Chapter 7: Act 1:
On Stage:
The lights went dim signaling the start of the play. The curtains open but it was dark on stage. Then a single light from a candle appeared. The light broaden and there stand Nekozawa-Senpai.
"There was once a time that everyone knew peace in our beloved country of France, but no more. It has almost been one hundred years since we had been at war with the tyrannical English dogs. We have tried our hardest, but they overpower us one to thousand. It seems that we will be doomed to be slaves at the end of this war, for our country's army morale is below lit, and our people our starving, good men have been killed, and families have been separated. Oh mighty God! Please send us someone, anyone, who will turn this war around and lead us onward to freedom. And please let that savior come soon!" he acted so dramatically with despair and loss of hope.
I don't know much about plays, but that was a pretty good way to start it. Everyone who is going to be in the first scene was able to change into their costumes and were ready to go out on stage and break a leg just after Nekozawa-Senpai gets off stage. Which was now.
Kyoya-Senpai, and Renge-Chan went on stage after Kyoya-Senpai's bodyguards changed the background from the projector room from behind the audience. They got into place as the lights lit up to reveal the background of a rustic French village with Renge-Chan in position to sweep with a broom, while Kyoya-Senpai was holding a hoe.
Doremy Village Scene:
"Dear?" Renge, playing Joan's mother, said. "Yes what is it?" Kyoya-Senpai, playing Joan's Father said. "Has there been any news about the war?" she asked. "What did you expect? The England are conquering more of France. Thanks to that, the profits from our crops and livestock have greatly suffered." he said. I don't remember that line in the rehearsal, then again the he may be making lines up as he goes along to get the audience more interested, or perhaps he's just being 'Kyoya-Senpai'.
"Also have you seen Joan yet?" Renge asked. "She was tending the flock the last time I checked?" he answered. Then I came on stage in my French peasant girl costume. The wig I was wearing looked like what my hair looked like before the gum in the hair prank. I was carrying a basket with a bible in it.
"Oh there you are dear. Where are you off to now?" Renge asked. "I'm off to the church to pray to the Lord and I'll meet Louis later." I answered. "Any chance of wedding bells in the future?" she hopefully asked. "Oh mother, it's nothing like that, I'm just praying for those suffering in the war. Besides, Louis is just a friend." I said.
Backstage, Tamaki-Senpai was moping. Probably thought I really meant him and not the character he was acting. Honestly, he takes things way too seriously. I just hope he pulls himself together before he's on.
"Okay dear, just be careful." Renge-Chan said. "I always am." I said as I exited the stage to appear as though I was leaving the farm. Although I was also going to look over my script for the lines for the next scene.
"By the way dear, did you hear about a prophecy about a woman saving France?" Kyoya-Senpai asked. "A woman saving France? No why?" Renge-Chan asked. "Well, Joan has always been a bit of a tomboy, she even pretended to be a soldier fighting in the war when she was little. And remember when she was twelve, she told everyone that she thought she heard voices of angels in the fields outside the church." he answered. "She insisted that she did hear them, if I recall correctly." she stated.
"Well anyway, I can't help but wonder if Joan is that woman." he said. Renge dropped her broom in shock. "Oh I hope not, war is such an ugly thing, it's no place for a woman, and besides, Joan's only nineteen." she said. "Barely nineteen is more like it." Kyoya-Senpai stated. "Well, let's just pray that this female savior is not our baby." she said.
The lights when out and Renge-Chan and Kyoya-Senpai left the stage. His bodyguards change the background to a rustic French Christian church and I was kneeling in front of the alter to pretend to pray.
"Dear lord, please continue to watch everyone, especially those who are fighting in the war, their loved ones, and those who are affected greatly from the war. And please let the end of the war to end soon." I acted out.
Then a single light shone on me. "Joan, unfortunately, the war will not end soon. For the war to end, the army of France needs a leader, one with a strong and true heart, they need you." A deep dramatic voice that was actually Mori-Senpai. "Me?" I said in a flabbergasted voice, "Why?" "Because you have a gift that no one else has, the gift to hear the voices of angels and my own." The voice answered.
