Chapter Thirteen

A Story Continues

"Here you go," Trinny handed out the cupcakes with a smile, "Please enjoy."

All the fillies and colts lined up for a delicious treat. Though they could hardly wait, but they kept in an orderly line knowing that they would get to enjoy a freshly baked delight. There seemed to be more than there were the day before. It must have spread that a wonderful story was being told and others wanted to listen. From fillies and colts to mares and stallions, more and more started to settle into the schoolyard. Finally the line started to shrink, as did the cupcake supply.

"That's every pony," Scootaloo wiped her brow, "And it looks like there are still a few cupcakes left and the special ones for ourselves," she licked her lips.

"Sorry about forgetting the ingredients," Apple Bloom apologized to Trinny once more.

"Think nothing of it my dear," she smile, "I'll just stop in the morning for them. No big deal."

Apple Bloom sighed. She still felt bad that they had forgotten Trinny's lotion ingredients. Trinny had done so much for them and they couldn't even remember to gather honey and baking soda. Instead they ran into the Sugarcube Corner and greedily drooled over sugar coated pastries. Trinny didn't seem to mind though. She always found a way to make things a positive. Looking up to her, Apple Bloom smiled.

"Hmm…," Sweetie Belle opened the last box, "We still have a lot… I guess I could take something home for Rarity… If that would be okay?"

Trinny smiled as she rolled her eyes up, "I don't know… I don't think you'll have to take it home," she motioned to a group of figures coming into the schoolyard.

Twilight was leading the group with Spike right at her side. Next to her came the Apples, Granny Smith and all. Just next to them, Rarity trotted up with a smile on her face and a spring in her step. Zooming overhead, Rainbow Dash zigged and zagged with greatest of ease. They all seemed to have high spirits as they approached.

"Hello every pony!" Twilight greeted the large group, "Wow… a lot more than yesterday."

"Applejack! Big Mac! Granny Smith!" Apple Bloom and Babs Seed ran up to them.

"Hey little sis," Applejack rubbed Apple Bloom on the head, "Glad we made it."

"Eyup…," Big Mac agreed.

"Me too," Rarity smiled, "I wouldn't have known where to meet if it weren't for this letter that appeared on my sewing machine," she held it out.

"Same here," Rainbow Dash held out one too, "It just appeared out of nowhere when I was practicing."

"We got one too when we were harvesting apples," Granny Smith held out her own.

They were the letters that Trinny had written and sent off with a pop. Apple Bloom looked back to Trinny, who was smiling. Just how was she able to send the letters to them and just where they were at?

"Sorry about shooing you two away earlier," Applejack brought Apple Bloom and Babs Seed close, "There was a lot more work than we thought. We really could've use your help."

"Really?" Apple Bloom was surprised.

"Eyup," Big Mac nodded his head.

"Hey squirt," Rainbow Dash landed next to Scootaloo, "Sorry about leaving you behind. I just so excited… and flew off… without you…," she nervously laughed.

"It's cool," Scootaloo couldn't stay mad at her idol and mentor.

"And I'm sorry that I got so mad at you Sweetie Belle," Rarity hugged her little sister, "Those accessories you made inspired me to make a whole new line. If it weren't for you, I would still be sitting in a creative slump. So…," she smiled, "Thank you."

Sweetie Belle smiled, "You're welcome."

"Come on every pony," Applejack motioned, "Let's get a seat."

Each went off with their appropriate family or idol. Trinny made sure to hand out the treats that were left. There was just enough for every pony to enjoy. Sounds of happy mouths and bellies filled the air. Everything grew quiet and every pony sat down to hear the story. Apple Bloom and Babs Seed made room for Trinny to sit next to them. Once every pony found a seat, Twilight was able to begin.

"Let's see where I left off…," Twilight looked through the book, "Ah," she found the spot, "Cherry Blossom and Pumpkin Seed just agreed to travel together to find the Mare of Destiny…"

"We should go together," they suggested as the same time.

It was agreed. The two young fillies started to run through the long grass towards the mountains that never seemed to get closer. They didn't mind though. Pumpkin Seed said whatever the buzzing in her mind said and Cherry Blossom would listen with the tickle inside her coming out on the occasion. Pumpkin Seed would looked to her and her lips would curl up as high as they would go.

