A tan, bony wrist, adept in movement, flicked back towards her face.

Thick trails of liquid sugar dripped down her lanky arms as she bit into the tender flesh of a fruit from a mysterious flowering plant called shiori yosei[1].

It was not her acquisition of it that was most strange, though finding this rare fruit was quite the accomplishment for any man.

It was her desire that was thought to be unimaginable by some and abhorrent by others.

Her constant need to have it was what set her apart. She would fight anyone for it, tooth and nail.

Not on occasion, but every waking moment, she would spend finding this fruit again and again until all the times she spent holding it and eating it, merged together into one long stream of nostalgia.

She was never full, never tired. And when she couldn't have that one thing she wanted, she fell into a state of incorrigible melancholy, only to be subdued when she set eyes on her precious once more. She was addicted, there was no doubt about it.

I guess you could say she got her appetite from her parents. But her choice in food more closely resembled her father's and brother's. Even that ronin indulged in gluttony from time to time.

But unlike her father and her brother, she didn't always know what she thought was worth eating. She made a habit of eating what was available and what everyone (most notably her pink-kimono clad mother) thought was best for her instead of what really satisfied her tastes.

And yet, somehow her taste for this fruit had always been there. Even when she didn't know of its strange name, its near-white appearance or its whimsy fragrance. Even before its smooth, tender skin ever met her lips…

she knew that she had to find it.

NOTES: While this is my first published piece of fanfiction I'm still a student so if I'm grammatically incorrect and I haven't made it clear that I've purposefully broken the rules of grammar feel free to offer LOTS of constructive criticism. The same goes for any plot holes and other mistakes I may make throughout this series. Also, I purposefully tried not to mention any recognizable characters, OCs and original alike. This will make so much more sense later, I promise! This first part has some symbolism. If you squint you might even get what I'm insinuating from the get-go.

[1] - shiroi yosei - white fairy -OR- white spirit
