Chapter 15
A/N Marching band season is finally over! Guess who will have time to write now? This girl! (Bailey has been done for awhile now but we will finally both have our schedules more free to write.) B- except for that whole im super busy with dance this month and next month thing haha
EchoPatronus3: Thanks for the review! We promise we will update every Monday. It's been a stretch sometimes but we always manage to get it done.
Bienvenue a Bikini Bottom: I don't know about Bailey, but I have always loved the Death Eaters. That was probably one of the reasons we came up with this story. It was so much fun for me to write with Bellatrix last chapter.
Amar 2: We know the backstory if you would like to know. Voldemort doesn't understand love because he was conceived under the effects of a love potion, so he can't truly love anyone. Thats why Dumbledore is always like "love is the best bla bla bla" because Voldemort doesn't understand it. When Snape said he didn't love Lily anymore, Voldemort accepted it right way because he just sees black and white to love, no shades of gray at all.
Christine Dalen: Lol we definitely looked on the Harry Potter wiki to make sure we had the right vision of Hogwarts for all you guys to read. And even though we didn't make it to semi's, we still definitely created a rEVOLution :). Great job this season!
EchoPatronus3: Thanks for the follow!
blackphoenix23: Thanks for the follow/favorite!
Mage-Yewoqirife: Thanks for the follow!
bookivore: Thanks for the follow!
The sound of many students cheerfully walking down the halls of the dungeon talking and laughing with their friends could be heard all the way to Severus' classroom as he awaited the arrival of his first class of the year. It was a class of 4th year Gryffindors and Slytherins. Snape sat at his desk, waiting, as the students slowly made their way into the classroom and sat in their various desks. Once the class had become relatively silent, Severu stood.
He started class by taking the roll call, recognizing a last name here and there in the Slytherins and pretty much ignoring the Gryffindors. The class remained silent the entire time. This, Severus knew, could either be because he was new and therefore the students were unsure how he would react to various things or, more likely, they had heard of him becoming a Death Eater and his presence was not well liked throughout the class.
Severus set the parchment with the class' names on it on his desk and then returned to the front of the room. He swept his eyes around at the students as he began the lesson.
"Welcome to 4th year Potions, I am Professor Snape." A boy in the third row with blonde hair looked at Severus very intently, and after a moment he knew why. It was Ethan Rosier, Even Rosier's son. Even was also in Voldemort's inner circle with Severus. It was then that Severus realized that no matter where he was or what he was doing, he would have to always be playing his part. He never knew who might be watching him.
Severus continued on with his lesson, introducing the potion, and explaining the directions which he then wrote on the board. He gave them a fairly difficult potion, partly to see their abilities and partly the scare them. He was a bit unfair towards the Gryffindors and favored the Slytherins as well, which wasn't very difficult. He had been a Slytherin after all and never did like the Gryffindors. Well, except for one Gryffindor…
Severus was thrown back into focus as a thick, purple fog slowly began to fill the room. It was coming from a Gryffindor table in the back. He made his way to the back of the room, waving his wand as he went to evaporate the fog and stopped in front of the table.
"Why," He asked, glaring at girl whose cauldron was still producing an awful odor, "would you be foolish enough to begin stirring before adding a fifth leech? Were my direction unclear?"
"N-no Sir." The bell then rang and most of the other students bolted from the room. Severus cleared the cauldron of the grey goop that was beginning to harden in the cauldron and turned away from the girl who then quickly cleared up her stuff and ran away as well. Severus then sat at his desk and waited for his next class.
"How was that for playing the part?" He said to himself bitterly.
The girl had the exact color or Lily's green eyes.
The 2nd year Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws began to fill the room, wrinkling their noses at the smell that was still in the air of the dungeon. Severus stood up again and took roll.
"Welcome to 2nd year Potions, I am Professor Snape."
It had been, Severus decided, a very long day. He had never given much thought to a teachers point of view when he was a student at Hogwarts. And these students were, in his opinion, lagging behind in where they should be for what they can correctly create in Potions. Confused first years was understandable, though he did scold them for not picking up their textbook before coming to class, but his 3rd year class of the day made up of Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors were completely clueless when it came to the properties of most of their ingredients in their basic Potion kit. They would be learning it soon Severus decided. He may not be a qualified teacher by any means but he could not accept subpar knowledge of his subject.
Lunch and dinner had been fine, though Severus suspected he would not be making lots of friends anytime soon. That was not why he was here though, he was here to protect his best friend, no matter what it took. He could handle snarky students and unfriendly fellow professors if it meant that she and her family would remain safe.
After dinner Severus went back to his office rather than socializing with the other professors. Besides, he had important things to do. He started by finishing his unpacking which he had never really gotten around to the day before. He didn't have much to decorate it with, he hadn't brought anything and he wasn't that much of a decorator anyways. The dark and dingy walls didn't bother him anyways.
He set the box of letters from Lily next to his bed and decided it had been an acceptable amount of time since her last letter that he could reply, and he had plenty to say. The last two days had been quite eventful.
Lily,
You were right, I am quite busy as a teacher now, I never realized how much work being a teacher to all of these children is! So far, the job is going pretty well though. I'm hopefully going to be able to catch them up to where they should be and teach them as much as I can. My closest confidence here is still Dumbledore but that's okay with me, he gave me a second chance. It will probably take some time for the other professors to give me one as well.
How are you doing? I'm sure being confined to just one place can't be the most fun for any of you. I hope you are feeling alright though, along with James and Harry. How is Harry? Still walking around and exploring everything?
I don't have much information from Dumbledore as either, but its probably best that way. I am sorry about the Prewetts as well. I hope we can do something very soon and fix everything that we can.
Severus
Severus sealed the letter and wrote Lily's name on the outside. He then took the shortcut he knew to the owlery to use one of the school owls to deliver his letter. He watched the owl fly over the forest before he couldn't see it any more before making his way back to his office and sleeping quarters. Once back, he went right to bed. He was exhausted from the long day.