"But how can I help? What can a girl such as myself do?" I asked. "You will know." he said. The light disappeared, leaving me to think about what he said, or at least acting like I was thinking.
Then a loud thud, followed by a bellow came from behind me. It was Tamaki-Senpai, and he was in a male French peasant outfit and hanging over one of the church seatings we set up. He has the look on his face when he freaks out then mess something up. Knowing him, he was probably freaking out about getting on stage on time and tripped over something, thus leading to his current position.
Either way, I have to think of a way to cover this up. Then it came to me, I'll just make up the next few lines until he gets back up on his feet. "Oh Louis, what am I going to do with you?" I asked him, improvising, helping him up, making the audience laugh, "You always leap before you look." "Since when?" Tamaki-Senpai asked. "Just play along." I insisted. "It wasn't my fault this time, somehow my costume got misplaced when I had it right next to me. Then when I was running to get into position, a banana peel came out from under my foot and slipped me up. Scout's honor." he explained.
Tamaki-Senpai may be a drama king and a klutz, but he does not lie like this. Something was definitely up. Anyhow, we continued with the play when he was standing up and dusting himself off.
"Louis, what brings you here my old friend?" I acted out. "Oh Joan, you look lovely as usual today." Tamaki-Senpai said. "Always the flattering womanizer." I stated. "Well you are the most beautiful girl in our humble village of Doremy." he stated.
"How are your mother and father doing?" he asked. "They are doing fine, and they said that you're welcome to join us for dinner. Father and Mother have invited our other friends to join us." I said.
"Ye….." Tamaki-Senpai stalled, remembering the play after almost bursting with excitement, "Of course, I would be delighted to come. Your mother makes even the simplest of dishes taste like it is fit for the king of France himself." "Wonderful, I'll see you tonight. Bye" I said as I exited the church.
Later that Night:
The scene changed into the inside of a rustic French country peasant house at night. Some of our other members of the Host club and others were some of our patrons and their male friends. We asked them to fill as the extras.
I acted as if I was talking to Tamaki-Senpai as Louis. Renge-Chan was filling some of the bowls of the guests. There was really nothing in them, but we pretended as if it was freshly fried cooked porridge. Some of the other grimaced at the thought of eating plain porridge. Well, perhaps the audience will interpret those faces as them as peasants sulking over only having porridge to eat when they are so hungry.
Then a stranger came in, it was Kassanoda. Some of us acted as though we were frightened by the scary looking man. "It must be nice having a warm fire with friends and family all around." Kassanoda said, acting pretty hungry and lonely, "With warm and hearty food, and telling each other merry stories."
Acting as if I was taking pity, I got up and walked to the stranger. But I was stopped by Kyoya-Senpai. "Joan don't go near that man." he said sternly. "Father he needs help." I protested. "I will not have my daughter have wool pulled over her eyes by the likes of him. He's a tramp." he argued. "He is Hungry, let him have my porridge, I do not need it." I insisted.
After a lot of convincing, I persuaded Kyoya-Senpai acting as Joan's Father to let the stranger stay. In return, the stranger kept us up with tale of the war and what was happening outside our tiny village.
"It has nearly been a hundred years since the war has begun, families torn apart, sons, fathers, and brothers killed in violent fights leaving their friends and family behind, and innocent women and children dying in raids." the stranger stated, "At this point, the bloodshed might never end. If only there were someone that will stand up and lead our people to victory." Then I acted as though I was thinking about what the Lord had told me. Could it be really true?
Later that Night:
The scene changed to that of a cemetery and I acted as though I was paying respects to the graves there. Tamaki-Senpai was sitting near a hologram of an old oak tree bare of any leaves. After finishing paying respects, I went over to the tree and sat next to Tamaki-Senpai who was acting as Louis.
"Louis, you are my best friend, we have share many secrets after this very tree and now I must tell something I have not told anyone yet." I said. "Do not worry, I won't tell a soul." Louis promised.
