"You know I'll win Doc. I always win. Why don't you just give up already?" I asked while brushing the dust off my shoes. I had time before he actually started attacking me. And this time I was more than prepared for his crazy machine. It almost killed me a week ago, but this time I would beat it.
"Insolent hedgehog." Eggman said, his usual anger seeping through his tone. "I almost had you last time. What makes you think you can beat my machine this time? It's as fast and powerful as you are." The giant egg-shaped robot stomped a foot on the ground to prove the point, thus shaking the area so hard several trees fell down.
"Hey! This place is sacred! Watch it!" Knuckles shouted. He always did hate it when our battles took place on his island. I gave my usual smirk, told Tails to back up and said to the Doc, "This is what makes me think I can beat your machine."
I held my arms out and concentrated, pulling the power toward me. The Chaos Emeralds materialized out of thin air and began spinning around me, like they usually do when I go Super. But this time, something was wrong.
I couldn't tell what it was, but something felt off. The power surged through my body and I turned golden, my quills pointing upwards. Shooting into the air and floating in front of the cockpit of the Doc's robot, I felt myself loose control. I could see my reflection in Eggman's robot. I looked like I usually do as Super Sonic, except for my eyes. Instead of red eyes, I had red swirls. Crazy red swirls.
"I always win." I heard myself say, but not in my normal voice. I sounded crazy, insane. Why was I talking like that? And why were my eyes screwed up? "And this time, I'm gonna turn you into a scrambled egg, with nothing left but some fabric and metal." What? I'd never threaten to kill him! Who was in control of my voice? Of my actions?
It was as if I was locked away, watching a movie in which I was going insane and could do nothing about it. I had been fine until I had gone Super. What happened? I had been using the Emeralds a lot more lately since Eggman's creations had gotten much stronger, but nothing like this should've happened!
I cried out for Tails and Knuckles to run, knowing I was about to do something I would regret, but the only words that came out of my mouth were, "Bye-bye Doc." in a teasing tone. That's when I felt lasers shoot out of my eyes (since when could I do that?) and blast the Doc's bot to scrap metal. He climbed out of the junk pile and pleaded for his life.
I tried to stop myself, but I just kept laughing. "You're pathetic. A weakling. I don't know why I haven't destroyed you yet, but I will. Right… Now!" I shot another laser at the doc, and all that was left of him was a smoldering crater with a pile of ash in the center containing his glasses and goggles.
What had I done? I felt myself turn to look at Tails and Knuckles. Tails was hiding behind a rock muttering, "I don't wanna die. I don't wanna die." over and over again. Knuckles stood in a fighting stance shouting, "Sonic! Stop this at once! You're better than this! This isn't you!"
He was right, it wasn't me. But then, what was it? I laughed madly again, but then felt myself powering down. The Emeralds' energy was wearing off. "No, no! No! Not now!" I heard myself shout as the gold faded away to my normal cobalt blue. Apparently whoever was controlling me needed me in Super form.
The more the gold faded, the more drained I felt until I finally passed out onto the grass. But before my world went black I saw someone atop the Master Emerald Altar. He looked like a crystalline version of Shadow. I heard him say, "The contamination has begun." before night came early for me.
