Tracing Steps
Finn stepped into the Prison and looked around. His outlook on this world was growing more bleak by the second. His belief that it was fake was also weakening. He had recently begun to remember events from the world he was stuck in. In the end, he had decided that if it was fake, he wished he could simply die to go home and if it was real, it wasn't a life worth living.
Finn walked over to one of the guards and the guard sneered at him.
"Finally got convicted son?" the guard asked.
"Actually, I need to see your records for Cody," Finn replied.
"Why?" the guard questioned. "He did his time and got out."
"I need to know how often he got into a fight and if he ever tried to kill anyone in here," Finn replied. "And I need to know who visited him most often."
"I can't give you the files," the guard sighed. "But I can answer those questions. Cody was very violent. His sentence was extended by a year for it. He killed two inmates but then he was suddenly released early for good behavior. While he was here, two cops kept visiting him, one of them with their son and they kept mentioning some woman and a Lord or something. But I don't know who they were."
Finn nodded and left. He pulled out his phone to call Bonnie just as it began to ring and displayed her number. He looked around carefully then answered.
"Yeah?" Finn answered.
"Mitch Petrikov is Simon Petrikov's son," Bonnie stated. "Simon Petrikov is the lead investigator in Marceline's death."
"I went to the prison," Finn stated. "Cody had three visitors. Two cops and the son of one of them. They apparently mentioned a woman and some Lord."
"I see," Bonnie said. "I'm sending you a picture of Simon and Mitch. See if they can recognize them. If they're both in on this, this might be bigger than we think."
Finn recieved the pictures and walked back in, showing the man behind the desk. The man nodded.
"That's one of the cops and his son," the guard said. "Not sure who they are, but that's definitely them."
Finn thanked him then left, texting Bonnie that it was them. As a response, he got a picture of Blaze. Simon Petrikov looked like Mitch but with longer hair and a goatee. Blaze, had blood red hair slicked back, red-brown eyes, pale skin, and a facial expression saying that he knew something no one else did. Finn turned, returning to the guard again and the guard confirmed him as the other visitor. Finn thanked him and left, texting Bonnie again.
"Got their names," Finn stated.
"Can we meet?" was Bonnie's reply.
"Sure, where," Finn asked.
Bonnie sent him an address and told him to get a cab since it was faster and she would pay when he got there. Finn did as instructed and the cab parked at a diner. Finn went inside but Bonnie wasn't there. Finn payed the cab driver and he left then Finn went into thebrestaurant and sat down. A waiter asked if he wanted something to eat and he said he'd wait. After three hours of her not showing up or sending him a text or call, he finally sighed and got up to leave. As he walked down the street, he noticed a pair of people walking behind him, nearly a hundred yards away and closing. He turned into an alleyway, calmly walking to the end then using a dumpster to scramble over the wall just before his shadows reached the alleyway. He waited but it was silent. He dropped to the ground and began walking again. By the time he got home, it was late.
"Where were you?" his mother snarled.
"I was supposed to meet with Bonnie but she never showed," Finn shrugged.
"That's a shame," his mother said. "Go to bed. You're grounded."
Finn stared at him a moment then turned and walked to his room. For the next three days, he did as instructed, calling and messaging Bonnie every chance he got but she never replied. He was starting to worry.
