Two of a Kind

Grey clouds moved slowly through the midnight sky hiding the stars. Katara couldn't sleep, so she sat out at her secret place watching the sky. She didn't know why she couldn't sleep. Maybe it was because of the disgusting smell coming from Toph's feet that was keeping her up. Maybe it was because of the loud obnoxious snoring coming from Sokka that was keeping her awake. Maybe it was because of Zuko constantly mumbling in his sleep.

Or perhaps it was because of Aang.

Before the war ended she would spend hours up at a time worrying her head off about him, and now that the war is over she finds herself doing the same thing. It made no sense to her. Katara knew sleep was important. So why was she depriving herself of it just for Aang? The war has been over for many years now, and she still couldn't figure it out.

Katara flinched when she heard the stumble of feet behind her. She jumped up from her sitting postion to see the one she had been thinking about. Aang.

"Oh! I'm so sorry to scare you Katara. I just...couldn't sleep and I uhh...I couldn't find you..." A blush creeped across his cheeks as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously.

Katara couldn't help but smile affectionately at him. "It's okay Aang." She went back to her postion turning her back to him. "Come sit with me." She patted the area next to her as she turned her head to face him.

Aang gladly complied and sat next to Katara, the two of them watching the clouds. "Couldn't sleep either huh?" Aang softly spoke, almost too quiet for Katara to hear.

Katara nodded, still staring at the sky.

Aang chuckled "I guess we both have something on our minds."

Katara giggled "Yeah."

The two benders were quiet for the next few minutes. Until Aang spoke up.

"What are your future plans Katara?"

It took her by suprise. She had done so much in so little time, that she really hadn't thought about any real future plans. Her life had been pretty much just a take it as you go kind of life.

"Hm. My future plans?"

"Yeah."

"Well I want to eventually teach waterbending in the Southern Water tribe, now that it's been rebuilt and there are waterbenders there."

"Mmmhmm." Aang replied closing his eyes, taking her hand in his and laying back on the ground.

Katara yawned and laid next to him positioning her head in the middle of his chest "And I want to get married and raise a family with the love of my life."

Aang smiled to himself "That sounds nice."

Katara smiled and placed her hand over his chest "And you? What are your future plans?"

Aang yawned "Umm...I want to maintain worldwide peace."

"Mmmhmm." Katara replied closing her eyes.

"And I want to get married to the love of my life."

"And who might that be?"

"You." Aang replied smoothly, like it was the easiest thing in the world.

Katara smiled and began to drift off to sleep on his chest "I love you Aang." Aang waited until he knew she was asleep to respond.

"I love you more Katara." Aang drifted off into sleep as well, the two of them dreaming of being with each other forever.
