Chapter 2: A Talk With Jazz
Jazz was old and everyone knew it, except of course for Jazz. He got up every single morning before anyone and practiced his ninja for several hours then he would play his music at top volume much to the annoyance of his daughter, Jasmina, who happened to be home for a visit.
"Must you play that music at that level?" she hissed even as she reached to turn the volume down.
"Yep," her father replied and hit her servo with a nunchuk without so much as looking in her direction.
Jasmina felt her optics narrow and a familiar sensation rose up in her stomach even as she advanced on the older bot, wrench in servo. She was a centimeter away from bushing him upside his helm with it when there was a buzz, indicating someone was standing at the door.
She opened the door, scowling. If it was a salesman she was going to off-line him then and there.
"Hi, Jasmina," instead it was the last bot she expected to see.
"Bumblebee?" she gasped. "What are you doing here? Come in," she moved out of the way, allowing the yellow bot to enter.
"Thank you and in answer to your question I would like see your father. Is he…available for company?"
"Yes," Jasmina said delightedly as she realized that she now had a valid excuse to leave her father alone for the day. "I'm supposed to meet the others for energon and I think now would be a perfect time to leave."
Bumblebee's baby blue optics twinkled in amusement. "Your father's music not to your liking?" he teased.
"I like his music, I just don't like it at that volume," she informed him curtly before transforming and racing down the street.
Bumblebee shook his head in exasperation. "Kids," he muttered as he carefully made his way towards the origin of the ear-splitting noise he had been able to hear from outside.
Jazz stood in the middle of the room, bobbing his head in time to the (to him) melodic tunes playing from the Cybertonian version of a stereo. He frowned and cocked his head to the side when he felt a presence nearing him.
"Is that you, Jasmina?" he called then turned when he received no answer. He didn't see anyone so he returned to his music, not noticing the dark figure sneaking up behind him. He was so caught up in a rendition of one of his favorite Earth songs that when two servos encompassed his optics he let out a rather feminine shriek and spun around to face his attacker only to come face-to-face with a very familiar yellow mech that he hadn't seen in over two million stellar cycles.
"Bumblebee!" he gasped in shock. "How…did…how?" he was vaguely aware that he was spluttering but that fact paled in comparison to the fact that he was standing face-to-face with an old friend.
"Your daughter didn't tell you?" Bumblebee arched an optic ridge. "I thought she would have been dying to tell you how she and her friends woke me up."
"Jasmina woke you up?" Jazz decided to sit down before he heard any more shocking news.
"About seven stellar cycles ago," 'Bee confirmed as he turned down the volume of Jazz's music.
"Why didn't she tell me?" Jazz was too upset to notice that the room had stopped vibrating.
"I don't know but that's not why I came."
Jazz looked up. "Why did you come?"
'Bee shrugged. "I don't know. I think I just wanted to see someone that I knew one last time before…" he stopped suddenly.
"'Bee," Jazz's tone was wary. "What are you going to do?"
"I found this time machine," 'Bee began but was quickly interrupted.
"You're going to back in time? Man, I wish I could go with you."
'Bee looked at him curiously. "You're not going to give me a lecture about timelines and such?" he sounded…disappointed.
Jazz shook his head. "No way. It wasn't fair what happened to you and you should have the right to change it if you want. Besides Jasmina would have a spark attack if she knew."
"Actually you sort of have your daughter to think."
"Sort of?"
"Optimus junior suggested it. I don't think he meant for me to really do it but…"
"We all know you and suggestions," Jazz said with a laugh.
Three hours later Bumblebee leaned back, he was exhausted. Jazz had decided that he wanted to hear everything that had happened as he had gotten the abridged version from Prowl and it had been sorely lacking in detail. So 'Bee had given him an explanation and been amused to find out that Sentinel had been crushed to death by a wall that had fallen on him.
He looked across the room where Jazz was recharging, a slight snoring sound emitting from his vocal processor. He smiled softly, he had to see Jazz because he had some doubts about what he intended to do but after seeing his old friend…the doubts were gone and in their place was a steadfast determination. He would go back in time and he would change the future.
He heard the door opening and his head swiveled around, his right arm turning into a sword.
"It's just me," Jasmina whispered as she poked her head into the room. "You wear Dad out?"
'Bee chuckled, shaking his head and retracting his blade. "More like I talked him into recharge." He rose from his seat and headed towards the door.
"You don't have to leave," Jasmina said. "We have a guest room where you can stay for the night if you want."
"That's a kind offer but I need to get back to Omega Supreme. I don't like leaving him alone for too long."
Jasmina nodded, her optics studying his faceplate. He was hiding something, she was sure of it but just what exactly she didn't know.
Suddenly he smiled at her and said, "Remember what I said, Jasmina, about sparks finding each other." Then he was gone.
Jasmina frowned and shook her head. She didn't have time to figure out 'Bee's cryptic messages, she had a father to look after during the short time they were here.
