Hello readers I wanted to let you know that I am back. I just moved and adopted a pup so I've had a lot less spare time but I am committed to finishing the story. I apologize for keeping you guys waiting for so long.
After making sure that Sven was safe James said his goodbyes and headed home. He made his way out of the castle and walked to the separate building where his family lived. James opened the door expecting his parents to be sleeping but to his surprise he found Kai sitting in front of the fire place waiting for him.
"Hello papa, why are you still awake?"
"Son we need to talk" said Kai He gestured toward the chair and his son promptly sat down.
"Is something wrong?" James asked
"I saw you with her, how long has this been going on?"
Kai gave James a very stern look the kind of look that always got him to confess whenever he did something wrong.
"A month"
"You have to leave her before things become serious, you don't know what you are doing." Said Kai
"I am an adult and Elsa is to we have decided to be together father."
"This isn't child's play James, Elsa is a queen she needs to marry a prince, and you are simply a commoner who had the grace of being born here." Said Kai his face growing redder with every passing second.
"We are not playing and I have never forgotten who I am."
Kai rubbed his forehead and began to speak again.
" Son It's time that you know the truth about what happened before I met your mother."
James's head was spinning what could he be talking about? Was there somebody else?
"A long time ago back when I was a servant boy and Elsa's father was a prince we were grate friends and often spent hours fighting with practice swords or figuring out who could shoot an arrow the furthest. In each other's eyes we were equals, just two friends."
Kai stopped for a second took a deep breath and continued
"Time passed and we become of age, the prince of course hosted a ball where many princesses tried to win his affection while I tried to meet a nice handmaiden."
"The prince was not impressed and was getting quite bored of meeting women. I on the other hand was not and eventually I met a nice common girl. We became friends that evening and we talked about every imaginable subject. I was smitten and I didn't want to ball to end because I knew that once the ball was over she would have to go."
"He got bored of all the royal nonsense and set out to find me, and find me he did. To my surprise the girl who I thought was a commoner turned out to be a princess and introduced herself to the prince as such. I was confused but the prince on the other hand was fascinated by her. By the time the night was over a marriage was being planned and I was left in the shadows."
"I never knew…."
"No one knew, I made sure of it."
"The princess often treated me as a best friend and that was the hardest task to endure. I helped plan their wedding, gave the prince relationship advice and even looked for a healer when they had trouble conceiving children."
"That sounds terrible."
"Not all of it was bad I met your mother and you came into the world a year after."
"What happened when the queen…passed?"
James could tell that Kai's heart still ached for her.
"When Elsa was born the queen panicked she didn't know what to do with her gifts and it had taken its toll on the marriage, She came to me for advice and I helped her with everything that I learned by caring for you. Once the initial shock had passed she made me promise that if anything happened to them that I would care for the princess and any future children."
"What did you say?"
"I accepted and I kept my promise….When I heard the boat was lost I feared the worst but I kept my hopes up for Anna and Elsa. When the cadavers where brought to Arendelle all hope died. The king was like my brother and the queen had a special place in my heart. Seeing their bodies and knowing the fate they encountered made me a different person. That is why I don't want you to stay with Elsa please consider a simpler life before your heart gets broken. Elsa may love you but the royal life will surely get in the way."
