This is just a chapter I always wanted to write. :D By the way, I just found out that Mary's name is spelled "M-a-r-r-y". Oh, dear lord...Well that's according to the Kagerou Project wikipedia page...I'm not going to change her name in this story. Thanks for the reviews from the previous chapter!
Let's Play Baseball! Part 1
"Oi, oi. Is it just me or do they seem depressed to you guys?" Momo whispered to the gang, excluding Kano, Kido, Takane, and Haruka, during the next morning at class. They all eyed Kano and Kido sitting by their desk with their heads down, bummed out by what happened last night. What's up with the gloomy atmosphere, they all thought nervously. The teacher appeared and the students returned to their seats.
"All rise."
"Attention."
"Bow."
"Be seated."
It was lunch time now. The only two students in the handicapped class decided to visit class 2-A.
"Ah? Look Haruka and Takane are here." Mary pointed out. "Good afternoon, guys." Haruka said a friendly voice. "What are you guys doing here?" Seto asked. "Can you guys do me a favor?" Haruka asked with his hands clasped together.
"You want us to play baseball?" Shintaro asked, taken aback like everyone else. Haruka nodded. "You see, Haruka plays baseball with the neighborhood kids at that small park nearby. The kids want to play against Haruka, so he needs to form a team of nine players." Takane explained in more details.
"Are you guys healthy enough to play baseball?" Kido asked in a concerned voice.
"It's just baseball." Haruka said with a grin. "You guys in?"
"Wouldn't it be unfair to play against kids? How old are they anyways?" Kano said, smiling.
"Have you guys ever played baseball?" Haruka asked. Everyone shook their heads. "Then, it's fair. I play with them during my spare time and they play well for their age. They're 9 years old by the way." "So you guys in?" he repeated once more with puppy-dog eyes. Everyone thought about it.
"No, thank you." Kido said, breaking their thoughts.
"Eh? Are you scared of losing to elementary school stude-Ack!" Kido slammed the teaser's head onto his desk
Kido sighed and asked, "When's the game?" Kano gave her a knowing smile.
"I-I'm only doing this to help Haruka." is what she said.
"I'm going to prove that idiot wrong!" is what she was thinking.
"Yay! Thank you, Kido! We'll definitely win with you in the team. It's on Saturday, so tomorrow by the way." Haruka exclaimed. "What do you mean you'll definitely win?" Kido asked. The idiot teased again, "You keep injuring me, so Haruka noticed your strength. With your strength, you can definitely score a home run!" Of course, his head got slammed into his desk again. "I-it w-was a compliment." he managed to say.
"Alright! There's Kido, Takane, and me. I need six more players." This was just like looking for club members for the music club, except more people were needed. "If Kido's playing, then I'm playing too." Kano said, making Haruka need five more players.
"I'll play too." Seto said. Two seconds after he had said that, Mary joined. "I-is it alright if I play, too?" she asked shyly. Haruka nodded. The only two people in the group who had not said anything yet are the Kisaragi siblings.
"I'll also join! Momo said, raising her hand. She was the only one getting enthusiastic about it. Everyone was now looking at the other Kisaragi sibling. Shintaro sighed and said, "I don't play sports." "You're so lame," Momo told him. "C'mon, big brother. Even Kido's playing." Then, she whispered into his left ear. "Also, I think playing baseball will cheer up Kano and Kido." They both turned to them. Kano must have said something to irritate Kido again, since his body was lying on the floor.
"They seem pretty fine to me." Shintaro said, turning back to Momo. His sister begged, "Please," not really going to take no for again. "I have no choice. Do I?" The poor boy asked. "Nope!" Momo, said cheerfully. She went to Haruka. "Hey! You only need one more member, Haruka!"
After meeting in the clubroom, really doing nothing, the gang walked through the town after school. "We still need one more player to complete the team." Haruka said. "Do we know anyone else?" Momo wondered looking up at the sky, not paying attention to where she was walking. She didn't seem to notice someone walking towards her to her left side. Before she knew it, she was on the ground along with the other person.
"O-ouch! Are you blind, auntie?" The gang turned to see what the commotion was.
"I'm really sorry! I should have watch where...Wait a minute! You just called me auntie! Take that back right now." she looked up to where she heard the voice. To her and the others' surprise, they saw a short boy with brown hair. He was wearing brown shorts and a blue shirt with a white vest over it.
Shintaro joined in. "Momo, I don't think you should be shouting at kids. You'll attract attention to yourself. Besides I kind of feel bad for him." "Eh? You're on his side? Traitor." Momo whined. Adults were looking at them.
