Hola! Longish chapter, heh. It's 1,500 words long so. You better like it. It's basically just a filler chapter, but I thought it would be cute and funny. There's no one else in it other than Bella and Charlie, except a little of the Cullens but not much. I just had to have at least ONE chapter where HorcruxFinder wouldn't complain about how much she hates Edward. :P
Also...I found out that my sister's been reading these. Ick. Which means I'll have to keep the sex and drugs and drinking and swearing down to a minimum. Just kidding, I don't normally write about that kind of stuff anyway. But yeah. Sorry if it gets a little boring in later chapters, but I don't want her to tell my mom!
Disclaimer: "I really hate how I can barge into your room and be like 'Hey Ali, wanna go to the mall?' and you say yeah and hop up from doing homework and you're already wearing cute clothes and your hair's perfect and you've got your makeup on, whereas if you'd done that to me I'd've been like 'Heck no, I'm ugly!'"--My best friend Hannah. Not exactly a disclaimer but I'm sure Steph doesn't sit around her house in skinny jeans like I do.
Father/Daughter Bonding--
I walked down the stairs the next Saturday, yawning. Last night before I went to bed, Charlie told me he had something special planned for us to do today. I was too tired to question what he was talking about (Emmett and I had been real busy :D) but I figured I'd find out in the morning.
My father was sitting at the kitchen table, slurping down his coffee and reading the sports section. Today was one of the few Saturdays where he wasn't fishing, so he must have something really special planned.
I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders. "Morning, Daddy."
"Morning, Bells." I kissed the top of his head and walked into the kitchen to grab myself a cup of coffee and a pop-tart.
"So what do you have planned for us, Charlie?" I inquired.
He downed the last of his drink and made that weird smacking noise. "Well. I was thinking we could go into Seattle for a round of bowling. This new place just opened…" His voice trailed off at the look on my face; heaving balls and Bella didn't sound like a good combination.
"Or we could just go to a book store?"
I laughed. "Sorry, Charlie. I'd love to go bowling. It sounds…fun."
He grinned, relieved. "Good. Then I thought we'd go to Wings for lunch. Sound okay?"
I nodded. "I'll go shower and be ready in a few."
I showered quickly and dried my hair. My usual makeup routine was a sweep of mascara and chap stick. I threw on a pair of jeans and a random shirt my mother had bought me. I grabbed my purse and headed downstairs.
The drive into Seattle was pleasant. Charlie asked me how school had been going, and I asked him about work. Things were slow, as usual. In my opinion there was really no need for a police department in Forks, but hey, it gave him something to do.
I sighed, and turned the radio on. A familiar tune was just starting, and I turned it up loud. Charlie looked at me funny as I started to dance once I recognized the song.
"Let's drop!" I sang.
"Yeah, come on
Shake, shake…
"I'll take you home
If you don't leave me at the front door.
(Leave me at the front door)
Your body's cold,
But girl, we're getting so warm,
And I was thinking of ways that I could get inside.
(Get inside)
"Tonight you're falling in love,
(Let me go now)
This feeling's tearing me up.
(Here we go now)
"Now, if she does it like this,
Will you do it like that?
Now, if she touches like this,
Will you touch her right back?
Now, if she moves like this,
Will you move like that?
"Come on!
"Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…"
I love this song! I was really getting into it. I was about to break out into the next verse, but I stopped when I heard my father's low baritone voice—
"Your lips tremble,
But your eye's are in a straight stare.
(In a straight stare)
We're on the bed,
But your clothes are laying right there.
And I was thinking of places that I could hide…
(I could hide)"
My mouth fell open in shock. Charlie? Singing? Shake It? How the heck did he even know the words?! It's crazy!
"Tonight you're falling in love," I sang.
"Let me go now," Charlie echoed.
"This feeling's tearing me up!"
"Here we go now…"
"Now, if she does it like this
Will you do it like that?
Now, if she touches like this
Will you touch her right back?
Now, if she moves like this
Will you move like that?"
Our voices sounded so weird together, but the music was contagious and we couldn't stop singing until the song was over.
"Come on!
"Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
"I saw you dancing there,
I couldn't get you off my mind.
But I could tell, that you could tell,
That I was taking my time.
"But I was thinking of ways
To get you staying the night.
Your body's shaking;
Turn me on, so I can turn off the lights.
