in that mood. I wanted a bit of the temperamental Leah, mixed with the soft side we haven't seen. Another chapter coming soon. Thanks for all your support! Til then, Kate.