"Geez." the short boy groaned, rubbing his head. "My first day in this city, and I run into an old hag." "I am not an old...wait you're new to this city you say..." Momo said with a creepy grin.
"Yeah...so what?" the boy said indifferently.
"You're practically a loner right now." Momo said.
"What? No. I have a friend who ca-"
"You have friends?" Momo interrupted.
"Argh. That's it. I'm leaving. I hope we never meet again." The boy said before walking off.
"Hey. I'm sorry. I was just joking, okay." Momo said, chasing the kid who was walking away. He stopped. "What the heck do you want?" he asked."Let's play baseball!" she said cheerfully. "I'll pass. Goodbye." he immediately replied before walking away again.
"What the hell was that?" Shintaro was scolding his sister. "You don't just ask random strangers to play baseball together. Have some common sense. Now I really do feel bad for that kid." Momo was bowing her head in shame. "Okay. I get it, big brother. I'm sorry. I will not ask random strangers to play baseball with me."
"Saying that won't do you any good. Why do you want to play baseball so badly?" he asked. Momo said sadly, "I've never played baseball before. It seems fun. Also, to cheer up Kano and Kido." She whispered the last part.
Shintaro understood how she felt and said in a sympathetic voice, "Look. I know you have good intentions for this baseball thing, but don't go bothering strangers." She nodded. They really are siblings, the whole gang thought.
"I'm sure we'll find another player by tomorrow." Shintaro said.
The Next Day
"Argh! We're still one player short!" Momo complained. The whole gang was at the park on the baseball field with only eight players. The elementary school students were playing on the playground, waiting for the other team. They were all wearing shorts to play baseball, including Kido.
"I'm going to search around the park to see if there's anyone we know here." Kido said. "I'll go with you." Kano said. They walked together around the park. "Hey. Isn't that the swing set we sat on that night on my birthday?" Kano said to her.
She turned her head to look at the swing set. "Oh yeah. It is. It looks like someone's on it. They walked near the swing set. A young girl, who was previously staring at ground, looked up at those two. She was wearing a pink dress over a black shirt and shorts.
"Um. May I help you?" she asked. "Yo." Kano said forming a peace sign with his fingers and his tongue was out.
"Why are you alone on the swing set? Are you a loner like Momo said to-" Kido punched his stomach.
"Please excuse his stupidity and everything else about him. You can ignore him. He's just an idiot. No wait. It might be better to stay away from him. His idiocy could be contagious." Kido said to the young girl. Kano spoke, "You're so cruel, you know. You're hurting me verbally now. It hurts me right here." he said, pretending to be hurt and putting a hand over his heart. "Shut up!" Kido shouted. The girl just looked them with a blank stare. Then, she giggled. "What?" Kido asked. "Nothing...It's just.." she started. "Are you guys like a couple...that quarrels a lot?" she asked. Kano was the first to react.
"Pfft...Bwahahahaha! Didn't something like this happened before?" He was rolling on the floor, laughing nonstop. Meanwhile, the green-haired girl was glaring daggers at him. "Oi, you're wearing such a scary glare. If looks could kill, I'd be dead by now."
"That expression is so cheesy." she said. He was still laughing. His stomach and cheeks were hurting. "But it's true. I've never seen you want to murder me so badly before." "Like hell I'll ever date this bastard" Kido said to the stranger. Kano continued to talk. "But you can never tell the future. I mean I might be your future husband in ten y-ouch! Is this like fifth time you've hit me today?" Kido ignored him.
"Oi. What's your name? How old are you?" she asked the girl.
"Hiyori Asahina!" she said cheerfully with a smile. "I'm twelve years old."
"Ah. So..." Kano started when he stood up.
"Hm?" she said curiously.
"Want to play baseball with us? Kano said. He immediately got smacked in the head...
"O-ouch! Alright. I probably deserved that." the poor boy said.
"You bastard! Did you just completely ignored what Shintaro said to Momo yesterday about asking strangers to play baseball with us?!" Kido yelled at his ears.
"Hey. You're blinding my ears." Kano said, covering his ears.
"You can't blind someone's ears, you idiot."
It was like last night had never happened. Neither had mentioned about the promise nor Ayano. Did they not mention last night because they didn't want to hurt each other?
"I don't think you should be hitting me and saying bad words in front of kids. Listen to me, Hiyori. Don't turn into a violent girl like her." Kano said in pain. "Besides strangers are just friends you haven't met yet. Plus, we know her name!" He had a point...Kido glared at him. Then, Kano pretended to glare back, but failed.