Past the field of long swaying grass, the two fillies came to a great ravine. Instead of green grass at their hooves, there was grainy sand that slipped away. The mountains were beyond this rocky ravine and they knew that they had to go there. Following the only path they could, the pair set out through the windy ravine with the sinking sand. The walls were tall and jagged. Swirls of greys, browns and reds were painted across the walls. The two fillies could help but stare at the patterns of colors. They had never seen such… beauty. Though the sight was amazing, the mountains weren't getting any closer. They shook their heads and continued on.

They couldn't tell how long they had walk, but they could only hope that they were getting closer. The ravine walls were so high now that they couldn't see the mountains. There was the possibility of turning back, but what good would that do? So on they went.

"Did you hear that?" Pumpkin Seed suddenly stop.

Looking around, Cherry Blossom didn't see anything, "I think that it's just us echoing off the walls… See," she took in a deep breath, "HELLO!" she yelled.

The walls began to echo back with her loud greeting.

"See," Cherry Blossom started to trot on, "Just the ravine being friendly."

"Hello to you too," a little voice greeted them back.

"I guess it's being extra friendly," Pumpkin Seed looked to Cherry Blossom.

The tickle in Cherry Blossom's belly came out just a little. It wasn't quite as big at the last time, but with it echoing off the walls it filled the air around them.

"WOW!" a little blue pony with a mane of white, red and orange jumped out from behind some rocks.

She was younger than them and had a horn protruding from her forehead. Neither of them had ever seen a pony with a horn before. There seemed to be a glow that twisted around it. Before they could say anything, she had run up to them.

"That was the most AMAZING noise I've ever heard!" the corners of her mouth curled up.

"That horn coming out of your head is pretty interesting too," Pumpkin Seed stared at it.

"Hey," the little blue pony sat down, "Where are your horns?"

They looked to one another, "We don't have horns," they explained.

"Really," she seemed confused, "Because every pony I know has one."

It took a little explaining on each other part, but they finally figured out that what was what. The little blue pony was Unicorn and all of her fellow ponies had horns like her. They could perform what they called 'magic', but the little pony couldn't quite explain what it was.

"My name is Opal Fire by the way," she introduced herself, "I loved that sound you made just before. It made me feel so light inside."

The fillies introduced themselves and explained why they were in the ravine.

"How strange," Opal Fire comment, "I too was told to leave home until I learned how to act like other Unicorns. I've tried to explain this tingling I feel through my body, but no pony wanted to listen. It just felt so good when I was with my friends."

"Really?" Pumpkin Seed wondered out loud.

"Well…," Opal Fire traced her hoof through the sand, "My family didn't like my friends. They were afraid of them."

"Why?" Cherry Blossom question.

"They're dragons," she blurted out, "I know what you're thinking, but these dragons would never burn down a forest or knock over a village or steal. They're really nice," she promised, "That's why I'm out here… I was taking my friends to a safe place where they wouldn't have to worry about being hurt by others," she got up with a sigh, "I haven't gone back yet because I still want to be friends with the dragons… That's not very Unicorn like, but," her lips curled up, "I met an old grey Unicorn that said there was a Mare of Destiny that lived in a cave in the mountains and she could change my fate."

They couldn't believe it. How was it that they too had met an old grey mare, save for the fact that she didn't have a horn and she told them all the same thing? It didn't matter they guessed. All that matter is that they are all going to the same place and that a journey was better with more traveling companions than none.

Through the ravine the three young fillies went. The ravine eventually gave way to an open glade and the mountain came back into the sight. They had come so far and their goal didn't seem so distance now. The tickle inside of Cherry Blossom fluttered about at the sight of the mountains. She couldn't understand why it was fluttering about. She was going to the Mare of Destiny to get rid of the tickle. Was it scared? Did it know what she was doing? Or was it something else?

Before she could answer these internal questions, she was interrupted by Opal Fire.

"We're almost there! We're almost there!" she jumped up and down.

They had made it to the edge of mountains. The grass and trees stopped abruptly and gave way to the grey earth tone stones. It was going to be a climb, but looking back at where they came from… it didn't seem so far. Though they were young little fillies, they had managed to travel on their own to a place that was only a small mound in the distance. Now the mountain stood be them with all its majesty. Clouds hovered over the peak to a point where it couldn't be made out.

