"Ingrid, thank you" Emma hugged her like her life depended on it, gripping on tight as if it wouldn't last. The little girl had tears on her cheeks, Ingrid gripped her tightly to her body hugging her back crying as well happy to have Emma in her life. "I love you Emma"

Emma murmured into Ingrid "Love you too"

Separating Ingrid cupped Emma's chin in her hand and looked her in the eyes warmly.

"I will always protect you, I promise" Ingrid wrapping Emma tightly in her arms, causing Emma to shake as memories of her terrors came to mind. For once, she actually believed it; she would protect her. She felt loved.

Something did not feel right, while sitting in her apartment. She had just seen Emma a second ago, she was beginning to worry for her. Those people had no idea, she just wished and hoped that Emma at least knew someone was there for her.

A second goes by and then as Ingrid headed over to her living room she froze as a feeling captivated her.

"Emma" she whispered into the distance, frozen with terror as she heard tires screech and a crash come from the street outside.

Glancing towards the window she saw flashes of bright red and blue lights going off and zip by in a hurry. Running over to her apartment window she glanced out to see someone lifted onto a stretcher; they had blonde hair she would recognize anywhere.

"No" she whispered as she ran grabbing her coat and in a daze towards the hospital as the ambulance took off towards it. In a blur people were panicking some were getting quickly into their cars heading where she was heading.

Ingrid and Emma were walking home at night time, both happy as can be. Emma finally had a place of belonging and what Ingrid had told her at carnival has change their lives for the better.

The cold chilled Emma as she smiled, Ingrid rubbed her arms hoping to help keep her warm. "It's nights like this I wish I had the power to poof home like Harry Potter" Emma said jokingly about the cold.

"If I was like him I would be standing here in the cold one minute and home soaking in the tub in the next" Ingrid smiled at the joke, then as she thought an idea came to Ingrid's mind.

"That would be something, wouldn't it?" Ingrid inquired causing Emma to smile. The rain had begun to fall through the night as the both of them reached cover under the bus stop benches which had a little roof.

"Emma?" causing Emma to look up. "Emma do you remember how much fun we had in the arcade last week?" she asked holding onto Emma's arms

"Of course, best time I've had in a long time. How could I forget?" Emma said excitedly remembering.

"And do you remember how the lights and the game flickered. Right before you won?"

"Yeah weird" Emma said wondering and dwelling.

Ingrid smiled "What if it was more than just wierd. What if it meant that you were on the cusp of a great self revelation?" Emma started to get confused on what Ingrid had meant trying to think.

"You think I have powers, like Harry Potter?" Emma exclaimed scared and worried.

Ingrid laughed before trying to reach out and reassure Emma "No Emma, that is you have is more real and more powerful than you can possibly imagine"

Emma as Ingrid spoke eyes began to tear and well up with tears. "I should have known" the sobs came in force at this point. "The only person who was willing to adopt me would be crazy, I shouldn't have been surprised. To think that someone would want me because of a crazy reason"

Ingrid tried to reach out to Emma to comfort her and embrace her. "Emma no" she spoke through oncoming tears as well.

She would always remember those eyes. The eyes filled with so much pain and abuse wet with tears as if all hope had been lost then and there. These eyes haunted Ingrid since the day she had discovered Emma's past and now her she was adding to the list of many who had failed her.

No she promised she wouldn't….

"I thought" Emma sobbed looking Ingrid in the eyes as tears stream down her cheeks, before running down the middle of the road.

"Emma wait" she didn't, so Ingrid ran after the girl in the rain she had slipped and fell accidentally a couple of feet away from her.

And as if appearing into thin air coming from nowhere. The lights.

Emma turned to Ingrid not realizing the light as tears blurred her vision with the rain, then finally with in milliseconds. Ingrid's eyes dilated. The horn sounded. "EMMA!"

Black surrounded Emma.

The car swerved, crashed and stopped with the drunk slowly crawling out of his car. "Oh shit" they mutter as they hear Ingrid scream.

"No" Ingrid murmured softly as she got up from the ground so fast to go over to her in a flash.

Her vision was foggy however she could still see the horror, Emma laid there not breathing and if she was it was very faint; Ingrid tried to embrace her as she sobbed. Ingrid grasped the side of Emma's bruised face as bright blue and red lights assaulted her. "NO, Emma no" she gasped sobbing loudly and uncontrollably.

As she passed out from shock she tried to hold onto Emma with everything she had.

"Two female and one male, one child in critical condition. Adult male and the woman is stable. Getting ready for transport. Expect us"

Being in and out of consciousness Ingrid could see a man's grey eyes telling her to hold on as he placed an oxygen mask over her face. All she cared about was Emma.

"Emma?" she tried to whisper as she heard the E.M.T haul another stretcher in the back of the ambulance.

She faded out as she felt the ambulance begin to move, barely seeing anything she heard one of the men utter something to the other man who sounded labored.

"Give it up, kid's a lost cause" the driver stated while driving to the hospital.

"There's no such thing as a lost cause" the man exclaimed charging the paddles and hastily placed them down on a chest.

Then a beep, then another beep followed by a lot more; Ingrid wanted to cry.

"Thank you god" the paramedic looked up to the sky, then down at a young Emma Swan.

Ingrid finally lost consciousness for the final time.

She had trauma in her skull, the only problem was; she didn't remember the last year of her life.

Ingrid blamed herself and was devastated.

The social worker sought it fit to take Emma to a new foster home and away from who was really the safest person for her to be with, sending her to more abusers.

She couldn't keep her promise, just like all the others she hurt Emma Swan. She couldn't keep her safe….

There was a bunch of EMT's and nurses hovering over a gurney as she was brought in as came over and saw who it was. He shouted out for them to prep the operating room and to move out of the way as they rushed towards it and away.