"Now, if she does it like this
Will you do it like that?
Now, if she touches like this
Will you touch her right back?
Now, if she moves like this
Will you move like that?
"Come on!
"Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it…"
The song ended, and we sat there panting as an advertisement came on. I hit the power button, and there was another moment of silence. I looked at Charlie, and he looked at me. Then we irrupted in hysterical laughter.
My sides were aching as we entered Seattle, but every time I replayed Charlie singing "If she touches like this, will you touch her right back?" the giggles returned and so did his.
As Charlie paid for our lane, I looked around the dark alley. Neon lights flashed above the lanes, and every time someone got a strike I would jump. That loud noise was annoying. Charlie grabbed my arm and led me over to a middle lane. Oh great. Everyone in the building would be able to watch me make a fool of myself.
I sat down on the nifty little bench and pulled off my sandals, replacing them with the smelly bowling shoes. I looked up when I heard a familiar chuckle.
Edward Cullen was sitting on the other side of the chairs, watching as I pulled on my shoes.
"What?" I asked.
"Your face was priceless," he grinned.
I stuck my tongue out at him. "What're you doing here?"
"Family outing. We're just finishing up. Is that your father?" He pointed to Charlie who was shaking hands with who I presumed was Edward's parents. I nodded.
Alice walked up and sat on Edward's lap. He grunted, as if she weighed anything. She rolled her eyes.
"Hi Bella!"
I laughed. "Hey Alice. Did you have fun?"
She nodded. "Yeah. I got two strikes!"
"Woohoo!"
"And Edward managed to strike on all of his."
I turned to him, an impressed look on my face. "Oh really."
He laughed, and gave a "So what" shrug.
"You'll have to show me sometime."
"Bella!" Alice half yelled in Edward's ear. I cracked up at his face. "Yes?"
"You and I must go shopping sometime! That would be crazy fun. Don't you think?"
"Umm…" I hate shopping. But I couldn't resist the puppy dog look she was giving me. "Sure. I would love to."
She burst into applause. Our parents walked up.
"You must be Bella," their father said, smiling at me.
I returned his smile.
"I'm Carlisle Cullen, and this is my wife, Esme." The lovely woman smiled too.
"Nice to meet you."
"And you as well." He turned to Esme. "Lunch?"
She laughed. "Yes, dear."
Edward and Alice stood and waved goodbye to me. With charming smiles, the almost too perfect family exited the lanes.
"Nice family," Charlie said. I nodded.
"Are you ready to get beat, Bells?" he asked, laughing. I groaned.
Two lost balls (BOWLING balls, people. Just thought I'd throw that in there so that none of you got any ideas about Charlie…) and three broken toes later…
Charlie and I were headed to Wings, the popular sports bar/restaurant, where I was to "test my sport knowledge."
I have to admit, bowling was fun. Even though I dropped the ball on my feet and my fathers, we laughed a lot at stupid things and other people. I wasn't the worst in there.
The waiter was a cute boy of around sixteen. It must've been his first day because he kept stumbling over his words as he took our orders.
"Next time, try not to bat your eyelashes so much, Bella," Charlie teased.
That evil blush rose to my cheeks. He laughed.
I ate my cheese fries and watched with amusement as Charlie won the sports trivia game. A woman came over to our table and handed him a certificate for a free slice of chocolate pie, which he used.
I drove us home, simply because Charlie was too full to even walk. He rested his head against the window and shut his eyes.
"Bella?"
"Yeah, Dad?"
"How are you and Emmett?"
I cleared my throat. "We're fine. Why?"
"Just curious…" he mumbled. "Bella?"
I laughed, "Yeah?"
"Promise me that the two of you aren't too serious?"
The blush returned. "Of course."
"Thanks," he yawned. "Let me know if he ever tries anything funny, okay? I'm licensed to taser."
He fell asleep, but my cheeks burned the rest of the way home.
Review, please!
Oh, by the way. I heard that tropical storm Hanna was heading up the east coast. So if I have any readers up along that way, please stay safe! Because yeah, sometimes tropical storms stay tropical storms, but sometimes they turn into hurricane Katrinas. So be careful. (:
The song in here is "Shake It" by Metro Station, just if you didn't know. Thanks, AnotherHPF, for suggesting that.
Sorry for posting this twice. (:
