Tiny Recap: Libra POV
I searched the ground for Iggy, Fang and the others. I didn't see all of them, but I did spot a certain black winged boy flying in circles.
"Fang!" I called, just feeling the strain of carrying someone.
Fang turned and his face lit up when he saw me. He flew over and helped me land with Laron. It was a clearing with a few trees. Iggy, Beth and Matt were waiting. Beth and Matt gave me a hug upon arrival and then they took over watching Laron, who was still unconcious. Iggy greeted me happily, then it was just Fang and I.
We hovered over to a tree and sat among the leaves. He sat with his back to the trunk and I sat in front of him. He grinned at me and then he was kissing me. I loved it completely. It was as if the entire world had disappeared. There was only Fang and I.
Fang chuckled as he pulled away. "Was that good enough?"
"Good enough, and so much more" I breathed, snuggling against his chest. He leaned his head against the tree trunk. We must've fallen asleep that way.
Libra POV
Later, I was woken by some very persistant calling of my name. It was Beth, big surprise there. I probably would have taken her head off if it weren't for the reason for Beth's screaming.
"Val! He's awake, Val!"
I jolted awake, previous annoyance and weariness gone, and leapt down from the tree without disturbing Fang. And my gaze instantly fell on Laron, who was stirring. He held his head, I guessed that he had a headache. His jade eyes were a little lost and cloudy. He was bruised and pale, probably from the School's treatment.
"Laron?" I whispered.
He sat up and stared at me. A look of bewilderment crossed his face. I hoped to God that the whitecoats hadn't wiped his memory.
"Val, is that you?" he croaked.
"Yes," I said, kneeling next to him, "how are you feeling?"
"Like hell, I don't remember much."
"Try to forget, please. It's for the best."
Laron and I slipped into normal conversation, as if I weren't a genetic freak. As if the past year had never happened. Until, Laron brought up the fact that two older kids were here and why I had been gone. He stared at me, awaiting an answer. I didn't give a verbal answer, I just lit a small ember in my palms. Like I had with the flock. I coaxed it into a flame. All three humans' eyes got wide.
"What- what are you?" Laron gasped.
My heart sank, maybe this truth thing wasn't the smartest idea.
"I'm a mutant," I explained, "I had some DNA rearranged in me. I can manipulate Earth's elements, in addition to my mind powers."
"So, that's why they wanted us. Hostages." Beth breathed.
"Yeah, they want me dead. All of us hybrids and expiraments."
"Well, they can't have you." Laron growled.
"Damn, right there." a voice said behind me.
Fang sat behind me, he was the one who had spoken. He stared at Laron, then turned back to watch me. I smiled at Laron and introduced him to Fang and Iggy, explaining that they were avian-human hybrids. Then, of course, the Igster had to totally ruin the moment.
"Yo, Fang! We got any hot dogs left?" he called.
Fang rolled his eyes and went to help his brother, leaving me with Laron again.
"So, is that why your eyes changed?" he asked.
"Yeah," I spoke in a simple soft whisper.
My eyes used to be brown, like my mother's, but became silver after I was "messed" with. God, those whitecoats were so dead.
I stood suddenly, "Well, everyone is probably tired so let's sleep. So, we can move out tomorrow."
I floated to the tree, sitting still and staring at the leaves. I felt Fang sit beside me, pulling me to him. I smiled at how different Fang was around me.
"Come on." Fang whispered, spreading his wings.
I flew with Fang, just flew. We didn't land or anything. I enjoyed the feel of the crisp night air, only Fang's hand touched mine.
"Fang, what will we do?" I called to him.
"Clarify? Do with what?" Fang called back, he was smirking.
"Everything." I whispered.
"Well, everything is quite vague." Fang laughed.
"Oh shut it! You know what I mean." I cried, playfully shoving Fang's hand away.
