MONDAY FEBRUARY 16TH 2009
GIBBS/DINOZZO HOUSE 10: PM
Tony and Gibbs were in the bedroom reading books when the phone rang. "Dinozzo." Tony said.
"Dad. Sorry to call so late." Samantha said a hint of worry in her voice.
"No Sammie it's ok. What's wrong?" Tony asked.
"Dad it's Gracie. She's running a high fever. I thought she was over that cold." Samantha said.
"Sammie. How high?" Tony asked throwing the covers off and sitting on the edge of the bed.
"I took it 20 minutes ago and it was 102 want me to take it again?" Samantha asked.
"Yes. And while you do me and Jet will be making our way over there." Tony said standing and pulling pants out of the closet for both him and Gibbs.
"K. Are you sure dad?" Samantha asked unsure.
"We'll be there in 20 minutes. Well make that 10. Jet is driving." Tony said earning a glare from his bed partner.
"Ok. See you in a few." Samantha said.
Tony hung up and turned to Gibbs who was pulling his old sweatshirt over his head. "How high?" Gibbs asked.
"102 she's gonna check it again when we get there." Tony said grabbing his wallet.
"Let's go." Gibbs said walking out of the bedroom.
SAMANTHA'S APARTMENT
Tony and Jethro walked into the apartment and into Gracie's bedroom. "Hey." Tony said softly.
"Hey. I just took it 103.3 ." Samantha said.
"Ok. Let's do this. Let's wait a half hour and then take it again. If it goes up we'll take her to the hospital." Gibbs said behind Tony.
"Ok. She's been awake off and on all night." Samantha said looking at her daughter again.
Tony crawled on the bed beside Gracie and wrapped his arm over her. "Her skin is hot to the touch." Tony said.
'Gampy?" Gracie asked sleepy in her voice.
"Hey babygirl. Mommy tells me you don't feel good." Tony said.
"I don't." Gracie said cuddling up to her Grandpa.
"Sam when did she start becoming lethargic?" Gibbs asked.
"I noticed it this morning before work. Thought she felt a little warm but didn't put no credence to it. God I must be the worst mother." Samantha said sitting down on a couch.
"No. Trust me you're not. You just overlooked something that hell I overlooked it when she was with us at the house last night." Gibbs said.
Tony came out carrying Gracie in his arms. "Get your car keys Jet we're going to the hospital. Call Ducky on the way Sammie. Her fever spiked she was talking one minute and I believe passed out." Tony said. Everyone got into gear and rushed to the hospital.
BETHESDA HOSPITAL.
Exam Room
Gracie was laying on a gurney in the ER department. Samantha Tony and Gibbs were all standing around her. "Hi I'm doctor Larson I see here we have a sick 5 Year old girl." He said.
"Jethro Gibbs my partner Tony Dinozzo our daughter Samantha and our granddaughter Gracie." Gibbs said.
"Alrighty. What seems to be the problem." The doctor asked.
"She was sick last week with a cold. I assumed she had gotten over it and then last night she told me she didn't feel good. Her fever spiked earlier tonight." Samantha said.
"Has she had any lung problems in her infancy?" The doctor asked. Ducky came in bout that time.
"I can answer that. She had a bronchitis when she was 6 months old." Ducky said.
"And who are you?" Dr, Larson asked.
"Dr Donald Mallard. I've taken care of this sweet angel since she was just born." Ducky said. "Uncle Duck!" Gracie said.
"Hey Baby Gracie lay down and let Dr, Larson take a look at you." Ducky said.
"Ok." Gracie said laying back down looking at her Mommy. Doctor Larson listened to Gracie's lungs and found congestion.
"I hate to tell you this but I do believe she has gotten some Pneumonia in her left lung. So I want to get a ct of the Lungs. And see where we go from there." Dr, Larson said. Everyone nodded.
"Ok. Let's set up Gracie here with an IV." Dr, Larson said.
"Ok." The sweet nurse said.
The nurse put the IV line in and Gracie never flinched. "Wow you're so brave." The nurse said.
"She had good teachers." Samantha said..
"She sure did." Ducky said wrapping his arm around Samantha's shoulders.
AN HOUR LATER
Samantha and Tony were watching Gracie sleep. "You ok?" Tony asked quietly.
