Chapter 19
"uhum" said Elsa
Anna and Kristoff were startled and a bit embarrassed. They could hear James giggle behind Elsa
"Sorry to interrupt your fun but it's getting late and you need to rest Anna"
Anna didn't answer she just made a face
"Don't worry I will still be here tomorrow"
"Fine" huffed Anna
It was the middle of the night, everything seemed to be fine yet Elsa was having a nightmare. In it she tried to catch a faceless man who escaped her no matter how hard she tried .her powers where useless and he was headed straight for the town.
All of a sudden a frantic knocking on the door woke her up. Elsa was so startled that she froze an entire wall; her heart was still beating heavily as she opened the door. It was Johannes; he looked very pale almost as if he had just seen a ghost.
"Your grace s..s..sorry for bothering you at this hour but something terrible just happened"
"What happened?" said Elsa
"The prisoners Lev and Linus where murdered" he said nervously
"What? How? They were supposed to be guarded!" said Elsa as she started rushing towards the dungeon
"The Guards were attacked; whoever did this was very cunning"
"What about Kristoff?"
"He is in good health apparently other guards rushed down when they heard the commotion and chased the assailant."
Elsa was trying not to stress out but it wasn't working. She froze every hallway she walked down while she tried to make sense of what happened.
Kai was already on the scene when Queen Elsa arrived at the dungeon
"They were stabbed to death your grace." Said Kai
"But how?" "The entire castle is guarded and they had two of my best men watching them." Said Elsa
"I don't know your grace; I found them when I was making my rounds. Sir Kristoff was very distressed as well he was sent to infirmary."
"Wait what about Augustus…." Elsa suddenly realized that the man's life was in danger
"Who?" asked Kai
"There's no time to explain I need to find James."
Elsa rushed through the castle headed straight for James's living quarters. She knocked on the door and was greeted by a very sleepy Gerda.
"Queen, is everything all right?" Asked Gerda
Elsa explained the situation Gerda who promptly woke up her son .The queen also asked that she take Anna to see Kristoff. Once James was awake they summoned three guards, grabbed the horses and headed as fast as possible towards the village.
Once they reached Augustus's shop their hearts sunk .The door was open and an eerie calm told them that they were too late. James entered first with his sword drawn in case the murderer was still in the shop. Elsa stood behind him ready to blast anyone that could pose a threat.
The queen was the first to find his lifeless body. The man had been stabbed to death just like the other four victims. Elsa shed a few tears that froze as they ran down her cheeks. She felt guilty for not making sure he was safe.
"It wasn't your fault; whoever killed the others knew about him to." James tried to comfort Elsa while the guards picked up the cadaver in order to transport it to the castle.
Back at the castle Anna was woken by Gerda who looked very concerned. She explained everything and Anna wasted no time rushing to the infirmary. Once they reached their destination, she found Kristoff lying on a cot looking at the ceiling. Gerda and the physician stayed outside to give the couple some privacy.
"kristoff honey are you ok?" said Anna
"I'm fine just a little shaken." He said while trying to act calm
"What happened?"
"I don't know I didn't get to see anything, all I remember is the guards being murdered and a man asking Lev and Linus questions they seemed to be afraid of him .After they answered the question they were murdered. I heard footsteps walking towards my cell and then all of sudden a bunch of guards were chasing after him." Said Kristoff while rubbing his eyes
"You can't stay in the dungeon again; you are going to stay with me." Said Anna
"Umm Anna I don't think Elsa will like that." He said
"What's the worst that can happen?" She said while pointing at her belly
Kristoff let out a small giggle
"I just don't want you to get hurt." She said
All of a sudden Elsa and James entered the room cutting their conversation short.
Elsa asked kristoff about everything he witnessed. Once he told her what happened and Anna pitched her idea Elsa was convinced that the best thing to do was let Kristoff stay with her sister."
"Elsa I don't mean to under mind you but kristoff was accused of attempted murder. Not that I think he is guilty but I'm worried about what the villagers will think." Said James
"Kristoff is clearly not guilty and I don't need a trial to tell me that. He is the only witness to a massacre and we need to keep him safe. Declared Elsa
James was hurt by the way Elsa spoke, he decided to excuse himself and go see what other things he could help out with. Anna and Kristoff where stuck in the middle of a couples argument and decided to excuse themselves. Elsa decided to go find James and apologize.
