You bolted down the dark alleyways, frantically searching among the wet, disgusting trash piles. It's so dark, why the hell does it have to be SO DARK?! You were almost sobbing now as you desperately ran up and down the dank streets, rain soaking your filthy jacket. You stopped, sagging against the corner of a building as your legs shook. "ALLEN! ALLEN WHERE ARE YOU?!" Blinking and rubbing water out of your eyes, you squinted at the orange streetlight flickering pathetically next to the road.
A muted bang sounded off to your right and you jerkily shoved off the wall, sprinting in the direction of the noise. Eyes straining, you walked quickly down the new, even filthier ally. "Allen?" you called hopefully. Oh God, PLEASE be here... A shaky gasp came from your left. "(Y-Y/n)?" You turned in the direction of the voice, dropped to your knees, and began pulling bags of garbage away from the slimy brick building and half covered figure. Finally, your fingers brushed against solid, wet leather.
"Allen!" Shakily hooking your hands under Allen's arms, you dragged him as far as you possibly could away from the wall. Tears still leaking from your eyes, you set him down gently and pulled your phone out of your pocket. You tried turning it on. God Damn it! It's dead! You rubbed your face with your left hand before shoving the phone back into your pocket angrily. You took a deep breath as you moved around Allen to examine his injured form.
He jerked as your fingers traced over his face gingerly. "H-hey doll... I thought you never wanted to * gasp!* s-see me again.." Tears continued to leak out of the corners of your eyes. "Stop talking Allen." He chuckled darkly. "Why? You do hate me, right?" You shook your head furiously as you pulled his jacket away from his chest. "Don't be stupid. I could never hate you-" You froze as your hands brushed over a jagged hole in Allen's shirt. He grunted in pain and you shakily pulled your hand back into the small amount of light that you had. Horror crashed over you, almost suffocatingly. Blood. Too much blood.
You couldn't stop the sobs that started to gurgle painfully out of your throat. Yanking off your coat, you pulled your semi dry t-shirt off over your head. Oh God, Oh God, Oh God... Allen laughed again miserably and tilted his head to look at you from his position on the wet asphalt. "And here I was thinking I'd never get to see you naked..." You choked on a laugh, pulling your coat back on, as your tears started to flow faster. "Shut up Allen." He grinned for a second, but couldn't hold in his gasp, followed by an agonized moan as you pressed your shirt to his injured chest. When he spoke again, his words were faint. "So... you don't... hate me?" You shook your head, dragging your hand across your blurry eyes. "N-never." Allen watched you, dull red eyes flashing before they filled with relief.
He sighed and brought one of his hands up to rest on your own. "Good... then at least I can... die happy." You inhaled sharply. "Don't even say that! You are not going to die! I won't-" "Shh, shhhhh... It's okay babe... Don't panic." Your frame shook, terrified at what he was implying. You opened your mouth to object again but he shushed you. Gently, he reached up and cradled your head with the palms of his hands, pulling you down until you faces where almost touching. His eyes looked into yours hopefully. "Can I kiss you?"
You froze. But only for a second. You moved forward, pressing your lips together tenderly. The only source of warmth in this rainy hell. You wished it could have lasted forever. Allen smiled as you pulled away. "Thank you... (Y/n)?..." You shivered. "What?" He took a deep, slightly gurgled breath. "I-I, love-..." His eyes glazed over. Horrifyingly slowly, they drifted close.
You only felt cold now. Shivering you reached out to clutch at Allen's clothes. No. No, this can't be happening... "No." you whispered, terrified and alone for the second time in your life. "No, please no." Frantically, you shook him. "Please! No, Allen! You can't leave me! I'm sorry! Please don't go!" You looked to the end of the ally desperately. "Please! Somebody help! PLEASE, WE NEED HELP!" Sobbing brokenly you held tight to Allen's now lifeless form in the run down, wet, and filthy ally way. Alone.
Again.
"PLEASE! ANYBODY, GOD PLEASE! HELP ME!"
-...-
Gasping, you sat bolt upright in the tangle of sheets around you. You felt sweat running down your back, yet you still couldn't stop shivering. Oh God, where am I? Panting, you looked at the walls of the bedroom. Alfred's room. So it was still Saturday night. You were safe. Allen was still alive. It was all just a dream. But... you dropped your head into your arms resting against your knees which you had pulled up to your chest. ..why am I still so scared? Taking a deep breath, you felt the first tear trace it's way delicately down your cheek. It was followed by another. After a minute, you were crying deep, gut wrenching sobs. And you couldn't stop. S-somebody help me...
You jumped as your phone went off on the nightstand next to you, signaling that you had a text. Still crying, you opened your phone to read it.
Is everything okay?
-Allen
In a flash, you had his number dialed. He picked up on the first ring. "What's wrong? Did somebody hurt you, beautiful? Do you need me to come and get you?" The serious concern in his voice soothed you and you sighed, your sobs beginning to slow. "N-no. I'm safe. It was just a b-bad dream... I-I'm okay." You felt some of the tension leave his voice and he exhaled quietly. "Where are you right now?" You hiccuped. "Mattie's house..." Allen grunted. "Safest place you could be besides with me, I guess..." The line was silent for a while. You didn't mind though... all you wanted was to know he was there. And Allen understood.
He seemed hesitant when he spoke again. "Do you want to tell me about your dream?" You shook your head before realizing that he wouldn't be able to see you. "N-no.. I don't want to think about it." "That's okay babe, you don't have to." he responded reassuringly.
After another 10 minutes of Allen's quiet murmuring and comforting tones, you were finally able to stop crying. Feeling relieved, you wiped the salty, tear residue off your face. You yawned. "What time is it?" You heard Allen pull the phone away from his face momentarily. "2:30... do you want to back to sleep, baby doll? You sound tired..." You yawned again. "Yeah..." He continued. "Do you think that you're gonna be okay now?" You smiled. "I am. Thank you Allen, for making me feel better." He chuckled happily. "Anytime doll. Talk to you tomorrow? I want to know how you're feeling." You nodded. "Of course I'll let you know... Good night Allen.." "Good night, (Y/n). Sweet dreams."
The phone clicked quietly as Allen hung up. You placed it back down onto the nightstand before laying back down on the bed. Well... that's better. It's nice that Allen was- You slowed as your thoughts finally caught up with what had just happened. You felt a blush burn it's way across your face. Why does Allen's comfort mean that much to me? Surely I don't like him that much... do I? And what would I do if he ever did...You shivered and pulled the blankets closer to yourself. No. (Y/n),don't you think about this now. You need sleep. You can sort all of this out in the morning. So, Go. To. Sleep.
In spite of your promise to yourself, you didn't fall back asleep for a long time. And when you finally did, your dreams were consumed with soft, ruddy brown hair, a loud, boisterous laugh, and beautiful, blood red eyes.
Damn it all.
