Ally POV

"You went to Austin's house after Homecoming?" Trish shrieked in the hallway at school on Monday morning.

"Shut up!" I said quietly, slapping my hand over her mouth.

"Ally, I thought you said you couldn't stand him," Trish said.

"Hey, I didn't beg to be taken to his house," I defended. "I was walking home and he drove up beside me. I just got in his truck and we went to his place so I could get cleaned up."

"You just got in his…" Trish ran her hands down her face. "Oh my god, girl, listen to yourself right now."

"What am I doing wrong?"

"Look, don't get me wrong, I love you. But, you were the one who said you couldn't stand Austin and that you were going to stay away from him at all costs."

"I never said that last part."

"You said something like that. Regardless," she continued. "Do you like him, or…?"

"God no!" I almost yelled. "We are just slowly becoming friends. Besides, he was actually nice about it," I said.

Trish stared at me. "Who are you?"

I hit her in the arm. "I'm still me, believe me. Don't worry; I'm not all chummy with him. Except his sister seems to like me."

"He has a sister?"

I nodded. "Two. She wanted me to stay for a movie."

"And did you?"

"Yeah. I told her I was going to go home but she insisted."

Trish sighed. "Well, at least they were nice to you because if they weren't...you don't want to know."

"I don't think I do." I pulled my bag higher up on my shoulder. "I gotta get to class. I'll see you later."

"Don't think this conversation is over!" She called as I walked down the hall towards math. "Dylan still has to have a say!"

"Neither of you have to have a say in anything," I grumbled to myself. "I do what I want."

***Page Break***

After math, I went out to the quad since I didn't have music class that day, which absolutely sucked; my teacher was out sick with the flu on short notice so there was no time to get a replacement for her.

Everyone was doing their own thing when I got out there. It was all the kids that either had spares, were on their breaks, or didn't feel like showing up to class. I walked past the smoking area and almost choked from the gross hazy air.

I found a spot on the grass against a tree and sat down, pulling my laptop out of my bag. My FaceSpace profile proved to be uninteresting as I scrolled through stupid ads and dumb statuses about relationship drama. I had a message from Kendall, though. It was just your standard email, asking how I was doing and that she missed me, and that I needed to visit her as soon as possible before she went psycho. I quickly replied to her before logging out and getting a start on my English paper.

I felt a hand on my shoulder ten minutes later, and I nearly jumped out of my skin. I ripped my headphones out of my ears and looked up to see Austin leaning against the tree.

"Hey," he said.

"Jesus, Austin, you scared the hell out of me," I snapped, pausing my music.

"I tried saying your name but you were too into your music," he said, sitting down across from me. "So I had to resort to other measures to get your attention."

"Uh huh," I said, going back to my laptop. "What do you want?"

"What are you doing?"

"Working on my English paper that I had to restart because you spilled your drink all over it," I said hotly. "Not by accident, by the way."

"You still aren't done that? That was like, a week ago," he replied.

"I have other things to do, you know; I'm not a complete loser."

"Hey, I didn't say you were a loser." He cleared his throat. "But, uh, yeah, sorry about the paper. I'm sure you worked hard on it."

"Yeah, I did!" I exclaimed, looking at him finally. "So why did you ruin my hard work? You don't see me throwing my drinks all over your work."

"It was an accident."

"My ass it was," I snapped.

"Okay, fine," he said, just as rudely. "One of my buddies dared me to do it, alright?"

"God, you're an asshole. Some buddy you've got there. You didn't have to follow through with the dare, you know. Did you even think of how it would affect me? Just so you could get that guy's approval?"

He was quiet for a minute before he sighed. "No, I didn't."

"Exactly." I started typing away. "You didn't think at all."

"Ally-"

"You can go now."

"But I want to stay," he said.

"And do what? Stare at me while I do my homework?"

"No, I'll eat my lunch," he said, pulling a sandwich out of his bag.

"You're on lunch?" I asked. "Lunch was an hour ago."

