A/N: I'm going to try and update Parenting 101 tonight as well, but no promises. I just had some extra time before work today to write this one. Hope you guys like it! :)

Austin POV

"Yo Austin!" Dez yelled from across the room.

"For the last time, Dez, I don't have your Thor doll," I said, going back to the video game. I was at Dez's place for the day hanging out in his basement doing the usual; playing video games, eating peanuts, and listening to Dez as he told stories that I was almost positive weren't true. The joys of having him as a best friend.

I heard him stomp over to me. "I have to find Thor. Jane needs him!"

"Dude, he's probably off smashing something with his hammer," I smirked. "

He gasped. "You're right! He'll return to me soon enough." He flopped down on the chair beside me. "What would I do without you, man?"

"Honestly, I have no idea," I muttered. "It's a mystery Sarah is with you."

"Ouch."

"I'm kidding dude, you know I like Sarah."

"Too bad she hangs out with Claudia. Man, I can't stand that girl," Dez shuddered. "She's scary."

"Kind of have to. Stand her, I mean; she's the head cheerleader and we're both on the football and basketball team. We have to be around her alot."

"She still scares me. Her long strawberry blonde curls are practically waiting to strangle me to death, and her green eyes drive icicles down your spine when she glares you down. She's like the modern day Zeus," Dez said.

"I think you mean Medusa," I told him.

"No, she's the goddess with the power over lightning, thunder, and all that jazz." He kicked his leg in triumph. "Boom!"

"I now understand why you're failing Greek Mythology."

"What were we talking about again?"

"Claudia," I replied.

"Right."

"At least she doesn't cling to you any chance she gets. And when she finds out Sam and I are done, it's going to go downhill." Oops.

Dez caught me. "You and Sam are done?" Dez squeaked. "What the hell?"

I shrugged. "We broke up on Thursday."

He screamed this little girl scream he has, and quite frankly, it's pretty scary how much he sounds like a girl. "You've been broken up for three days and you didn't tell me?"

"I was getting to it," I defended myself.

He clapped my shoulder. "Well, since I know now, you can tell everyone else."

I laughed nervously. "Uh...the thing is...you aren't the first person to know. The second, actually."

"Sorry, it sounded like you just said I wasn't the first person to know," Dez said.

"I did."

"Who else knows?" He exclaimed, pausing our game. "I'm always the first to know everything about you! I was the first to know about your umbrella phobia, I was the first to know that you can't go to sleep without your stuffed dolphin, and I was the first to know about your love for-"

"Don't say the "S" word!" I told him.

"I'm going to."

"Don't you dare."

"It's coming out."

"Dez, I mean it."

"I can feel it in my throat!"

"Dez-"

"Singing!" He yelled. "Whoop, there it is."

"Dude, what the hell?" I exclaimed, hitting him in the arm.

"First of all, ouch. Second, no one is here besides us. And third, why won't you tell anyone about music?"

"Because it's embarrasing. I'm supposed to be this basketball and football star, not some music loving geek," I told him.

"Music isn't geeky. And you're good, man; you know it."

"Let's just drop it." I unpaused the game. "Ally."

"We just did a rally, but if you wanna race again-"

"No, I'm not talking about the video game," I interrupted. "I said Ally; I told Ally about Sam and I first."

"Claudia's emo stepsister you tripped? Dude, come on, seriously? I thought you can't stand her," Dez said.

I shrugged. "She's not that bad. Moody, I guess. And she's not emo. Kari and Paul are emo."

"Who are they?"

I stared at him. "Your cousins."

"Oh, right! I thought you were talking about a different Kari and Paul."

"How many Kari's and Paul's do you know?"

"Just two."

I shook my head.

"But I thought anybody who wore red was emo," Dez said, confused. "Not creepy black clothes and dark makeup like Kari and Paul wear."

"No."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

"So where did you tell her?" Dez asked. Enough with the twenty questions already! "It's not like you guys hang out all the time."

I sighed. "At the arcade on Thursday night. She was with her family and I ran into her there so we hung out for a bit."

"With Ally Dawson? Did you trip her again?" He said, cracking up.

"Not funny, dude," I glared.

"I'm kidding, I don't care what you do. As long as you don't go falling in love with her, am I right?" He joked.

"Not gonna happen. Besides, I didn't have anybody else to hang out with; you were the one who ditched me."

"Hey, you know I needed to play that fishing game to get enough tickets for the Thor and Jane set!"

"Which you already lost."

"No," he said. He reached behind him and pulled out the Dr. Jane Foster doll. "I have Jane. She would never leave me."

"Thor probably thought you stole her from him and he ran away," I told him, trying to keep a straight face.

Dez's eyes widened. "Oh, no...what have I done? I've made a terrible mistake." He jumped up and ran off. "Thor! I'm not with Jane! She's plastic, I would never kiss plastic! No offence to you or anything, you both look very good made of plastic. I have a girlfriend, anyway! Come back and be with your lover!"

I grinned and shook my head. Sometimes it amazed me how he managed to make it to Kindergarten, let alone to junior year.

Ally POV

"Why were you out with Austin Moon?" Trish exclaimed at my locker Monday morning. Quite loudly.

"Shh!" I said, covering her mouth with my hand.

"Sorry," she whispered, then talked in a normal voice. "But answer the question!"

"Don't get your panties in a twist, I was not on a date with Austin," I said. "I was out with the family at the arcade and I ran into him there. We played one game and that's it."

"One game can mean a lot."

"It didn't, relax. I have no intentions of becoming best friends with him," I told her. "He was rude half the time anyway. It's done, no more. Finito. Bye bye!" I slammed my locker shut and started towards my first class, which was Pre-Calc.

Trish hurried after me. "What the heck does finito mean?"

"'Finished' in Italian. Sorry, I go on rampages in Italian when I'm mad."

"You're Italian?" Trish asked me.

"My mom is. So half, I guess. My middle name is Valentina." I changed the subject. "Okay, so back to the Austin topic. We aren't dating, I didn't go on a date with him, it was nothing. Okay?"

"Alright, alright, I believe you," she said. "So, the homecoming dance is next week."

"What day is that again?"

"November 9th."

"I'm not going," I told her. "I'm visiting my dad that weekend."

"Liar."

"I'm serious!" I exclaimed. "It's my weekend to see him."

"You saw him last weekend," Trish pointed out. Damn it, she had me.

I sighed. "Oh, fine, I'm not going to see him. But I don't have a date, and I hardly know anyone at the school still, so therefore, I have no reason to go."

"You can come with Dylan and I! We don't have dates either. We can all go stag."

"Together? That's not really stag, then, is it?" I asked.

"You know what I mean," she replied. "Come on, Ally, it will be fun. You get to wear a pretty dress and high heels and do your hair all nice!"

"Yay," I replied sarcastically. "Because my purpose in life is to dress like that on a daily basis."

"You're going, whether you like it or not. You need to get out and do things. I will personally come to your house and drag you out by your hair; it's long enough for me to do it at almost a three foot distance."

"If I say I'll think about it, will you let me think about it?"

"No."

"Fine, then no."

"Okay, yes, you can think about it!" she sighed in defeat. She threw her arms around me. "This is so exciting!"

I plastered a smile on my face before she hurried off to her class. I trudged into my classroom, dropping my bag by my desk and throwing my books on top. The teacher, Mr. Bartley, gave me a stern look as I did so. I felt like flipping him off, but I decided against it; that would have resulted in a detention from me and a really long angry lecture from my mother in Italian when I got home.

The bell rung, and everyone found their seats. "Alright, get out last night's assignment and pass it forward. After that-" Mr. Bartley pointed to an equation he had written on the board. "Figure this out on your own."

The class groaned, but did as they were asked. You could hear everyone's papers rustling as they were passed from the back up to the front. I grabbed my pencil and half heartedly attempted the equation.

I heard a 'psst' from beside me. I pointedly ignored it, but it came again, so I glanced over to my right to see a boy in the row beside me. "Do you have a pencil I can borrow? I left my pencil case in my locker which is on the other end of the school, and I have no desire to get detention first period," he said. I think his name was Kyler. He seemed nice enough, in the five weeks I had been at the school.

I sighed and dug out another pencil, handing it over to him.

He grinned. "Pink sparkles. My favourite. You should maybe consider giving one to Mr. Bartley; he could use a little sparkle in his life. Thanks, I owe you."

"It's a pencil, dude."

Kyler shrugged. "It's a sparkly pink one. It deserves to be given something in return."

I couldn't help it; I smiled at him before going back to my work. A few minutes later, Mr. Bartley said, "Pencils down. Miss James, let's hear you answer."

A small blonde near the front perked up. "X equals negative 4 over 5 to the power of 8."

"Mmm, nope. Better figure it out what you're doing wrong, Miss James, or you'll really be struggling on this test next week." She sagged in annoyance. Or embarrassment. "Miss Dawson, what did you have?"

Great. I hated being called on. "X equals 9x subtract 3 over x times x cubed plus 5."

He wrote the answer on the board. "Good. Everybody else get that?" About a third of the class raised their hands. Mr. Bartley sighed. "We've been doing this stuff for two weeks now, I'd expect all of you to be understanding this. Remember to ask for extra help if you need it."

The rest of the class went by painfully slow, as usual, and when the bell rang, I thankfully had no homework. Everyone hurried to the door, but Kyler hung back to give me my pencil.

"Thanks again," he said, handing it over.

"No problem," I replied.

"So…I guess I'll see you around?"

I was shocked for a second before I said, "Uh, sure."

He grinned. "Cool. Later, Ally." He left the room.

Well. That was a first.
