A/N: This takes place PRIOR to the Co-Authored fiction 'Life Goes On' which can be found on my story list and AFTER the fiction by my co-author, Sabrina06, on 'Life Goes On' called 'Life Turned Upsidedown'. It takes place shortly after both Ferb and Gretchen have graduated from college and are sharing an apartment.
Twenty year old Ferb Fletcher opened the apartment door to reveal his father standing there. Ferb blinked.
"Father, what brings you by?" Ferb inquired with a raised eyebrow.
"I think we should have a wee chat son," Lawrence replied.
Ferb gestured that Lawrence should come inside. Lawrence came in and sat on the couch. Ferb closed the door behind him and moved towards the couch.
"Tea?" Ferb offered.
Lawrence pondered this for a moment and then shook his head.
"What sort of wee chat?" Ferb inquired.
"Where's Gretchen?" Lawrence asked of his son's finacee.
"She's asleep in her room, she won't be up for another couple of hours, why?" Ferb returned, gesturing down the hall towards an obviously locked door.
"I know you showed us your living arrangements until you two get married this summer but-" Lawrence began.
"Mum's still putting up a resistance," Ferb finished.
Lawrence nodded, "Linda still feels you two are still young."
Ferb pulled on his hair, "I am a legal adult."
"I know Ferb. I know Gretchen makes you happy. I have no problems with you two getting married this summer," Lawrence replied.
"I am sensing a but," Ferb noted.
Lawrence shifted slightly, "Linda wants me to convince you to hold off for a couple of years."
Ferb's eyes narrowed and Lawrence continued, "I personally think it's your own decision…..and honestly I think you shouldn't let anyone dictate your life for you."
"You haven't tried doing that since I left for school," Ferb remarked.
"I know. It was a difficult for me to allow you to do so," Lawrence said.
Ferb raised an eyebrow.
"I just want to give you some advice," Lawrence spoke softly.
Ferb blinked.
"Just be open with one another. Communication is very important. You understand?" Lawrence said without looking directly at his son.
"Gretchen and I talk things out all the time," Ferb replied quietly.
"She understands you doesn't she," Lawrence stated.
Ferb smiled and nodded.
"That's good," Lawrence replied, "You know you can come to me at any time you please for advice."
"I don't want to impose," Ferb said softly.
"You could never impose Ferb. You're my son and I will always love you," Lawrence replied.
"I love you too fath- Dad," Ferb responded.
Well I'm just going to stop there before I make this too long of a chapter. Father/Son fluff, yay! Once again I will refer you to 'Life turned Upsidedown' by Sabrina06 and the sequel 'Life Goes On' here on my account but is co-authored by Sabrina06 and myself.