"Um..." Hiyori said. The two freshmen turned to her. "I don't mind playing baseball with you guys. We can be friends if you want." Kano smirked in victory, as Kido sighed. "See? Now we're friends. We didn't ask a 'stranger' to play baseball with us."
"By the way, what are your guys' names?" Hiyori asked.
"Oi! Look! We found our ninth player!" Kano said, running on the baseball field. Kido and Hiyori ran from behind him. "Yay!" Momo cheered. Then, she realized..."Wait. Who is she?" she asked.
"I'm Hiyori Asahina. Just call me Hiyori. Wow. You're really pretty, by the way." Hiyori introduced herself to Momo.
"Someone I don't even know called me pretty." Momo said to herself. "Let's become best friends!" she blurted out to Hiyori. Shintaro sighed. "Did you guys just ask a random stranger to play baseball? he asked Kano and Kido. Kido said, "Don't look at me. Look at him." Kano answered, "Ahem. Correction: We asked a stranger we befriended two minutes ago." Like that's any better, Shintaro thought sarcastically.
"Whatever. We got a complete team now. Let's play baseball!" Momo shouted.
It's the first inning right now. Kido was the pitcher and Kano was the catcher. Takane was on first base. Momo on second. Haruka's position was the shortstop, since most balls goes there and he's better than all of the players. Hiyori was on third. Mary was the right fielder. Shintaro was on the left field. Lastly, Seto was playing the central fielder. "Go, Kido. Throw a strike." Momo cheered.
Kido threw the baseball. It was a wild throw. She threw it too high. Because of this, Kano wasn't able to catch it. "What...was that?!" Kano shouted at her. "Shut up, you bastar-I mean you idiot! You're just a lousy catcher and you 're messing me up." It's hopeless, the team thought. Kido threw it again. Another wild pitch.
Kano said, "You throw worse than a crippled woman. " That would soon be the exact opposite, though.
"Tch. That's it! Shut up!" Kido threw the ball a third time with such a high velocity along with her anger. The ball went accelerating towards Kano's direction so quickly. His reaction was fast and he barely caught it before it made contact with his face.
"Strike!"
"O-ow! Are you trying to break my hands...and my face?" he asked her, with a teasing smile.
"Isn't it obvious?" she replied. Throughout the first inning, Kano continued badmouthing her.
She threw it again. "Go to hell, Kano!" She ignored the fact that there were kids they were playing against.
"Strike!"
"I think I already am." Kano muttered, rubbing his hands.
"Stike! Batter out! Switch!"
The opposing team had three outs now and scored zero points thanks to Kido's strong pitches and Kano's fast catches. The teams have swapped roles. Haruka's team is batting now. Mary was the first to bat. "You can do it, Mary." Momo and Hiyori cheered.
She looks so nervous right now. The pitcher threw the ball. Mary had swing too late.
"Strike!"
The pitcher threw it a second time.
"Strike!" She had swing too early this time.
"Do your best, Mary!" Seto said. She blushed and nodded. The pitcher threw the ball the third time. Mary swings.
"Nice! Mary, run!" Seto cheered.
'You know what they say. Third time's the charm." Hiyori said with a smile.
Mary drops her bat and runs...to third base..."Wait. Mary. You ran the wrong way. It's counter clockwise." Haruka tried to explain in time. She tries to run back towards first base, but doesn't make it in time.
"Out!"
"Um...who said that again?" Momo asked Hiyori.
It was Kido's turn to bat. "Hit us a home run with your super manly strength." Kano yelled from the bench with Seto sitting next to him. Really, Kano? Calling her manly, Seto thought. Momo scolded Kano. "She'll never be your girlfriend if you call her manly."
"Strike!"
"Nice try, Tsubomi!" Kano said her first name. He was pissing her off on purpose.
"I hate you!" she yelled before hitting the ball with the bat.
"I love you, too." he said, ignoring what she said.
"Do you really love her?" Hiyori asked, surprised.
"I'll let you find out yourself." Kano winked at her and smiled as Kido ran to first base.
"Safe!"
"Hey, Seto." Kano whispered to his "brother". "What is it, Kano?" Seto asked. "Kido knows Ayano." Kano said. "Seriously? You better not be lying. But how?" he asked in wonder. "I don't know..." Kano replied. Seto asked, "Do you think she knew Ayano before she lost her memories or after?" Once again, Kano said, "I don't know..."
