Chapter II: Alec

If Alec had known this is how things would end up, he would have never even gone to Magnus's stupid party. Who celebrates their cat's birthday anyway?

Magnus did. And Magnus was uniquely Magnus, and Alec loved him. Magnus with his spiked black hair and smooth, gold-tinged, perpetually glittery skin. With his bright green eyes, always boring into his own; their thin slit pupils always made the Nephilim shiver. And for such a peculiar fashion sense, it worked for the warlock. Magnus was so open, so unique and so free with being himself.
But then there was Jace.
And Jace, well...
Nothing in life is ever easy, is it?
Alec knew he needed to let go of Jace already. Jace was making it quite clear that he didn't return Alec's feelings, what with all this Clary angst business. And besides, he was sure that Magnus knew exactly what was going on and it hurt him. It would have hurt Alec to be in Magnus's position, he was sure. And it was certainly hurting Alec to be in Alec's position.
So why not just let go?
When you're the oldest in the "family," it's hard to let go. Of anything. Everyone else who's younger than you is yours, dammit. The nerve of them going off and loving other people.
Essentially, Alec knew his hands were tied. Caught between two people he loved tremendously: one of which he couldn't have in the way he wanted, at least as long as Clarybitchface was around, and one he could have, who wanted to have him. Why wasn't the decision easy, then?
Fuck it all. Alec didn't need someone else anyway.

Author's Note: Ooh, I love writing from Alec. Also, Clarybitchface is now in my computer's dictionary. This means it's an actual word, guys. Legit. :) Sorry to all the Clary lovers out there. I'm not a big fan.
GUYS THE CHAPTERS LOOK REALLY LONG IN WORD. I SWEAR THEY DO. D:
