Ch.18: The Past Howls

Everyone was stunned at Duck Dodger's sudden confession. This legendary, great space hero was really Daffy Duck, the Looney Tune from long in the past?

"But that's impossible" said Tech " there's way you can be Daffy Duck. He disappeared centuries ago."

"And where did you think I disappeared to?" asked Daffy dryly, before answering the question himself " The 24 and ½ century, where I became the hero I am now. But I never forgot who I used to be. Forever dreaming and longing for my friends of the past."

"Then you really are him" said Plucky stunned " the one my ancestor idolized so long ago."

"Rasvim" said Daffy, looking back at the jackal " I remember you now. Before the tragedy, before I disappeared, some spaceship landed down on Earth with a white jackal inside. She was wounded and needed help so I took her in. My place was dump but it was all I could spare."

"Then, we were attacked by some other aliens and I had no idea what they were. But it was clear that they wanted us dead. All my friends were on vacation so they had no idea what was going on. And when I finally reached Bugs on his cellphone, he thought it was all a joke! The one time I needed him and he wasn't there."

"Fortunately Rasvim, you came along, stopped the attackers, and gained back your wife. I fainted from the whole ordeal, and when I woke the next morning, I thought it was all just a dream. But it wasn't, wasn't it?"

"No" said Rasvim " it really occurred. I was forever grateful that you had saved my wife. But soon after, she was lost, and I could nothing but grieve. I allied myself with criminals and fiends, causing destruction throughout the universe. Then I heard the stories of the Star Child, and how they could remake the universe to fit anyone's will."

"And that's why you were after Kim" said Ace, looking to see that the little wolf had finally managed to wake Danger up " to change things so that you could have your wife again."

"Correct" said Rasvim " and I cared nothing about who stood in my way."

"Pretty stupid thing to do" said Danger Duck, glaring at Rasvim " you can't just go back, fix your mistakes, and hope things will be better. Loss happens to all of us. Being an orphan I guess I know that better than anyone else. And I don't even know who my parents are."

"I can answer that," said a silky voice, suddenly entering the room.

Surprised, everyone turned and looked in shock as Lady Vixen from the Planet Canya suddenly entered the room. The kitsune observed everyone and their stunned gaze.

"Lady Vixen" said Lexi, surprised " What are you doing here?"

"I came to make sure that the Star Child was safe" said Lady Vixen, looking at Kim " after all, she was born on one of the sub-planets I own."

"If you knew she was the Star Child" said Ace "why didn't you protect her then?"

"Because a curtain of events needed to unfold" said Lady Vixen knowingly, and looked at Daffy " Dear duck, have you ever wondered why you were spared from that tragic day?"

Yes, Daffy had wondered why he was. After he had recovered his memory and learned about the tragedy, Daffy had wondered why he was attacked and then taken away from the scene. What was so special that he needed to be spared, and frozen away in ice?

"Your disappearance was necessary for this future to exist" said Lady Vixen to the duck " Using my powers I foresaw Rasvim's grief and the terror that would unfold. Without you becoming the hero you always dreamed to be, the future looked bleak. So I ordered some people to kidnap you so that your journey could begin."

"You mean…" said Daffy Duck, trying to digest all of this information down " you're the reason I ended up in the future in the first place?!"

"Like I said" said Lady Vixen " it was necessary. If you had never vanished, Duck Dodgers would have never brought peace to Earth and Mars, and the Galactic Protectorate might not exist."

"You would have never been sent to this century if wasn't for your battle with Darkstar, and the loss of your egg was required so that Danger Duck could be born."

At that last statement, everyone in the room seemed to gasp, and all eyes turned to Danger Duck. The black and orange just gaped in disbelief.

"Are…are you saying?" Danger Duck stumbled.

"Yes" said Lady Vixen with a nod " you are Daffy's son."

Danger Duck still couldn't believe his ears. After all of the time he spent wondering who his parents were, who would have guessed that his dad was a famous Looney Tune from the past.

Daffy and Plucky didn't expect it either, and there were a lot of mumbles through the room.

"The Star Child has bonded well with you Danger" said Lady Vixen with a grin " I believe she will do well on your team."

"Uh, thanks" said Danger hesitantly " What are you going to do now?"

"I shall stay here and help Rasvim rebuild what he has lost" said Lady Vixen " and these criminals shall never be free to roam the stars again. But before I do anything else, there is one more thing that needs to be done. Daffy...please go and join your friends."

With that said, the lovely kitsune slowly held up one her hands, and Daffy was consumed by a golden light.

When the light vanished, Daffy was no longer anywhere on Rasvim's world. Instead, he was in a lush, green field, bordered by clouds, that held a very familiar sense in the air.

"Daffy!" suddenly shouted out a voice, making the duck turn around and look behind him " You're back!"

Bugs came over the hill, along with Lola and Tina, and the rest of their Looney Tunes friends. Daffy cried as he suffered from the hugs and tears of his joyful friends. He was joyful too. Happy that he was able to live with any of them again.

Tina placed a huge kiss on his beak, before backing away with a smile. Bugs laughed at the little show.

"Daff" he said " where have you've been all this time?"

"It's a long story Bugs" said Daffy " Let's talk and I'll let you know."