"Not mine," he said. He reached over and grabbed my iPod.

"Hey!" I protested, but he started scrolling through it, so I huffed in annoyance.

"Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Bon Jovi, Queen... Damn, you know your music," he said, sounding somewhat surprised.

"I like music, okay?"

"Clearly," he observed. "Wait, you like R5?"

"Yes. They're my favorite band, other than Fall Out Boy."

"I love R5," he grinned. "And Fall Out Boy is great, too."

"Seriously?" I asked. I tilted my head. "Actually, now that I think about it, you look a lot like Ross."

"I get that all the time," he replied, handing my iPod back to me. "But I don't see it. Kelsey thinks he could be my twin, but I don't think so at all."

"Huh," I said. "Well, you do. That's a compliment, by the way." The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them. Jeez, Ally, learn to keep your damn mouth shut.

He smiled. "Thanks."

"Sure," I squeaked.

We were quiet for a few minutes before he said, "So what are your plans for this weekend?"

"I'm at my dad's," I replied.

"In Miami?"

"Yep."

"Oh," he said. "Cool."

I looked at him over the top of my laptop before I shut it for the second time. "What?"

"Hmm? Nothing," Austin said.

"You want to say something, I can tell."

"No, I don't."

"Yes, you do. I wasn't born yesterday," I told him. I raised an eyebrow, waiting.

He sighed. "Fine. I was just seeing if you were busy. I though we could hang out."

"Me and you?" I spluttered. "Are you asking me out?"

"No," he said quickly. "No, no, no."

"What, your friends aren't good enough for you?"

"For your information, Dez is away at his grandparents, and-"

"And your other friends are busy, so I'm a last resort," I finished for him. "I feel so special."

"And my other friends are doing whatever the hell they want, but I want to hang out with you. You always assume the worst intentions with me, don't you?" Austin said angrily.

"Yeah, actually, I do."

"Did you not have any fun at all on Friday night?"

"I had fun; I just wasn't expecting you to want to hang out with me, of all people."

He shrugged. "Well, you can't, anyway, so you can relax." He stood up. "I'll see you around."

Before I could say anything else, he stalked off. I sat there in stunned silence for a minute. Why was he so mad? It's not like he wanted to hang out with me that badly, was it?

"Ally!"

I turned around in the parking lot on my way to my car. It was after the last bell, so everyone was rushing out of the school to get home. It was Dez who was calling me.

"Dez? Um, what are you doing?" I asked, confused.

"You have to hang out with Austin this weekend," he said.

I sighed and dropped my hands to my side. "Why? I'm at my dad's this weekend, Dez. I hardly ever see him as it is."

"Just please do me a favour and hang out with him. He's all alone this weekend," Dez told me.

"So? Being home alone is the best."

"Ally-"

"Dez, I can't. My dad lives in Miami!" I pulled my keys out of my bag. "I'm sorry."

Dez looked around before he grabbed my arm and pulled me out of earshot of the other students. "Look, I wouldn't be asking you if it wasn't important."

"Why can't you just tell me why it's so important that I spend time with him?"

"You just have to trust me on this." Dez's eyes pleaded with me. "Please."

I looked at him before I groaned. "Ugh, fine! I'll just go to my dad's at a later time."

He looked relieved. "Thank you, Ally." He handed me a phone number. "It's Austin's number. Call him."

"Yeah, yeah," I said. "I've got to go; Bryce is waiting for me at the car."

When I got to my car, I was surprised to find Claudia there, and not Bryce. She looked as beautiful as always in a white peplum and green strappy heels. Her hair was curled.

"Where's Bryce?" I asked her, going to the driver's side.

"He has football practice," she said. "And I need a ride home."

I sighed. "Fine, get in."

"We have to stop at the Starbucks on the corner of Mason and Kingston," she said as I drove out of the parking lot. "I need a drink."

"Of course you do," I muttered. "Why do you just stop at Crystal's? It's within walking distance of the house."