"Yeah. Just tired." Samantha said.
"I know." Tony said.
"You guys can go home. Someone has to lead the team." Samantha said at Gibbs.
"Yeah. We'll go. Call us if anything should come up." Gibbs said standing up and kissing Gracie on the head softly. He turned to kiss Samantha and she smiled.
"I will." Samantha said kissing his cheek.
"Jet I don't feel right about leaving." Tony said.
"Tony you can't do nothing sitting here. Besides I need you at work later." Gibbs said.
"Daddy? Go home and get some rest. If nothing changes before tomorrow afternoon you can come and see her on your lunch break." Samantha said rubbing Tony's shoulder.
"K. You'll be fine here by yourself?" Tony asked.
"She won't be by herself. I brought along some reinforcements." Ducky said.
"Gerald good to see you again man." Tony said shaking Gerald's hand.
"Same here. Wish it was under better circumstances." Gerald said casting a look at the sleeping child.
"So now that Gerald is gonna stay with Samantha you two can go home and rest." Ducky said.
"But Duck..." Tony was gonna protest when Samantha spoke.
"Daddy go home. Set your alarm for 9 am on your phone cause I will cal and let you know what they tell me through the night." Samantha said kissing his cheek.
"Ok. Take care of em Gerald." Tony said on the way out.
"Will do man. Will do." Gerald said sitting down on the couch next to Samantha.
"So how are you doing?" He asked.
"Tired. Would you mind if I just used your lap as a pillow and take a short nap. They gave her medicine to help her sleep." Samantha said.
"Absolutely. Use away I would be honored." Gerald said. Ducky smiled looking through the doorway of the room. His lover and Samantha always got a long great. Probably cause they both came from single parent homes and were loners.

9: AM
CRIME SCENE
Tony strolled up sun glasses on when Kate looked up. "Bad night Tony?" She teased.
"One could say that." Tony said squinting.
"What have we got." Gibbs asked. Kate explained the situation.
"So you got a bad hangover Dinozzo?" Tim asked teasingly.
"McGee if I was you. I'd do your job and not make much of this." Gibbs said tersely.
"Yes Boss." McGee said.
"Come Dinozzo let's go question the desk clerk." Gibbs said. Once they had left Ducky and Palmer were picking the body up and laying it on a body bag.
"What's wrong with Gibbs I wonder." Kate said.
"Long night." Ducky said.
NOON
BETHESDA HOSPITAL.
Samantha was reading a book when a nurse came in and checked on Gracie's IV. "Where's your boyfriend?" The nurse asked.
"Oh you mean Gerald. He's not my boyfriend. He went home to check on his Partner's mother." Samantha said.
"Figures all the good ones are either Gay or Married." The nurse said smiling.
"My dad is Gay. Him and his partner have been together for 6 going 7 on years." Samantha said smiling.
"Wow. My last relationship lasted maybe 6 months." The nurse said.
"Mine was shorter cause the guy decided to date someone from online." Samantha said.
"Oh that ass." The nurse said causing Samantha to laugh.
"How is she doing?" Gerald asked coming back in.
"How was Lillian?" Samantha asked.
"Telling Robert not to move her brassiere." Gerald said.
"This little girl has a lot of congestion in her left Lung. Doctor is probably gonna wanna keep her over night." The nurse said.
"Ok. Thanks." Samantha said.
"Talked to Ducky. Why don't you call your dad." Gerald said.
"Did something happen?" Samantha asked.
"Just call your dad." Gerald said.
"Ok. You stay here I'll walk outside and call." Samantha said.
NCIS
Tony was still reeling from his talk with Renny Grant. He was sitting at his desk looking at his computer holding 2 cell phones when his rung he scrambled to pick it up. "Dinozzo." He said.
"You ok?" Samantha asked.
"Hey you. I thought you were gonna call at 9 this morning." Tony said leaning on his desk.
"Would you believe I fell asleep right after you left at 1 and slept til 10." Samantha asked.
"Wow. I know you looked tired." Tony said as Kate and Tim came in.
"No doctor has come in. But the nurse said that the ct they did at 11 still showed a lot of fluid. She said the doctor will most likely keep her over night on IV fluids." Samantha said.
