Chapter Twelve
A Lotion Potion
"This book is simply the best!" Trinny smiled in delight, "It has natural cures for just about every aliment one can think of. Twilight was right on with this one," she started to read through the table of contents.
"What does it say that we need?" Scootaloo jumped and fluttered about with excitement.
"Hold on my dear little filly," Trinny gently put her back down on the ground, "Ah," she found what she needed, "Looks like there is a lotion that can be applied to the affected area… oh… instant relief of burning sensation," she dreamily smiled, "That sounds divine…"
"So what do we need?" Scootaloo could barely take it.
"Let's see…," she carefully read over the ingredients, "A cup of milk, a half a cup of yogurt, a splash of apple vinegar cider, a tablespoon of honey and …. Huh?" she seemed a little confused.
"What is it?" Apple Bloom asked.
"Mmm…," Trinny checked the title of the book, then turned back to the page, "… apparently it also calls for baking soda… I was just making sure this wasn't a cook book."
Apple Bloom looked to the cover. It was an all too familiar title that brought back fond memories. Supernaturals: Natural Remedies and Cure-Alls That Are Simply Super was a wondrous book that contained all sorts of remedies and cures. Once looked over due to its rather unusual name, it was the only thing that could cure Applejack and the others from their Poison Joke afflictions. Apple Bloom would never forget that day. Zecora showed them all that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover or a mare by how she looks and acts. If one would just look inside, they might find something they weren't expecting; a good and powerful friend.
"No worries Trinny," Apple Bloom assured her, "That book will see you through. We can even help you gather all the stuff you need. Right girls?" she looked back to her friends.
They all looked to another and shouted, "CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS INGREDIENT GATHERS!"
"That's the enthusiasm I expect from my little fillies," Trinny seemed pleased, "I just hope we can gather everything before we have to go to the schoolyard," she seemed a little worried.
"Don't you worry," Scootaloo proudly stepped forward, "We can get it all done in no time."
"Yeah," Sweetie Belle agreed, "If we split up, we can gather the ingredients quicker."
"Babs Seed and me can go to Sweet Apple Acres for the milk, yogurt and vinegar cider," Apple Bloom volunteered.
"Scootaloo and I can go to Fluttershy's for the honey," Sweetie Belle put her arm around Scootaloo's neck.
"I'll head to Sugarcube Corner to procure some baking soda," Trinny thought for a moment, "Why don't we all meet there instead?" she suggested, "We can bring some sweets for every pony while we listen to the story. I'll go with Apple Bloom and Babs Seed since there's more ingredients there."
The fillies could barely contain themselves at the thought of sweet treats, "YAY!" they cheered.
"Alright girls," Apple Bloom smirked, "We all know what we need to do. Right?"
"Right!" they answered in an assured tone.
"Let's go!" they all went running off in different directions.
"Ah… girls?" Trinny called to them, "Sweet Apple Acres is that way," she pointed down one path, "And Fluttershy's cottage is that way," she point down another.
Each one blushed as they started down their correct path. It was a little embarrassing to be running off so excitedly, but not in the right way. Trinny only smiled and gave a little chuckle as they headed in the direction of home. It took no time for them to get to the house. Apple Bloom called out to see where her family was, but no pony answered. While Babs Seed and Trinny gathered what was needed, she went through the house and closest fields in search of them. She had little success and returned the house with a worried heart.
"Couldn't find them Cuz?" Babs Seed greeted her.
"… no…," she sighed.
"Don't worry my little Apple Bloom," Trinny patted her lightly on the head, "I'm sure that they are finishing up and will be heading back here any moment now."
"You think so?" she looked up at her with sad eyes.
"Of course," Trinny nodded her head, "We'll just leave a note explaining what we're doing and where they can find us," she pulled out a quill and piece of parchment and started to write, "That should do it. And now to send it off," she rolled it up and with a pop of her red magic it disappeared.
"Um… Trinny?" Babs Seed asked, "How do you know it will get to Granny Smith, Applejack and Big Mac?"
Her eyes flew open, "… um… well… I… ah… hmm," she folded her ears back in thought, "I guess I should send a few then," she quickly wrote out two more letters and teleported them away, "There. That should do it," she trotted out the door, "Let's go to Sugarcube Corner and wait for Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle."
Apple Bloom and Babs Seed looked to one another and wondered if it would have been easier to just leave a note at the house. They didn't have time to ponder that though. Trinny was already out the door and heading off the farm. Moving their little hooves as quick as they could, they tried to catch up to her. When they finally did, Trinny couldn't help but chuckle.
Every pony giggled as they trotted down the path into Ponyville. The residents seemed a little happier that day. Every pony was waving and greeting each other. Friendly exchanges were happening all around them. Laughing and smiling; there wasn't a single pony that wasn't enjoying the beautiful, sunny day.
"Good see that every pony has a smile on their face," Trinny was delighted by the upbeat mood in the streets.
