Disclaimer: I don't own…except maybe one or two people that you don't recognize.
A/N: Okay, so a lot of you wanted Rory to have twins. I had already written the whole thing before I started posting (hard to believe with these long waits, huh) and I really struggled with what to give her. Hopefully you'll be happy with the outcome. Enjoy!
"Progress report," Lorelai announced, coming into Rory's room. "Jess just got your voicemail and he's coming right now. He is thirty minutes away, but with all the speeding he's going to do, I'd say he'll be here in fifteen."
Rory couldn't help but smile. She was sure her husband was panicking. "Well, progress report on me, I'm five centimeters and the nurse went to get me an epidural. I wish she would hurry back with it!"
"Well, you could always use the ice chips to pelt the other nurses before she gets back," Lorelai joked.
Rory rolled her eyes. "I am not going to pelt the nurses!"
Lorelai smiled knowingly. "When your epidural runs out I think you'll change your mind."
Rory shook her head. "I'm not going to be mean to the poor nurses."
"Are you calling me mean!" Lorelai cried.
"I'll let you answer that one, Mother," Rory said nonchalantly.
Lorelai put her hand over her heart. "Oh, you wound me!"
"Did Lane pick up the twins yet?" Rory wondered.
Lorelai quickly found a clock in the room and glanced at it. "She's got another hour yet."
Rory looked sheepish. She didn't even think to look at the clock. "Oh. How is Dad doing?"
Lorelai shook her head as she thought of Luke's panicking when he walked into the waiting room. "He's…been better."
Rory full out laughed. "You know, he can come back here and see me if he's that worried about it."
"Hospitals freak him out," Lorelai reminded Rory. "Seeing you hooked up to a heart monitor would probably make it worse. I wouldn't be surprised if he's out there staring at his shoes right now."
Rory chuckled at her mom's suspicion. She remembered the time Richard was in the hospital and Luke had brought her mom and had sat outside her grandpa's room doing just that.
The nurse, Carrie Nelson, came bustling in quickly with the materials for Rory's epidural. She looked critically at Lorelai. "Haven't we met somewhere before?"
"Mom…you didn't pelt the nurses when you had Aaron and Emma, did you?" Rory wondered.
Lorelai gasped and suddenly realized this nurse had been her prime nurse seven years ago. At least, until the doctor decided she needed a c-section. "You might remember me," Lorelai agreed. "I think I might've hit you with an ice chip a few years ago."
Rory shook her head. "I promise, I'm not going to be hitting you with any ice chips in the near future."
The nurse looked between Rory and Lorelai. Lorelai tried to put a guilty look on her face while Rory was trying to look sweet and innocent. They pulled it off pretty well, having to master these looks early in life. The nurse nodded after a few seconds and began to administer Rory's epidural.
After the nurse left, promising to be back soon to check Rory's progress, Rory sighed. "I'm so ready to just be finished. I want this baby out of me now!"
Lorelai smiled. "You sound exactly like me. At least you didn't have to wait the full nine months."
Rory nodded. "I think I would've died. I still might!"
Lorelai shook her head. "I doubt it. I don't think anyone's died from waiting to give birth."
"There's a first time for everything," Rory pointed out.
"You weren't much of a trend setter," Lorelai teased.
Suddenly the door to Rory's room burst open. "I'm here!" Jess exclaimed.
Rory raised her eyebrows. "How fast did you go, Jess?"
"What does it matter?" Jess asked. "I'm here and didn't get any speeding tickets."
"I bet Lane will need to go ahead and bring the kids after school," Lorelai thought aloud.
Rory took a deep breath though her next contraction, happy that it wasn't as painful as the last few had been. She figured the epidural must be taking effect. "I think that would be a safe bet."
Lorelai walked over and kissed her daughter on the cheek. "I guess I'll get out of here now and try to make Luke feel better about sitting in a hospital for another couple of hours."
Rory smiled at her mom. "He can go home if he wants."
Lorelai shook her head. "He may hate hospitals but he wouldn't miss this for the world."

"And we have a girl!" Dr. Sandefur announced right before a loud cry was heard from the child.
In mere seconds the baby girl was weighed, measured and wrapped in a tiny blanket with a pink hat on her head. Soon after that, Carrie Nelson was placing the little thing on Rory's chest.
Rory looked up at the nurse, tears of exhaustion and elation on her cheeks. "She's fine? Her heart, her lungs?"
"She tiny, but everything seems normal," Ms. Nelson assured Rory. "We have real cause for worry when the baby doesn't cry, but yours is certainly letting the world know she is here."
"A Gilmore girl through and through," Jess whispered, tears brimming in his eyes.