"Ok. Call me after while ok?" Tony asked.
"Will do. Daddy whatever happened can't be so bad." Samantha said.
"Maybe not." Tony said hanging up.
Gibbs came in as McGee said something. "Your drinking buddy Dinozzo. Setting up your next spring break?" McGee asked Tony making light of his phone call.
"I gotta get some air." Tony said standing up and going for the elevator.
"I don't know what your damn problem is Tim but you need to stop. For both your information Tony and I spent the better part of the night at the hospital." Gibbs said.
"What happened?" Kate asked worried.
"Gracie got a fever of 104 last night late. We rushed her to Emergency room where they told us she has a bad case of Pneumonia." Gibbs said.
"Poor Gracie. Is Samantha with her?" Kate asked.
"Yes been there the whole night. So Agent McGee if you're done making jokes. How about finding that money and let's see if we can help Dinozzo fix this mistake so we can be with our girls." Gibbs said sitting down.
6:PM
BETHESDA HOSPITAL.
Tony pulled up to the front door of the hospital and sighed. When he walked into the Pediatric floor he was greeted with a hyper Abby sitting beside Kate . "Hey." Tony said.
"We just came from see her." Kate said.
"Yeah. I'm gonna go stay for a while." Tony said heading for the double door.
"Tony. I'm sorry for all the teasing." Kate said hugging him.
"It's fine. It wasn't you I was irritated with." Tony said softly.
"Tim shouldn't of gone as far as he did." Kate said stepping back.
"But he did. But there is something else there that I won't divulge." Tony said.
"Ok. If you need anything call us." Kate said hugging him once more.
"Bye Tony." Abby said hugging him and kissing his cheek.
"Bye Abs." Tony said watching them enter the elevator and leaving. Tony walked into Gracie's room to find Gracie sitting up being fed Apple Sauce by Jethro.
"Grampy." She said excited.
"Hey babygirl." Tony said coming over and hugging her.
"How are you feeling?" Tony asked.
"My stomach doesn't feel good and my throat hurts from coughing so much." Gracie said.
"Stomach will feel better as soon as you get off the medicines. " Tony said.
"I know Grampy." Gracie said.
"Where's Mommy?" Tony asked.
"She went downstairs for some food herself. I pleaded to feed mutchkin here." Gibbs said putting a spoonful of Apple Sauce in Gracie's mouth.
"Pleaded huh?" Tony asked teasingly.
"Well I didn't have to get on my knees." Gibbs said.
"Good thing." Tony said leaning over the bed for quick kiss.
"Going to go check on her." Tony said.
CAFETERIA
Samantha was drinking coffee and eating a bagel when she noticed her dad. "Good I don't have to force you to eat." Tony said sitting down.
"Nope you don't. I take it you closed the case." Samantha said.
"Yeah. Not how I wanted it to end tho." Tony said.
"Some cases are like that. Let me guess Remy Grant left on a plane to Carribean?" Samantha asked.
"How'd you know?" Tony asked.
"Gibbs told me. You may have said you missed him but Gibbs knows you didn't." Samantha said.
"Gawd Sammie wish you had been there. You coulda talked some sense into me." Tony said.
"I hear you did fine. I also heard that McGee wouldn't let up." Samantha said.
"Yeah." Tony said.
"Dad. You're not that man you were before you met Gibbs." Samantha said.
"I know. It's just hard to not show a persona at work." Tony said.
"Yeah I know. So I take it you went and checked on our Princess." Samantha said.
"Yes poppa was feeding her Applesauce." Tony said.
"Come on Grandpa let's go spend time with her. Before you leave to go home." Samantha said getting up.
9:PM
GRACIE'S HOSPITAL ROOM
Samantha smirked seeing her dad curled up beside Gracie on the bed. "He made a good team leader today." Gibbs said.
"I know. Wish I been there to see it." Samantha sighed draping a blanket over Tony.
"Me too. Please tell me what happened while I was on my sabbatical." Gibbs said.
"It was hard. No denying that. Gracie was fixing to turn 2 I was still having problems getting back on my feet." Samantha said delving into the past with Gibbs. Neither noticed Tony laying awake listening and he didn't want em to.