"I had a vision, the Lord has told me that France will overcome England and a new era of peace will begin." I said. "But Joan, our forces are always defeated by the English. They're just too strong." Tamaki-Senpai said.
"That's because I'm going to lead to victory. I'll be the one to lead our troops." I declared, Louis dumbfounded. "But, no offense to you, you're a woman and last time I checked women can't participate in wars." he said, trying not to upset my character.
"While it is true that I am a woman and still just a child." I said, pretending that my character was pretending to ignore Tamaki-Senpai's character's statement. "Aren't you the least bit scare what will happen? You could die…and I couldn't bear it if I were to lose you forever." he said with the upmost serenity. "I am scared what will come, but I can't let fear keep me from what I need to do." I said.
I look up the hologram tree with a sentimental look. "Please, no matter what happens, let's never forget this place, our place." I said with much emotion. For a moment Tamaki-Senpai, seemed to have a surprised look on his face. I don't know why, but that expression took my breath away.
I was brought back to reality by the shrills and moved crying from the audience, mostly from the fan girls. I straighten myself up and as soon as the curtain closed to prepare for the next scene.
On the Way to Paris:
The scene changed into a French countryside road, and Tamaki-Senpai and I were in traveling clothes heading towards Paris. "According to this map, we should be to Paris by nightfall." I said holding up a map. "Finally, civilization! I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about going into such a big city." Tamaki-Senpai exclaimed.
Then we heard the crying of a child. Honey-Senpai in a girl's costume, and Kirimi-Chan went onstage holding hands and he was acting as if he was trying to comfort her. "What's wrong little ones?" Tamaki-Senpai asked. "I and my little sister are lost, we can't find our way to Paris." Honey-Senpai said with tears in his eyes.
"Well that's a coincidence. We're going to Paris ourselves." I said. "Really?" Kirimi-Chan asked, hopefully. "As long as we're going to the same place, how about we go together?" Tamaki-Senpai suggested. "Sure!" they both said. Then we continued our journey.
Inside Paris:
The scene to Paris, the capital, a bunch of the fan girls that had volunteered to be the extras, which were the peasants and merchants. Tamaki-Senpai and myself, acted as if we were examining our surroundings. I acted as if I noticed the poster on the wall, it was Hikaru.
"Well we're finally here." I stated. "Yes, this is it." Tamaki-Senpai agreed. We walked to the outside of the palace gates and stared at them for an amount of time. "Well this is it, no turning back." I said. "Joan…are you sure you're up for this?" Tamaki-Senpai asked. "As sure as I am alive." I answered with the upmost confidence. Then we acted as if we were pushing the gate doors and walked inside.
Inside the Royal Palace:
The scene changed to a luscious French palace throne room, members of the court were scattered all over the room. "We must get the king's blessing in order to gain an army to protect our country." I stated to Tamaki-Senpai. "Don't worry we will, you are very convincing after all." he reassured.
Step by step, they got closer to the man on the throne, who was Kaoru. Louis immediately bowed respectfully in front of him, but Joan just stood there with a look of disbelief on her face. "You're not the king." I stated bluntly. "What do you mean? He looks exactly like the man on the poster." Tamaki-Senpai exclaimed, "Please pardon her, your majesty. She's just playing around."
After rolling her eyes at the hysterics of her friend, she noticed another man in the crowd who looked exactly like the man before her. Only this one has a different air him about than the man on the throne does. Following her hutch, walks away from the throne and towards the man in the crowd.
"Joan, what are you doing?! We shouldn't walk away from the king. Joan ignored Louis's concerns and confronted the man who was sweating in a nervous manner. "May you live a thousand lifetimes, my noble king." she said, bowing low to the man before her.
"Amazing, you have found me, even though there was a convincing stand in." the real king, who was Hikaru said, "I have heard that there would be a girl claiming she can save our country. I wasn't sure what to think about this, so I asked my footmen for this test I have prepared and you have passed. What do you need?" the king asked, impressed with this mere shepherd girl. Who knows she just might save France from England's tyranny.
