7. Things Left Unsaid (325 words)

he always left things unsaid…

They were standing in the middle of the busy Tokyo streets. Neither moved as they glared at each other, both standing stock still, like statues, as people grumbled and had move around them as they rushed to work and school. They ignored the people surrounding them. The two had drifted into their own world. Neither advanced any closer to victory in their stare-down though neither was willing to back down either.

"Odango Atama." Usagi.

"Baka." Mamoru.

"You actually managed not to crash into me this morning Odango. What happened? Are you going to lead me to believe you're becoming less of a klutz?" Don't listen to me. I'm an idiot.

"I woke up early and I didn't see the need to rush to school. And I'm not a klutz, you jerk. You just happen to always be in my way." You're mean Mamoru. Why can't you ever say just one nice thing?

"So instead you decided to make my morning so much brighter by inanely chatting to me." I'm sorry, Usagi. I'm sorry for everything I've ever said.

"You started the conversation not me." I'm sorry I'm not perfect but I am who I am.

"It's still a waste of my time. Now if you'll excuse me I have places to be." You're not a waste of time. You could never be a waste of time. I like talking to you. I like you.

"Like I really want to stay here with you." I like you. Why can't we be friends?

"See you around, Odango Atama." Bye, Usagi.

"Hopefully I don't see you around, Baka." Bye, Mamoru.

The two broke eye contact. They had returned to the world of bustling Tokyo streets filled with people rushing to school and work. Neither had won the battle but neither had lost either. They carefully stepped around each other and moved in their opposite directions.

she figured some things were better left unsaid…
