Here's a little outtake of Jasper's POV from the bar scene in chapter 14.
He slings his arm casually over her shoulders, and before I can glare at him, I notice her tense expression. It's clear that she doesn't welcome his touch, and part of me is relieved. The other part of me watches him, wondering what kind of man can be so oblivious to unwanted attention.
I introduce myself, smiling when he's forced to remove his arm from her body in order to shake my hand. His grip is firm, but I'm not intimidated. I notice Bella rolling her eyes at our display, so I let go of his hand.
He starts talking again, and I see her shoulders stiffen when he calls her his girl. I open my mouth to put him in his place, because even though I don't own her, she owns me, and surely that counts for something. Instead I smile when she tells him herself. She doesn't need me to fight her battles, and that should probably scare me. I'm used to being needed, but this time I'm the one who needs. That should probably scare me even more because my of how dependent my mom was. But then I'm offering her my hand, and when she takes it, I forget that this should be scary. I forget everything else because being with her just feels right, and her touch is the sweetest relief.
I hold her in my arms, and she tells me about Tyler. He broke her heart, but not how I'd thought. He wanted her, but not her. He asked her to be everything he wanted and less than she is. And she was right when she told him I wouldn't do the same. I want her for everything she is and everything she will be.
I love her.
This wasn't beta'd, so any mistakes you see are mine. :)