"What are you going to name the little girl?" Ms. Nelson asked. "We can start filling out her birth certificate right now."
Rory quickly looked at Jess and answered, "Amanda Lane Mariano."
"Wait!" Jess exclaimed.
"Uh-oh," Ms. Nelson muttered. She hoped this discussion wouldn't result in an argument. In her opinion, too many did these days. If couples could just pick out names before the birth things would be so much easier. She would never understand why people waited.
Rory wasn't deterred by Jess. She turned to look at him with a smile on her face as her tears slowed. "Objections?"
Jess smiled as he gently stroked his knuckles down the baby's cheeks. She looked to be content in her mother's arms. "No, I just had another idea."
Rory nodded. She definitely wanted Jess' input and since he didn't give much on the day they discussed names she welcomed it now. "What were you thinking?"
"Lorelai Gilmore Mariano," Jess suggested, quickly. "We could call her Lily. I was thinking Lori, but I thought that sounded too much like Rory and then it would get confusing and… Well, what do you think?"
Rory's smile grew. She loved the idea, but she wanted to make sure Jess wasn't doing this just because he knew she would like it. "Jess…why do you want to name her Lorelai?"
Jess knew Rory was genuinely curious. "I just think it's a good tradition, one that needs to be carried on."
"My mom started it," Rory reminded him. "It's not really a tradition yet, is it?"
"Technically Emily started it," Jess stated. "At least as far back as you can remember. Your mom named you Lorelai, Emily named her firstborn daughter Lorelai and I bet your great grandmother would've too, but she didn't have a daughter. The only thing that made the name Lorelai skip a generation was fate."
"You don't believe in fate," Rory said quietly.
Jess shook his head. "No, but you do. Regardless of what I believe, I think you had a girl so you could continue the tradition."
Rory bit her lip. "Jess…"
Jess could see she still wasn't convinced, so he continued. "I know this little girl is going to be a Gilmore in every sense of the word and I feel as though it would be a disservice to her if she didn't have Gilmore somewhere in her name. She is going to love coffee and junk food and she is going to be smart and beautiful, everything a Lorelai Gilmore should be. Besides, look at her face. Doesn't she just look like a Lorelai?"
Rory laughed and that's when her baby opened her eyes. They were bright blue, the same color as hers and her moms. They looked exactly the same as hers and her moms too. Rory joked about that being creepy before, but now she looked at it as a sign. "Okay. Lorelai Gilmore Mariano."
The nurse smiled hearing this. She wasn't one to get into personal conversations, but she definitely thought Jess had a good argument and she hoped Rory would agree. She not only thought it was cute, but thought it showed how much this man loved his wife. "You're going to have to spell that."
Rory chuckled. "I know."
"Do you want me to go get everyone?" Jess asked. He didn't think he needed to be in here for the spelling anyway.
Rory turned to him. "Yes, but…do you think you could tell everyone I just want to see Mom first?"
Jess nodded. "You got it."
As Jess walked away, Rory smiled. He didn't have to ask why she wanted to see her mom first and she loved that. He knew she needed to tell her mom about the name first. He also knew that with her relationship with her mom, it was only natural for her to want to see Lorelai right after she had a baby. She really loved that man.
Rory kissed her little girl and looked up to see Carrie Nelson staring at her. "Oh, sorry! Lorelai: L-O-R-…"

"We have a girl!" Jess exclaimed upon seeing the family in the waiting room.
"A girl!" Emily exclaimed. The grandparents had been called as soon as Rory and Lorelai had gotten to the hospital.
"Is everything okay?" Luke quickly asked.
"Amanda Lane!" Emma sighed. That was her favorite name of the two Rory and Jess picked. At least that's what she said. It might've been she just wanted Rory to have a girl.
Jess smiled at all the commotion. "Yes, everything's fine. Baby and Mother are both fine. She wants to see all of you…but she just wants to see Lorelai first." He looked over at Lorelai.
"Why?" Lorelai asked.
Jess raised his eyebrows. "I guess you'll see when you get in there."
Lorelai sighed and rolled her eyes. That response was so Jess. In the years she had known him though, she had come to love his crazy responses rather than get annoyed by them.
As they began to walk back to the room the way Jess had came he called over his shoulder, "Hey midget, I wouldn't get too attached to that name."
Are you happy? Even those of you who wanted Rory to have twins? She just had to have a Gilmore girl and I feel like if she ever were to have a baby girl she might name it Lorelai? Anyway, I liked it, so that's why she just had one baby. Besides, I'm pretty sure in an earlier chapter the doctor assured her she was only having one baby. With that being said…the story isn't over yet so don't despair! If you're still reading, please leave me a review…I would love it! Thanks for reading!
