A/N: I'm finally updating. I considered putting this story on hiatus, but I changed my mind. After all, I had such a fun time writing it, I didn't want to not post it. Jess just came back from his teacher training (kind of like a month long PD) and they're getting ready to call the grandparents, who are in Martha's Vineyard for the summer, and tell them Rory's pregnant. Enjoy!
Jess turned to Rory. "You ready for this?"
"Nope," Rory answered him truthfully. "But we might as well do it."
Rory put the phone on speaker and then pulled out the piece of paper that had her grandparent's cabin's phone number on it. She dialed and listened to the ringing. She was sure that when they answered the pounding of her heart would be obvious. She almost couldn't hear the ringing of the phone over it.
"Hello," Emily answered.
"Hi, Grandma," Rory said.
"Rory!" Emily exclaimed. "What a surprise. Is something wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong, Mrs. Gilmore," Jess answered for her.
"Jess?" Emily questioned.
"Yes, Grandma. We're on speaker," Rory explained. "We were really hoping to talk to you and Grandpa together."
"Richard," Emily called, pulling the phone away from her ear. She looked on the phone and saw a small button that said speaker. She pushed it as Richard came into the room.
"Yes, Emily?" Richard asked.
"Rory and Jess have called," Emily told him. "They said they wanted to talk to us together."
"Hello, Rory, Jess," Richard said.
"Hi, Grandpa," Rory said. "We aren't bothering you, are we?"
Jess threw Rory a reproachful look. That wasn't exactly what she was supposed to be saying. She smiled sweetly at him. She was just trying to be polite (and avoid unpleasant things for as long as she could).
"Not at all, Rory," Richard told her. "Did you have something you wanted to tell us? Nothing's wrong, I hope?"
Jess smirked at his wife. Richard had cut right to the chase. It looked as though she had no choice now.
"Nothing's wrong, Grandpa," Rory assured him. "I just called to tell you that Jess and I…well…I'm pregnant."
"Rory, that's marvelous!" Richard exclaimed. "I'll have a great grandchild!"
"That is quite exciting, Rory," Emily agreed. "Congratulations to both of you! I assume you've seen a gynecologist."
"Of course, she has," Jess answered, knowing Rory needed a bit of a break. "When she went—"
"When did she go?" Emily interrupted.
Rory's eyes widened. She had nothing to say to that. If she told Emily the truth, she would surely do the math. She hadn't come into this conversation with the intention of lying about anything. If she said she didn't remember, she would be lying and Emily would know it was a while ago.
"Oh, Emily, what does that matter?" Richard asked. "What did the doctor say?"
Rory sighed in relief at her grandfather. He had definitely just saved her, knowing or not. "He said I was two months along, the baby seemed healthy and so did I. He, of course, wants me to keep coming back for appointments and things, but so far, he foresees no complications. I'm young and healthy."
"Fantastic," Richard said.
"Rory, I assume you aren't drinking coffee anymore?" Emily asked. "You know how unhealthy caffeine is."
Rory grimaced. "Just two cups a day, Grandma. No more, no less. And Dad and Jess enforce that rule every chance they get…including trying to get me to drink less."
"Good for them," Emily said, trying not to roll her eyes at Rory calling Luke Dad. "I think you should listen to them."
"Be careful with the coffee, Rory," Richard cautioned her, not telling her to stop altogether, knowing how much coffee Lorelai had drank during both her pregnancies.
"I am, Grandpa," Rory assured him. "I promise."
"Now, I don't mean to cut you two off, but we do have dinner reservations," Richard reminded his wife and told the two.
"Oh, we do!" Emily exclaimed, suddenly remembering. "These are at the top restaurant down here, they are very hard to get and—"
"Of course, we don't want to keep you from those!" Jess said. "Enjoy your evening."
"Thanks for calling," Emily politely said.
"Not a problem," Rory said. "Goodbye."
"Goodbye," Richard and Emily said simultaneously. Both Emily and Rory switched off the speaker phone at the same time.
Rory and Jess breathed a collective sigh of relief. "Well, that wasn't so bad," Jess pointed out.
"True, but if it wasn't for Grandpa, it had the potential to be disastrous," Rory pointed out.
"Thank goodness for small favors," Jess said, completely serious.
Rory nodded. "Definitely. We'll have to call Mom later and let her know how it went. I'll have to tell her I'm better at bending the truth then she is."
Jess laughed. "Oh, I'm sure she'll appreciate that bulletin."
Rory smiled. "You know it." She sighed again. "I've missed you."
Jess took her face in his hands and gently kissed her. "I've missed you, too."
Rory raised her eyebrows suggestively. "You have? How much?"
Jess kissed her again, injecting a bit more passion into this one. "You want me to show you exactly how much?"
As Jess began to trail kisses down Rory's neck she was just able to gasp, "You'd better."

A few weeks passed with nothing eventful happening with Rory's pregnancy. She was still experiencing bouts of morning sickness, but as she began to move out of her first trimester, they began to ease up a bit.
Lying in bed, Rory went over her calendar in her head. She had begun to keep track of how far along she was in her pregnancy. The week before, she had just hit the middle of her fourth month (although her grandmother still didn't know about the discrepancy in time) and she had gone for an ultrasound. Her doctor again said she was fine and set an appointment for the next month. He said that the next month, they would be able to find out whether they were having a boy or girl. Rory wasn't exactly sure she wanted to find out though. She was going to wait until the event got closer to broach the subject with Jess.
Looking over at Jess, she saw he was still asleep. She got up to take a shower. As she looked down to find her house shoes, she wasn't able to suppress a small scream.
Jess quickly woke up and saw Rory's panicked face. "What's wrong?"
"I can't see my feet!" Rory exclaimed. "I'm huge!"
Jess tried very hard not to laugh at her shock, knowing she wouldn't appreciate it at all. "Rory, honey, you aren't huge."
"Yes, I am!" Rory argued. "I'm only four and a half months pregnant! I shouldn't be this big already. Oh God, what if I'm having twins?"
"Rory, you need to calm down," Jess told her soothingly. "You aren't any larger than other pregnant women are at this stage."
Rory looked at him with raised eyebrows, a teasing glint in her eyes. "What other pregnant women have you been looking at?"
Jess saw the glint and was glad this wasn't an angry mood swing. He didn't want to push her though, so he just laughed. "None! Seriously though, ask Lorelai, I'm sure she'll tell you the same thing."
Rory shook her head. "I can't believe I'm not going to be able to see my feet for the rest of my pregnancy. How am I going to match my shoes?"
Jess burst out laughing and continued to laugh as Rory went into the bathroom to take a shower.
Short and not very eventful, I know, but hopefully you liked it. Hopefully you're still reading, for that matter. If you are, leave me a review, and I'll try to update sooner (I know, I know, I always say that) and thanks for reading!
