A/N: Did I say I'd update every Friday? So sorry about that! I promise this whole story is written, I just don't watch GG much anymore and I've been bitten by another fandom. However, I'm not going to not finish this story…I just may leave long intervals between each update. If you're still with me, enjoy!

Rory laid in bed and groaned quietly. She didn't want to wake Jess up, but she couldn't sleep. She had her five month ultrasound the next morning and seemed the baby knew that. It would not stay still!

The first movements she had felt were a week ago at Luke's. Rory was also certain the baby hadn't been this active even then. It felt like her child was doing flips. Maybe it would be a gymnast. The way it was looking now, it was going to be an insomniac…and was making Rory one too!

Rory groaned again and changed position, hoping that would calm the baby down. She sighed when it seemed to make the baby more active. She moved forcefully back to her original position.

"Something wrong?" Jess asked sleepily.

"Did I wake you up?" Rory questioned guiltily. "I'm sorry."

"It's fine," Jess assured her. "Something wrong?"

"It's your child," Rory told him. "It won't stay still or let me get any sleep. I had almost fallen asleep when it decided to practice back handsprings or something."

Jess chuckled. "So it's my child now? But I'm sorry. Gosh, I hope it's not practicing back handsprings. I know how you feel about cheerleaders. Especially if it's a boy!"

Rory decided now was as good of a time as any to broach the subject of the sex of their child. "If you wanted, we could find out whether it is a boy or girl tomorrow. They gynecologist said he will probably be able to tell tomorrow."

"If I want to?" Jess asked. "Don't you want to?"

"I don't think so," Rory admitted. "I mean, we weren't planning on being all sexist with the nursery, were we?" When Jess shook his head, Rory continued. "Not only that, we pretty much have the names picked out, and I think it might be kind of nice to be surprised."

Jess tilted his head. He did kind of want to know what the baby was going to be, but at the same time, he didn't want to make Rory angry. Then again, being surprised could be fun. He wouldn't die if they didn't find out and he enjoyed making Rory happy too.

Jess nodded. "Okay, let's be surprised."

Rory's eyes widened. "Really?"

"Sure, why not?" Jess said.

Rory smiled and sat up to hug Jess. "Being surprised will be fun, I promise. If we ever have another kid, you can decide whether we find out or not."

Jess tried not to laugh. She kept saying, "If we have another kid." He hoped they would someday. Then again, he was not the one giving birth to them. After this, she may not want another one. Maybe they could adopt.

Rory looked down at her stomach. "Our child must have finally fallen asleep. Or at least gotten tired of the whole cheerleader routine. It needs to get all cheerleading desires out of its system before it's born."

"Now it's our child," Jess grumbled.

Rory looked at him and Jess quickly put his hands up in surrender. "Just stating a fact. Let's go to sleep."

Rory and Jess lay back down. Rory put her head on Jess' chest and he began running his fingers through her hair in a soothing rhythm. He smiled when, not five minutes later, he heard Rory's breathing even out. Maybe this child wouldn't disturb her sleep too much in the next five months. After all, neither of them would be getting any sleep when the child was born. He left his fingers tangled in her hair and fell asleep dreaming of what their child would look like, hoping it had Rory's beautiful blue eyes.

"Well, Rory, everything looks good with your child," Dr. Sandefur told her.

"Thank you so much, Doctor," Rory said. "We don't want to know the sex of the baby though."

Dr. Sandefur nodded. "Understandable."

"I do want to know one thing," Rory said. "I'm not having twins, am I?"

Dr. Sandefur smiled. "It doesn't look like it. In fact, from this sonogram I can say with certainty that there is only one baby growing inside you."

Rory sighed in relief. "Good."

"And everything is okay?" Jess asked. "Is there anything she needs to be doing?"

"Everything is fine," Dr. Sandefur confirmed. "She is doing everything right. You don't drink and you don't smoke, you really have nothing to worry about. The only thing I would recommend is to ease up on work just a tad and avoid stress as much as you can."

Rory wrinkled her nose slightly at the "ease up on work," comment. She hated sitting at home and doing nothing. She was never one to enjoy just sitting. She always had to be doing something. Maybe she could get away with writing lots of articles at home and e-mailing them in. That was easing up right? At least she wouldn't have to drive to work every day.

"She will follow those recommendations to the T, Doctor," Jess answered for his wife. He knew she would have trouble with some of them, but he was not having anything happen to her. She was his life.

"Yes, Mom," Rory said to her mother over the telephone. Rory and Jess were on their way to the store to go shopping for the nursery. "He said everything was just fine with the baby…Yes, he also said I'm just having one…No, I didn't want to find out the sex…Not yet, Jess and I are going shopping for things for the nursery…Well, I'm sorry you're disappointed…You can come over just as soon as we get home and see them…I know, Mom…Love you too. Bye."

"She wanted to go shopping with you?" Jess guessed.

Rory smiled. "Of course. But she's fine with it."

"She can go," Jess offered.

"Now, come on," Rory coaxed. "You know you want to go. And even if you don't, what are you going to do at home all by yourself. You cancelled your classes for today. Besides, this is something a husband and wife should do together."

Jess smiled. He did want to go, he just thought that if Lorelai wanted to go, she should be able to as well. On the other hand, he knew if Lorelai went, Emma would be jealous. In fact, Emma might throw a fit that she was in school during the whole shopping process and she didn't get to go. Yep, maybe it would be better all around if just he and Rory went.