"Well. Let's try not think about it right now. We're playing baseball. We should be having some fun." Seto said kindly. No wonder they seemed gloomy this morning, Seto thought in the inside. "Hiyori, it's your turn to bat." Haruka said to her. "Okay! Wish me luck." she said to Momo. "Good luck!" Momo cheered with a thumbs-up.
Hiyori made a base hit and safely reached first base, while Kido was on second. "Hell yeah! The girls are playing well." Kano pointed out. He had forgotten about how Mary ran to the wrong base and Seto attempted to placate her.
Next up was Shintaro. "You can't do it, big brother!" Momo deterred. "Hah? Is that supposed to make me feel better?" he shouted angrily to his sister. "Um. What are you doing, Momo?" Mary asked. "Reverse psychology." Momo whispered to them in a determined voice.
"I think you just jinxed it." Takane said, next to Haruka.
"Three strikes! You're out!"
"Looks like it didn't work." Seto said, laughing nervously.
Shintaro walked back to the bench. "Geez. You're so lame. We have another out now." Momo said in a disapproving voice. "I told you already. I don't play sports! And the hell was that when said 'You can't do it' ?" he argued. Poor Shintaro. He was forced to play baseball and now his sister was calling him pathetic.
Seto was up next. He had swing the ball and ran, but one of the kids caught it. There were three outs now. "Sorry. I never really was athletic in junior high either." he said, rubbing his head in embarrassment. "It's alright! None of the teams scored any points, so we just need to score more points later. It's only the beginning of the game." Haruka said, sounding extremely optimistic to the team.
It was currently the third inning and the opposing team had two outs.
"Oh man! We're losing badly to a bunch of elementary school students!" Takene said in dismay. She was starting to breathe hard."I told you they were pretty good. Besides, you guys have never played baseball." Haruka said.
Kano said, "If we lose, we'll lose with style!"
"And that's a good thing?" Kido said to herself.
The score was 0-2. No, the new score is 0-3. Mary failed to catch the baseball when it went to the right field. "It's okay!" Haruka shouted. "We'll score even more points in the next inning!"
"C'mon, Tsubomi. Throw more str-" Kano said before having to catch the ball once again with his hands in so much pain.
"Strike! You're out! Switch roles!" It was the fourth inning now.
"Wow. Kano's plan to purposely annoy her is making her play well." Haruka said, walking away from the shortstop position.
"Alright! We're batting now. Let's score some points!" Momo cried out with her hands up in the air, jumping up and down. Again, she was the only one excited. It was the deceiver's turn to bat. The young pitcher threw it to Kano.
Ding.
"Yeah! Good hit!" Haruka said. Kano made it to first base.
"Safe!"
The cheering and clapping of the team could be heard. "Are you impressed yet, Kido?" he shouted from first base and winked at her. Momo looked at her with her signature creepy grin. "Not unless you hit a home run!" Kido replied from the bench. He just smirked.
"Takane's turn!" Haruka said happily. She coughed and nodded. Then, she had put on a helmet and grabbed the bat. "Hey. Does she seem pale to you?" Hiyori asked Momo. Before they knew it, Takane's knees and the bat were on the ground.
"Takane! Are you okay?" Haruka asked, running to her. Everyone else followed him.
"I'm just...tired." she muttered, panting. She's exhausted. He had helped her up and walked her to the bench. "You should rest. You don't have to play anymore." he said in a gentle voice.
"Damn it...Because of my body...I'm sorry..." she said, before drifting off to sleep on the bench. "She'll be fine. She's just really tired." Haruka said. Everyone could tell he was still concerned about her health.
"You're short one player." the umpire said. No shit, Sherlock, Kido thought.
"Again?" Momo said in a sad, helpless voice.
"No!" Hiyori said in a determined voice. She grabbed out her cell phone and dialed someone's number quickly.
"What are you..." Hiyori motioned, "Sh," with her fingers.
"It's me. Hey...Hibiya..."
A/N: The minor characters finally play an important role! They're trying to help our main characters, Kano and Kido, cheer up (after what had happened in the previous chapter) with a game of baseball. I introduced two new characters who we all know and love.
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, because I really enjoyed writing it. Please review. Share your opinions with me. Writing advice is welcomed to improve my story. Thank you for reading. I don't know when Part 2 will be up. I'm on my spring break, though. Okay. I'm done. Bye! c:
P.S.
"Blinding my ears," is something I usually say instead of using the word "deafening".
This chapter is mainly for humor/entertainment. It was "refreshing" for me to write.
I literally just finished this last night. Probably because of my spring break.
