CHAPTER 15:
It was on one of the mornings of the rainy season. It was still dark outside and this "mysterious illness" had gotten worse and worse from the weeks. But it was on this exact morning that Inuyasha awoke to a shocking discovery.
He was sound asleep on the tatami next to his mother when he heard screams coming from a room on the other end of the mansion. He lifted his head, only being able to hear these screams since his ears were more tuned than normal human hearing.
Being as curious as he was, he rose from his bed and walked to the door peeking his head into the hallway. The thumping of running feet could be heard from pretty far away.
He looked back at his mother who was still asleep, and then turned back to the hall. He stepped out shutting the door behind him.
He walked the long hall as he could hear crying coming not too far away from where he was.
He saw the light of a lit lantern in one of the rooms and the door wide open. A men fled from the room with a terror look on his face along with two wet nurses.
Inuyasha was almost run over by them but he went and looked inside of the room as well.
There, lying in the middle of the floor was one of the ladies of the house. She was squirming in pain with foam oozing from her mouth as she began to vomit on the floor. That was when he say bug demons beginning to crawl from the woman's mouth.
That was the breaking point for him. He turned and ran for his life back to his room with his mother. He had never seen anything like that before.
He slammed the door shut once he was back in the room. The loud noise had not seemed to be affecting his mothers sleep. He turned to Izayoi and began to shake her to wake up. He wanted to leave but he didn't want to go anywhere without his mom.
"Izayoi slowly turned to Inuyasha and looked at him, "What is it?" She asked, her voice was a little weak. Inuyasha lit one of the lanterns and saw that his mother had gotten very feverish. She was burning up. Inuyasha wanted her sickness to be anything but the poisonous demons that have attacked the house.
The commotion was much worse now. Terror had spread through out and so had the demons. Everyone sounded as if the demons were consuming them slowly.
Izayoi knew something was very wrong with herself. She didn't want Inuyasha to be there any longer now. She didn't want the same fate to befall him like the others there.
"Inuyasha, listen to me,…" Izayoi said trying to muster as much strength as she could.
"I need you to leave, to run, run as fast as you can and never look back at this place," She said putting her hand on her son's shoulder. She pleaded with her voice as well as with her eyes. She didn't want to put her only child in any such danger; the same danger that seemed to be creeping closer with every moment passing.
Inuyasha was going to opposing, small tears filling his eyes at that. But he was taught to always follow what your parents tell you, because they know what is best for you. He nodded his head as he wrapped his small arms around his mother for a farewell embrace.
Izayoi could feel the tears in Her eyes. It shrouded her vision ever so slightly as she watched Inuyasha sneak out the back and never seeing him look back like she told him.
She could hear the running right out of her room now, She knew it would only make it much more painful if she were to try and move. So she lay there at the ground staring up at the ceiling abover her, closing her eyes.
All she wanted to do now was remember all the happy memories she had. The ones where she and her love first met, first kissed, first touched, first loved. And it was in that moment in her mind that Inutaisho seemed to have came to her.
"I'm sorry I was unable to keep my promise to you" Izayoi said with such a sad expression. Like she had failed the love of her life.
"You haven't failed anything," Inutaisho said coming to her and embracing her in his arms once more.
"Our son will grow into a strong man, he will survive this, he has your will power to survive," Inutaisho said with a longing embrace still lingering.
"Is this truly heaven…?" Izayoi asked looking up at Inutaisho.
"We are only at the border of the two worlds, I will be unable to travel with you to the other world" He said with a small sign of sadness.
"It is my job to protect Inuyasha from this point. You have done all you can as my woman and as a loving mother to our son. You deserve a much long needed rest now."
"I will only be but a while and when my time has come I will finally be able to join you in the other world," Inutaisho went on explaining to Izayoi.
Izayoi nodded her head as the white space faded away from the two of them as a river with a bridge appeared.
"Is that where I cross?" Izayoi asked looking at the wooden structure of wonder. With carved symbols of the gods all over it, shw as certain that was the road to the other world.
That was when she took one more; everlasting embrace with her love. Knowing it was only to be not much longer before she could be with him once again.
He part was over, she had lived as full as she could and it was now her time to join the gods in a place of sanctuary.
Izayoi's body lie in the room that the demons were now destroying and devouring everything in there. But her soul was at peace now. The demonic disease spread rapidly as she felt no pain in her passing. Trusting in her husbands words that he would be sure that Inuyasha would be safe, and that he would live on for his mother and father.
But as Izayoi;s chapter came to a close, Inuyasha's chapter had just begun. The start of a new era where he would carry the bloodline of Inutaisho and become the next great demon.