At the store, Rory was overwhelmed. There was so much to choose from and so much stuff they needed! They quickly went for the basics. Baby bottles, Pampers, baby wipes, baby powder, rattles and other basic things the baby was going to need. Then they went over to look at the cribs. Rory wanted one that had cherry wood instead of any other type. She wanted all the furniture in the room to be cherry wood. They bought a crib, dresser, changing table and Rory was looking at rocking chairs when Jess stopped her.

"Let's not buy a rocking chair," Jess said.

"Why not?" Rory asked. "I am not about to be walking around with this child trying to get it to sleep at three o'clock in the morning. Not only that, but every baby's room has a rocking chair!"

"I know," Jess agreed. "But we've already bought so much today and spent a lot of money on furniture already. Besides, we still have to buy paint or wallpaper for the room and a few toys."

"We already bought some rattles," Rory pointed out. "We can wait on the toys and some clothes and buy them next month."

"Please, Rory," Jess insisted. "Let's wait."

Rory placed her hand gently on her stomach as she felt the baby kick. It was almost like the baby was agreeing with Jess. "Is something going on that I should know about?"

Jess quickly shook his head. "Nope. I'll have to paint or wallpaper the room before we can put any furniture in there anyway, I just don't see the point of buying a rocking chair just yet when it won't go into the room for a few weeks."

Rory squinted. "Well…okay."

Jess inwardly sighed. Luke would've killed him if he let Rory buy a rocking chair. "Okay, so are we painting or are we buying some wallpaper."

Rory bit her lip. "Well, why don't we look at some wallpaper. If we can't find any we like, we can look at paint."

Jess agreed. As they went over to the wallpaper section, he looked over the wallpaper quickly. The ones he saw seemed incredibly gender specified. There were flowers, which would obviously only work in a girls room. There were different kinds of sports, which would obviously be in a boy's room.

"Look!" Rory exclaimed. "Isn't this cute?"

Jess walked over to look at her choice and smiled. It was called Circus Fun. The sample had circus animals and ringmasters. There were even a few clowns. The paper had a thin, solid black line in the middle, dividing the top and bottom. The top had all the animals against a background of light blue. The bottom had all the people, ringmasters, clowns, tightrope walkers and the crowds against a background of light green.

"It's perfect," Jess agreed.

"Great!" Rory cried. "This is the one I want. It's okay with you?"

Jess nodded. "I'll see if Luke will help me put it up and which weekend would be good for him. You know you can't help, right?"

Rory sighed and rolled her eyes. "I know, I know. Mom and I will sit downstairs and knit or something."

Jess burst out laughing. "I would like to see the two of you knitting."

Rory narrowed her eyes. "Oh, shut up. Just because we can't knit doesn't mean we won't learn." Rory tilted her head and thought over what she had said for a few minutes. "Maybe we'll watch classic movies."

Jess nodded. "Now that's more like it. You know, this wallpaper will be perfect if we have a boy or a girl."

"Yes, it's about the only one that isn't gender specific," Rory observed.

"Not only that, but it has blue and green," Jess commented. "Blue for a boy and green for a girl, since green is the new pink."

Rory groaned and hit Jess on the arm. Jess smiled at her reaction. He had only said that to tease her about Sherry's baby shower ages ago. Rory had turned her face away slightly after she hit him. She did think that was one of the many stupid things that had happened at Sherry's baby shower, but she still smiled. It wasn't that Jess had said it, it was that he had remembered.

"Luke!" Lorelai shouted, walking into the diner. No eyes even shot to the door anymore. They all knew it was Lorelai and they all knew not to be shocked by her method of getting the owner's attention.

Luke, for his part, knew Rory had her appointment today and he hurried out of the kitchen. "Is everything okay?" Luke asked as he came around the counter and sat on the stool beside the one Lorelai occupied.

"She said the doctor said everything was fine," Lorelai confirmed. "I asked her if she wanted to meet me here for some food, but she said they were going to go shopping for things for the baby."

"Did you tell her not to buy a rocking chair?" Luke asked.

"No, of course not," Lorelai said. "But I'm sure Jess won't let her buy one. He won't ruin your surprise."

"I hope not," Luke mused.

Lorelai smiled. "You know, I think it's really sweet that you are building my daughter a rocking chair."

Luke smiled too. "I've told you before, she's our daughter. Not to mention this child will be our grandchild. I love them both very much. This is my chance to make something for Rory and the baby, since I didn't get to make anything for her when she was a baby."

Lorelai's smiled widened and she felt her heart swell with love for this amazing man. She was so lucky to have found him and she was so lucky that he loved her daughter as much as she did. She quickly placed a kiss on his lips. "I love you."

Luke pecked her lips as she pulled back and expressed the same sentiment. "I love you too."

Lorelai pouted. "Do you have to go back to working? Can't Ceaser handle it for a while? Can't we go upstairs and—"

"Lorelai!" Luke exclaimed. "Not here and definitely not now. It's almost time for the lunch rush. Ceaser would kill me if I left now."

"Later then?" Lorelai tried to bargain.

"Later you have to pick up the kids from school," Luke reminded her.

Lorelai sighed dramatically and leaned her head forward to rest on his chest. Luke smiled at her display. God, he loved this woman. He ran his fingers through her hair and whispered, "We'll find time, I promise." He kissed the top of her head to enforce said promise.

Lorelai lifted her head and stared him down. "I'm holding you to that!"

Now, I know Rory likes to make lists and stuff, but I wanted you all to be surprised with the gender, so I'm making her want to be surprised too. Also, I know they bought kind of a lot at the store, but this is fiction…so go with it? Anyway, I hope you're still with me and still liking it. If you are, please review? And thanks for reading!