"Because I like Starbucks better," Claudia replied hotly. "Jeez, it's not like you're doing anything later anyway that you have to be back for."

I glanced at her as I drove. "How do you know?"

"Because you're you."

"Oh, I'm so hurt," I replied sarcastically. "Don't you have anything better to do than put me down?"

"No, not really," she said. We were quiet for a few minutes before she spoke again. "So…what was that at Homecoming?"

"What?"

"Who dumped milk all over you?"

"I don't know," I replied.

"I'm surprised you aren't blaming me for it."

I scoffed. "I saw you in the crowd, Claudia; you were pissed when you didn't win. Someone rigged that so I would win, so they could get me up there to dump sour milk on me."

"That's devious, but now I'm glad I didn't win. That could have been me," she said. She shuddered. "I cringe at the thought."

I rolled my eyes and pulled into the parking lot at Starbucks. As we walked across it towards the building, Claudia gasped as whispered, "Get down!"

"What the-" She pulled me down behind a random van before I could finish. "What the hell are you doing?"

"It's Austin," she said.

"So?"

"He's with some girl!"

"It's probably his older sister," I told her, rolling my eyes.

She looked at me. "He has a sister? How did you know he had a sister?"

"He has two."

"How the hell do you know that?"

"Because he brought me to his house after Homecoming so I could clean up."

Her eyes bugged out of her head. "You did WHAT!?"

"Look, can we not talk about this now?" I snapped at her quietly.

We both looked out from beside the van and saw Austin walking out of the Starbucks with a girl…and it wasn't Kelsey.

"Well?" Claudia prompted.

"Yeah, that's not his sister," I replied.

"Are you sure?"

I looked at her. "Did you not hear anything I just said? I've seen his sister, and first of all, that girl isn't blonde. Second of all, she's too tall to be his sister."

"Great," Claudia moaned. "Now I've got competition."

"Oh, just because he's with a girl doesn't mean anything," I told her. "Maybe it's his cousin."

"One way to find out," she said. She started moving behind vehicles, following them.

"Claudia!" I hissed from my spot.

She turned to look at me. "Are you coming or not?"

"I thought you wanted your drink," I said.

"That can wait," she said. "Let's go, Dawson."

I hesitated and sighed before hurrying after her. "This is wrong to be spying on him."

"You think I give a shit?" she said. "Do you know anything about me?"

"It's no wonder he doesn't like you."

Austin and the mystery girl were heading towards Austin's truck now, so Claudia and I ducked behind a bush to get a better view. "Can you hear what they're saying?" she asked.

"No, they're too far away," I said. Thankfully, I was wearing a black t-shirt and dark blue skinny jeans that day, so I was blending in better to the foliage. Claudia on the other hand, was a little more obvious in white. Thankfully, Austin and the girl weren't facing our direction.

"Oh my god," she said as she grabbed my arm. "They just hugged."

"Yeah, I can see that," I said. "Let go of my arm; your nails are like razors."

She rolled her eyes but let go. "Oh, great, now they're leaving." Sure enough, the two of them got in Austin's truck and drove off.

When they were gone, Claudia and I stood up and came out from behind the bush. "That wasn't what I wanted to see today," she said.

"I'm sure it's nothing," I told her. "Relax. Now let's go get coffee."

She sighed and trudged after me towards the shop. Personally, I thought Claudia was overreacting. He was allowed to be friends with girls. I mean, I'm sure it was just one of his friends, or another family member. Right?

Right?

A/N: I really liked this chapter. I thought it showed more growth in Ally's relationship with Austin and Claudia. Hope you thought so, too! Thoughts? Leave a review and let me know! PM me if you have any questions you want me to answer personally because I can't reply on the reviews :/

I decided to mention R5 because I thought it would be funny since Ross Lynch plays Austin, and he's in R5, so it's like they're the same person...and I'm rambling again so I'll just stop hahaha.

Btw, I'm going to my second R5 concert this coming Saturday in Winnipeg, with VIP again! Who is going? Let me know so I can look for you! :)