Emma's head swayed to the left as she tried to breath in oxygen and her eyes open and close, why couldn't she feel her legs. "Ingrid" she murmured that no one heard as she passed out.

Entering the Hospital in a flurry seeing multiple people going every different direction, she searched for the front desk hastily. Reaching it she was in tears and frantic.

"Please I need to see Emma Swan" the woman gained attention from the whole waiting room filled with people. It had been silent before, however now you could hear a pin drop.

"May I ask who you are?" the nurse asking not divulging any information.

"Please, I have to see her" the lady at the desk then glanced to the side behind Ingrid noticing someone approaching.

"….Why do you want to see my daughter?" Snow White had spoken through tears of her own as she asked the woman foreign to her.

Ingrid had then turned around tears upon her face, towards Emma's birth mother. Saying nothing she glanced towards the waiting room to see it completely filled with people all of whom were staring her down in confusion. "You're the woman from the forest before, you're under arrest for attacking two people in the woods yesterday" He takes out his cuffs and goes to cuff Ingrid.

Dr. Whale then ran in looking for Emma's family frantically pressed for time. "Emma's losing a lot of blood, we don't know her blood type since when Emma moved to storybrooke she didn't have them transferred.

"She's O-negative like me" Ingrid spoke up as she got everyone's attention once more since before Whale came over.

"Can you donate?!" Whale asked her within seconds, knowing Emma was stable however needed this blood.

"I'll do anything for Emma" Whale looked to David and he let Ingrid go, Ingrid then ran off with Whale and two nurses to get Ingrid's blood tested so there was no complications with the transfusion.

Leaving behind the rest of Emma's family wondering desperately who this woman really was and how she knew Emma more than they supposedly do. As snow white held her hand to her chest twirling her ring as she saw the woman leave with Whale her husband then hugged her side trying to comfort his wife knowing it was going to be a tough night for their family.

Regina kept Henry and Killian company as they waited for news, it seems as time went by more and more people they knew showed up comforting Snow and David and the family. Hook's old crew even showed up for support.

Hours ticked by as the light outside diminished outside and some people went home. Snow, David, Regina, Robin, Roland, Henry, Killian, Granny, Red, The Dwarfs, and Belle.

It was near midnight when Robin took Roland and Henry to Regina's mansion for the night, Regina refusing to leave wanting to be there for The Charmings. The rest of dwarfs gave Snow and David hugs as they left excluding Grumpy who stayed behind with Granny and Red as Belle had left fifteen minutes after them.

Snow and David sat next to each other as Snow was laying into her husband as she stared down the hallway as did David while twirling her ring and dried tears in her eyes.

A door creaked open exposing light in the hallway as Whale emerged with tired and sad eyes, he instantly saw Snow and David down the hall and sighed. It was such a lengthy procedure, Emma has hit her head and her back was hit directly by the car in which hurt her spine.

David noticed him first he shook with fear, as he lightly nudged his wife "Snow" he murmured bringing the attention of everyone who had stayed as well.

Whale slowly made his way down the hallway at 3 in the morning how he was going to tell these parents who have been separated from their daughter that she may be paralyzed from the waist down.

Snow and David stood up to meet Whale and ask.

Ingrid had come from the same place as Whale to see this from down the hallway as her own tears fell knowing already.

She could hear mumbles of conversation from the couple and the doctor as he explain what had happened medically. Such as how he had done before with Ingrid after a nurse had finally been faxed Emma's medical file.

It had her naming Emma's medical proxy since right before Emma turned 16 the adoption process had gone through making Emma legally her daughter. One problem was at the time Emma had run away to Phoenix and still hadn't remembered her.

A mother down the hallway started to sob uncontrollably and began to cry and scream. "No.." David was distrait just as much as her looking at Regina,Ruby and Granny knowing Snow was gone.

Sobs reigned bringing David back to that horrible night when the very first curse was enacted and their child had to leave them.

"NO, why my..." David reached for her and held as she almost went down to the ground in shock.

David held back as he held her in his arms as Granny reached over to help Snow handle the news as they felt the anguish she was feeling.

David then began to ask Whale more as he tried to comfort his wife as he received help from Red and Granny; he needed to be strong for their daughter.

"Can we see her?" David said emotionally as he wanted to see her as everyone else did; it would help.

"She's being pushed to a private room in a little bit, we had her in the ICU for a hour and a half just make sure we got all the internal bleeding down and check we didn't miss anything. The nurse will give you the room number in a bit, the road to recovery is going to be a long one for her to possibly regain movement in her legs"

David knew they would be there every step of the way for their daughter "What do you suggest we do to move forward, physically therapy?" He asked then that's when Whale's face changed, he was dreading bringing this up.

Whale sighed as he was afraid how to tell them this "Legally every medical decision including treatment and recovery is not granted to you" he tried to put it mildly fearing for the prince's right hook.

David had been suppressing emotion for a while since the news as his wife was still crying behind him sitting down with Regina,Ruby and Granny comforting her. "What? She's our daughter!"

Ingrid cringed as she heard him still reeling from the news herself down the hall.

David moved closer to Whale looking mad while security had moved up to help the doctor out encase it got violent. Whale saw them approach and waved them off.

"Biologically she's your daughter we all know that, however legally since she is not able to take care of herself or make any decisions her medical proxy is in charge of her wellbeing"

Ingrid had been coming down the hall slowly as she approached she heard the question.

"Who's that?"

Ingrid then faced Emma's biological parent's for the first time. "Me" David and everyone looked towards Ingrid fully for the first time.

Regina's eyes widened as she finally fully got a look at the woman, the way she dressed and the way she stood reminded her of another blonde she knew very well.