"I'm sorry, I truly can't tell you." Fang murmured, "You know Max will throw a fit if we bring the humans back to the flock, but it will take too long to take the them back to Iowa," he paused, thinking, " Iggy and I had to walk here. It would take months to get to Iowa."
"You are absolutely no help." I grumbled.
"Sorry, I didn't go to school like you." Fang teased.
I playfully punched his arm and he grabbed both my forearms. He had a playful glint in his dark eyes. We both flew through the canopy of the forest until we hit the ground.
Fang POV
He chuckled as he held Libra beneath him. She beamed up at him, she knew he was just playing. Her silver eyes captivated him, they sparkled back at him. He couldn't imagine anyone more perfect than Libra, except maybe Max. Libra wasn't proud or closed in. She knew how to fight. She could be beautiful when she wanted to. She was often care-free when there wasn't something stupid worrying her. She had only opened up to Fang.
Fang brushed his lips against hers and he mentally laughed as her eyes widened. She closed them as if to savor the moment. Fang closed his own to do exactly that. When they broke apart, Libra playfully shoved him off her and sat up.
"Fang, we'll have to take them to the flock. It's the only safe way." she whispered, her silver eyes cloudy.
"I know," Fang grumbled, "Max'll be pissed, but it's all we can do."
He hated the fact that her thoughts of the humans had penatrated their moment, but he pushed his hidden fury away to concentrate on her words.
"Will Max be mad about us?" Libra squeaked.
Fang smiled at her word choice of "us". Then he gave some thought to her question. Max and Fang were like siblings, if not that then partners in crime. They had a way of telling each other things without speaking aloud. But Fang and Max together? It didn't add up, but that's not what would set Max off. She claimed relationships were a waste of time, just another unneeded distraction. She wouldn't like Fang being distracted.
"Fang?" Libra whispered, breaking his thoughts.
"Yeah, she'll be mad." Fang confessed.
"Then let's wait. I'm coming to live with the flock. I want to be with others like me, more or less. You saw how the others acted when they found out I was a freak now."
"Freak?" Fang snorted, "You're no freak. Not in my eyes or anyone else's"
This made Libra smile, which in turn made Fang smile. Maybe Fang was changing, but was it a good thing? He never used to smile or laugh as Iggy had pointed out.
"Come on, let's head back." Libra said, suddenly standing.
Fang followed her and they both took to the skies. This time Libra didn't let him touch her.
Libra POV
I flew with ease and relaxed some. My time with Fang had been counter-productive, we had ended up breaking up, so to speak. Now, I avoiding Fang's touch during flight. I knew it bothered him, heck, it bothered me, but it was the best I could do. We landed neatly in the camp to find it missing a few members. I searched for my friends, but to no avail. I found only a note, written in Laron's sloppy handwritting. It read:
Valla,
I'm sorry, we all are. We can't take the mystery anymore. You said it yourself, you're not human anymore. We'll have to move on and go our own ways. Don't be upset, it looks as if you have made great new friends that are like you. Don't worry about us, we're tougher than we seem. Just go enjoy yourself with your new bird pals and keep in touch. You were always on our minds in that lab. I hope to see you again sometime, sooner than later. We'll all miss you.
Love always,
Laron, Matt and Beth
I slumped to the ground and crumpled the letter in my fist. I fought back my angry tears; I had just found them and now I'd lost them again.
I glared at Iggy, though I knew it was pointless, "You let them go?"
Iggy sighed, " Lib, they slipped away while I slept. I thought you were still here."
"Well-" I started to yell.
"You can't blame him," Fang murmured, "they left. They said why. It had nothing to do with secrecy. If you had been here, they probably would have said something."
I sighed, I knew he was right. I just wanted all this crap to be over. I wished I had never become Libra, but instantly back tracked. If this all hadn't happened I wouldn't have met the flock and that would be a major loss. My life was what it was, I couldn't go back in time and stop the whitecoats. I could just beat the hell outta them now and be satisfied.