It was true that every pony seemed to be in a better mood that day. Ponies were stopping and chatting with one another. They were exchanging funny stories and interesting things that they might have come across. Where one smile started, three others appeared. Even Apple Bloom and Babs Seed couldn't help but smile and have a bounce in their step.
"Hey you guys!" it was Scootaloo waved to them.
Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle were already waiting in front of the Sugarcube Corner.
"Hey girls!" Apple Bloom ran up to them, "You beat us here!"
"Yup…," Scootaloo polished her hoof with pride, "We're just that good."
"Yeah," Sweetie Belle giggled, "If we hadn't met Fluttershy along the way, we might have still been walking there."
"Sweetie Belle!" Scootaloo nudged her in the ribs, "They didn't have to know that."
"Opps," she blushed.
Giggles of young fillies filled the air. They eventually settled down long enough to check and make sure that they had gotten what they needed. Apple Bloom and Babs Seed were all set. Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle had what they needed, but still had get it from Fluttershy.
"Yeah," Scootaloo explained, "She was delivering a big pot of honey to the Cakes when we met up with her. Apparently they're making some sort of honey cake and needed a lot of honey."
"How delicious," Trinny licked her lips.
"Speaking of honey," Scootaloo ran into the shop, "Still need to get the honey and baking soda."
They followed her in to a much neater Sugarcube Corner. The floors still looked freshly waxed and the walls weren't splattered with foal food. The display cases were filled with trays and trays of confectionary delights. And Mr. and Mrs. Cake were wide awake and looked well rested. Not a bag under their eyes to be seen nor wailing foal to be heard. They stood behind the counter talking to Fluttershy.
"Oh there you are," Mrs. Cake stepped out, "It's good to see you again Miss Trinny. I don't know what we would have done without you," she thanked Trinny.
"The foals slept so peacefully through the night," Mr. Cake agreed, "… So did we… and Pinkie Pie… she didn't even get up for her midnight pudding snack."
"Did some pony mention pudding!?" Pinkie Pie rushed out of the back with Pumpkin and Pound in her arms.
"Sorry Pinkie, there's no pudding," Mr. Cake thought for moment, "We're all out."
"Ahh…," Pinkie made a sad face, then she noticed Trinny, "…"
"Pinkie?" Mrs. Cake waved her hoof in front of Pinkie's eyes, "Are you alright dearie?"
Quickly Pinkie handed Pumpkin and Pound off to the Cakes and ran out of the shop with a gasp.
"Oh my," Mrs. Cake was confused.
"What's gotten into her?" Mr. Cake looked to Fluttershy.
"Maybe she's forgotten something," she mumbled, "she tends to over react… Oh my! Please don't tell her that I said that. Wouldn't want to offend her."
"Don't worry about it my dear," Trinny assured her, "She was always an excitable little filly," she sighed, "She brought such joy to her family on their rock farm. And of course she brings joy to every pony that she meets."
"But why did she run from you?" Babs Seed looked up to her.
"Only Pinkie Pie knows… actually," she thought for a moment, "She probably doesn't even know… Oh well," she shrugged her shoulders, "I was hoping that she wanted to come and listen to that wonderful story, but I guess she's going to be a little busy. Oh," she looked to Fluttershy, "Why don't you come along? It's a lovely story about young fillies trying to find themselves."
"That sounds lovely Miss… Miss Trinny was it?" Fluttershy felt a little guilty for not remembering.
"That it is," she smiled, "We met some time ago, but don't you worry. I've been gone far too long and I'm sorry I haven't been around much," she apologized.
Fluttershy shyly smiled, "Oh… well… it's okay. As for the story… that does sound like a lovely time. I would love to come and listen."
"Excellent," Trinny smiled, "Speaking of which," she headed to the display case, "Let's pick out some cupcakes and bring them for every pony. You girls even pick out something special for yourselves."
It took a few minutes, but eventually three boxes full of cupcakes were wrapped up and ready to go. Trinny picked out a few extra things before they left the Sugarcube Corner. The Crusaders volunteered to carry the treats. It was the least they could do since Trinny bought all the treats.
Apple Bloom looked back at Trinny and Fluttershy. They were happily chatting about the story that Twilight had started the day before. Fluttershy had never heard the story before and she was quite thrilled to hear the rest of it. Trinny couldn't agree more. Fluttershy, though she didn't really remember Trinny, talked with her like she was an old friend.
"It was rather fortunate that we met," Trinny smiled.
"Oh yes," Fluttershy agreed, "It was rather fortunate that you and the girls were at the Sugarcube Corner..."
A thought suddenly came to Apple Bloom, "Hey Scootaloo."
"Ya?" she looked to her.
"Did you and Sweetie Belle ever get that honey or the baking soda?" Apple Bloom asked.
Both of them stopped and looked to one another, "Didn't you…!? I thought…? Uh oh," they both looked back to Trinny.
Folding her ears back, Trinny snorted, "Knew I forgot something…"
