Chapter 12
More
I was slowly but surely growing back into myself. After a long emotional debate, I decided to put one of Flower's eggs in the incubator. I could tell Flower missed her chicken friend, and I didn't want her to feel as lonely as I did. I hadn't talked to Flora, Celia, or even Muffy since Ginger's death. I guess when I tell someone to get out, they get out for good. I ran into Celia one night when I was out on a walk, and we shared awkward eye contact with each other. She had given me a small smile, but after a brief pause, I just kept on walking. I was never one for apologizing, even before the language barrier got in my way. Currently, I was on my way to see Skye at the Goddess pond. He was my only sanity at the moment, and we had started to get closer ever since the night Ginger died. When I arrived, he was already there for once, sitting on a blanket and looking up at the stars. I walked towards him, and I guess he heard my footsteps, because he turned to me before I got to him.
'Hello beautiful.' He signed, just like I recently taught him.
'Hey Skye,' I signed back, and he smirked at me.
'How goes the farm?' His lips ask, unable to sign the question.
'Good,' I sign back. I pick up my notepad and write a note. 'How goes the thieving?' Skye smirks at me, amused.
'Interested in me, eh?' He says, smirking the entire time. I roll my eyes at him, and he continues. 'Be careful Jill. I couldn't have a sweet girl like you falling for my charms. Unless of course,' he pauses, 'You already have.' I blush furiously at this and punch him in his shoulder.
'In your dreams Skye.' I write on a note before throwing it at him.
'How'd you know?' He said. For a second, his smirk was replaced with a genuine smile. It went as quickly as it came though, and pretty soon I was back to feeling like he was messing with me. This conversation was becoming too much for me to handle, so I hastily changed the subject.
'Why the blanket?' I ask through a note. Skye looks up at me and smiles.
'Don't you want to look at the stars with me?' His lips ask. I give him a look before sitting down next to him on the blanket. He smirks at me, obviously getting what he wanted, and I start to blush again. 'Oh, I forgot.' Skye says, and he pulls out a plate of curry from a basket. My face instantly brightens.
'Thank you,' I sign, and I don't even wait to see if he understood me before I start shoveling the stuff in. Skye starts to eat off the same plate as me, and I look up at him, questioning his action.
'I only brought this serving, so we'll have to share.' He says. 'It's a new recipe, and I wanted you to try it out.' I look at him sheepishly before starting to eat slower. After we finished, I sighed happily.
'His cooking is way better than Celia's.' I think to myself, and after a moment, I can feel my face cloud over. I never did thank her for cooking that food for me. It was nice of her, even though it sucked. I hadn't thanked Muffy or Marlin either for what they did for me that day. Even though I didn't apologize for my actions, I could have thanked them for what they'd done for me. Skye must have noticed my expression, because he tapped me on my shoulder, and when I looked at him, he asked 'What's wrong Jill?' I sighed and looked down at the ground. After a moment, I wrote a note explaining my troubles.
'The day Ginger died, Muffy, Celia, and Marlin did a lot for me, and I didn't even say thank you. In fact, I kicked them off my farm. And I haven't talked to them since.' It said. After Skye finished reading, he looked up from the note and thought for a moment.
'Well, you could always apologize.' He said. I shook my head at him.
'I'm terrible at apologizing. I always make it seem like it's the other person's fault. After a while, I just stopped trying. I lost a lot of friends, but after a few times, I just stopped caring.' Skye looked at me thoughtfully after reading that.
'Did you keep any friends?' He asks. I freeze, and her name enters my mind. 'Claire,' my inner voice says hauntingly, and I shake my head quickly.
'Rick, the guy in mineral town, and I were close. Just him and,' I scribble the 'and' out on the note. 'Just him.' Skye examines my face for a while. I can't meet his eyes, and after we had sat there for moment, I sign 'What?'
'Well although I thoroughly enjoy your company my darling Jill, don't you ever want,' his lips pause, ' More?' I sit without communicating for a while, thinking about what he'd said.
'Maybe.' I finally reply. 'But sometimes, I don't think I deserve more.' I turn away from him, not wanting to see his reply. After a moment, I lay back on the blanket, and Skye soon follows suit. Before he lays completely down though, he puts his face right above mine. He holds it there for a second, and I can feel my heart pounding.
'I think you deserve more.' His lips barely say. He holds his head above mine for another second, before giving me one of his famous smirks and laying down next to me.
The next day, I'm in my kitchen, cooking various things that I hope will turn out to be edible. I was planning on going to the Blue Bar and Vesta's seed shop today, because even if I didn't deserve more, I knew some people who did.