"Look, let's just rest up and head back to the flock tomorrow." Fang said.
I nodded, hovering to the tree. I wanted to be by myself, confront my loss alone. Fang seemed to sense this and chose his own branch far from mine. I drifted to sleep, my subconcious out to get me, of course.
It was a blank canvas, just a stark white plain leading to nothingless. Yet, I was there alone. I glanced down at myself, I still wore Nudge's outfit so that hadn't changed.
"Valla." a voice called.
I spun on my heel to see the only person in the whole world that I didn't want to see now. Brushing his hair from his face, he smiled at me. All I could do was scowl at him, hating his every molecule.
"Valla, don't lie to yourself. You can lie to the bird kids but not yourself." he said gravely, the grin vanishing.
"What do you want, traitor?" I hissed.
"Traitor?" Laron asked, " Valla, I'm hurt."
"Don't call me that! It's not my name, I hate it."
"Tsk, too bad. I shall call you as I want."
Okay, this is NOT how Laron usually talks. Usually, he's all "Yo!" and "Whaz up?", not "I shall" and "Where art thou?" This was totally freaking me out. My dumb subconcious was all about confusing me lately.
"Look, butthole. Get outta my flippin life! You guys thought I was a freak, didn't want to know me anymore. I get it, a year obviously is just too flippin long to be apart from your best damn friends in the whole world. But nobody gave a second flippin thought after I vanished of the face of the flippin earth!" I paused for a breath, I was on a roll. "Not only that, I saved your flippin butts from my worst nightmares. This is sure freaking lovely thanks I get from you lot of traitors. Now I can't get a flippin moment's rest because you haunt my every flippin eye blink! So thanks. Thanks a whole damn lot."
Finished with my rant, I was breathing hard and my eyes were close to tears. Damn traitors, I thought hotly. Laron just looked at me calmly as if expecting another rant.
"Valla, we never doubted you for a minute, not even for a second. You gave us all quite a cliffhanger when you left, especially me. Remember our last Visions game, the one 'bout Alaska?" Laron arched his eyebrows," Yes, I haven't forgotten. I believed you;d come back to me, to us. You never did, that's when the wolf things got us. At the park, got us. Kidnapped us, we never gave up. I fought to the very end."
"You seemed to have given up in that hallway." I scoffed.
"With a gun at my head? You'd have to be mad to struggle then."
"Then, I guess I've lost it, 'cause I sure as hell would've fought to my flippin death!" I spat.
Laron was still calm. This was not my Laron, my Laron would have blown up in my face. He'd have told me to quit screaming at him, and told me where to shove my rant. This Laron was a flippin monk compared to my Laron.
"Laron, I can't trust you. I'm sorry." I choked out, the words almost impossible to say, "I've just had enough of this crap and I'm done."
I raised my hands in the universal "done!" gesture and realized what I'd just said. This is the boy who I'd trusted with my life not too long ago. If the skater punks were being buttholes to me, Laron would fight like hell to get 'em away. Then after he'd satisfied his fury, he'd turn to me with a goofy grin and we joke about my 'knight in shining armor.'
"Valla," Laron sighed, "Libra, just keep in touch okay. I'll always know my best friend is out there patrolling the skies, ready to kick some scientist's butt into next week."
Laron smiled and held his arms out as if to hug me. I turned him down, rejected! I flashed him a smug grin.
"Beat it, ginger." I sneered.
"Kick ass, Val." Laron grinned at me.
With that the dream faded, allowing me to finally rest. I savored the silence, still exhausted from my fury in the dream. Ah, I thought, peace, quiet, darkness.
There ya go, nice long apology chapter. That whole dream sequence came to me in a dream actutally kind of weird. I was wondering what I could write and poof! my subconcious gave me it. Guess mine doesn't hate me, unlike Libra's. Got some cool stuff with Fang and Iggy coming up so stay tuned. I probably won't update tomorrow, but who knows? Maybe... anyway, Review!