"How far do you think it goes up!?" Opal Fire excitedly jumped and down, "Do you think that goes all the way up to the sky!?"

Pumpkin Seed looked up, "It probably goes way, way, way up into the sky. I don't know if it goes past it though. If it did, that would probably make it the biggest mountain ever. I wonder if there's a lot of snow up there. I bet it would be pretty deep. Though if it went past the sky, then it would go past the clouds which means that it might not snow on the peak. So that would make them bare. If their bare than they're just rocky," she took in a deep breath, "That wouldn't make for a very pretty mountain peak. Every pony knows that mountains have snow on them. Like a little white cap…"

"Wow… she sure can talk a lot," a little voice whispered into Cherry Blossom's ear.

"Yeah," another agreed, "But she is right. A mountain really isn't a mountain without a snowy cap."

"Definitely," Opal nodded her head in agreement, "Wait!? Who said that!?" she jumped three feet in the air.

"Who said what?" Pumpkin Seed looked around.

Cherry Blossom looked to either side. Her eyes met with two pairs of eyes. Following them down, she found that they belonged two fillies. One was silver like the lining of the clouds with a mane of white. The other was a light blue like a drop of water with mane of black. Each one had an eye that was purple and the other being blue. On their sides they seemed to have some feathers tied to them, but they looked more like bird wings.

"I was wondering when Pegasi were going to make an appearance. Right squirt?" Rainbow Dash roughly rubbed Scootaloo's head.

"Right!" she agreed.

Twilight yawned, "That sounds like a good place to stop for the day," she looked to the west, "Looks like the sun is getting ready to set."

It had been a long day and many of the fillies and colts were having a hard time keeping their eyes open. Dinner time was approaching so many bellies were starting to grumble. Many of the ponies started to say their goodbyes and part ways. The Crusaders met up to see what each other thought about the story so far.

"They sure are brave for going out into the world all by themselves," Babs Seed commented.

"That would be amazing if we could go on an awesome journey," Scootaloo fluttered with excitement.

"It would be the most amazing, super awesome, terrific journey ever!" Sweetie Belle agreed.

Apple Bloom thought for a moment, "Do you really think that they will ask this Mare of Destiny to change their fate?"

They looked to one another and started to ponder the same thing. The problems that the little fillies had seemed like everyday things that they did. Laughing and talking about how they felt. They were even friends with a dragon. They didn't seem too different from them, but their fellow ponies thought they were strange and told them to leave until they learned to be like every pony else. In some ways, the Crusaders were a lot like them.

"Alright girls," Applejack came up to the group, "Time to get on home and get some grub in our bellies. Come on Apple Bloom. Babs Seed."

Apple Bloom looked to Trinny, "Can Trinny spend the night with us again."

"Well of course she can," Applejack was more than happy to have her.

"Actually," Twilight interrupted, "Trinity is staying with me tonight at the Golden Oak Library. We got to talking when she visited earlier and she had such an amazing repertoire of spells. She said that she would even teach me a few."

"I have no doubts that you'll pick them up pretty quickly," Trinny smiled, "You were always a good student."

Twilight blushed, "Thank you. Anyway," she smiled, "Spike and I will be here tomorrow at two again and we can find out about the new ponies that Cherry Blossom, Pumpkin Seed and Opal Fire have met," even she sounded excited to find out what happen next, "How does that sound?"

"Yay!" the Crusaders cheered.

Every pony said their goodbyes and that they would see them tomorrow. They each went their own way. Apple Bloom was happy that the day ended so well. With the hungry beetles threatening the apples this morning to being kicked out of their clubhouse, it was looking like it was going to be a terrible day. But they all survived and managed to end up with a smile on their face and a cupcake in their belly. It was all possible thanks to Trinny. She was the one that brought those smiles to their faces and brightened their day.

Apple Bloom knew that they had to do something nice for her.

"Hey Babs," Apple Bloom whispered to her, "Trinny really helped us out today. I think we should do something for her."

"Definitely," she agreed.

"Let's gather up the girls early tomorrow and think of something extra special to do for her," Apple Bloom giggled with delight.
