Author's note: Gee, it's been a while, hasn't it? I don't know what, but something keeps bringing me back to Seth and Ginger – I can't help it, I love them. Big thanks to wine and Christmas leftovers for getting me through this chapter, also all of you new readers who have started following this story as of recently, it surprised me a little. I'm trying to think of ways to subtly beg you for reviews, but I can't so for the love of cake send me one.
It was incredible to watch two estranged siblings fall so easily back into a relationship that had become so strained over years of missed calls and missed moments. Seth, if possible, radiated like the sun more so than usual – his smile was so blinding I was considering wearing sunglasses inside, but I was sure Leah would make fun of me.
Apart from her obvious alcoholism and chimney-like smoking, Leah was quite similar to Molly. They were both cynical, moody, and made jokes at other's expense (mainly mine), although Molly was a puberty ridden adolescent, so I wasn't sure how well that reflected on Leah. Leah, who had made herself quite comfortable in our home, had given Seth and I what almost seemed like her blessing. By blessing I meant she only rarely dry heaved when we showed each other the slightest notion of affection, which Seth assured me was a good thing.
Since the whole wolf boy revelation, things with Seth were growing slowly back to normal. As normal as him exploding at will into a wolf could be, but relatively normal for two people like us who were anything but. He still knocked my knickers off (not literally) every time his lips met mine, regardless of the situation – even those smelly morning breath kisses nearly gave me heart attacks. He didn't help things by walking around shirtless all the time, not that I hadn't already seen his boy parts that day in the forest, but boy, those cut-off shorts really didn't leave much to the imagination. The worst part was, I'm pretty sure he knew I was objectifying him with my eyes and he enjoyed it.
It was about a week into Leah's indefinite stay, a dreary Thursday morning, the spurts of rain splattering against my bedroom window as I watched Seth sleep. It was a comforting kind of rain though, the type that made me want to curl up against his side for the rest of the day. He was shirtless, however, and I was watching his broad bare chest rise and fall with each breath. I jabbed him in the side a couple of times until he cracked open a bleary eye.
"S'matter?" He asked, still half-asleep.
"We should talk about sex." I said nonchalantly, as if my heart wasn't nervously racing against my ribcage.
That woke him up. He sat up so quick he nearly gave himself a concussion from whacking his head against the wall.
"Do you want to know where babies come from?" He asked, obviously trying to make a joke but failing miserably because he wasn't that funny. "I don't suppose you ever really got the talk from your parents, did you?"
"I do have access to the internet and a much more experienced gay best friend." I said cocking an eyebrow. "I was specifically talking about sex between… you know."
"I'm not sure if you're trying to proposition me or not right now." He said.
"Not now," I said, rolling my eyes. "But sometime soon I think."
"You'd actually be ready for that?" He asked, sounding surprised.
"Yeah, I mean…" I buried my head in the nook of his neck, suddenly feeling embarrassed. "I'm a virgin, I mean look at me – I have the sex appeal of a seal, of course I haven't done anything like that before. But I want to – with you."
It all came out very fast and very mumbled but I knew he heard every word of it. He stroked my hair and tilted my chin so I was looking at him in the eyes. He was beaming.
"That makes two of us." He said, before looking thoughtful. "Well, I mean I'm not really a seal, but I haven't had sex either, I was waiting for someone like you to come along."
"Wish I could say the same, but I just couldn't get laid in high school." I teased.
He made a face at me, ignoring my previous statement. "That being said, I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable in the slightest – take your time, and when you're ready, we'll figure things out together."
"As for now, we could always just… make out for a bit?" I said casually.
His lips were on mine in a matter of seconds, and remained there for what seemed like hours until we heard Molly turn on the shower in the upstairs bathroom. We jumped apart at the sound, a little surprised at how caught up in each other we had been. Well, not really surprised at all. There had always been this undeniable electricity between us, even as weeks passed and we became what could only be considered a boring married couple, every time he touched me, even if it was just lightly on the shoulder, I felt it surge through me. Every look, every word, every touch, it was like there was this swell of energy behind it. I couldn't even pin it on those girly hormones that make one cry in bathtubs, because I could see it behind his eyes too.
He grinned at me sheepishly. "Better get breakfast started, huh?"
We made our way downstairs, attempting to smooth down our hair and straighten our clothes unsuccessfully, only to find Leah at the kitchen counter, stirring a fresh cup of coffee.
"Morning." I greeted awkwardly.
She sighed not looking up from her mug. "You know, the walls in this house are thin enough as it is, but when you combine that with my super sensitive hearing, I may as well be in the same room with you guys."
"Er, what do you mean?" Seth said, feigning innocence.
"I mean it's cute that you're both virgins and all, in a pathetic dorky sort of way," She started, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. "But so help me, if I hear any hanky panky while we're staying under the same roof, I'm calling the police."
Seth, obviously mortified, began to busy himself around the stove – ignoring his sister's teasing. "Would anyone like some ovaries – I mean eggs."
Leah snorted and I shook my head at him, and kindly asked, "You really don't help yourself, do you?"
After laughing at Seth's expense for a good while, I rubbed his back in what I hoped would be a reassuring manner. Just as I turned around to face Leah, I was almost certain I saw the glint of a flask tipping clear liquid into her coffee, but before I could question it, she had tucked the item back into her pocket. We made eye contact, and hers, angrily daring me to say something, but at the same time seeming far away and sad, made me clamp my mouth shut. My insides felt cold all the same.
Author's note II: Also, I did some research about American colleges and I'm pretty sure mid-semester entrances don't exist (they do where I live, Australia, and gee you guys over there have to do a lot to get into college – we don't need extra curricular activities or a personal essay). So this means I'll have to go back and change a couple of things in previous chapters and put Ginger's college plans on hold a bit.
P.S Sorry this chapter was short/boring/filler-y, it's why I put off writing it for so long – not every chapter can be full of drama, right?
