Chapter 1 - Forks

It was the time of the year—the time right after Christmas, but just before the new semester started—that not one soul in the town of Forks knew what was happening. The one thing the townsfolk knew, though, was that the prodigal daughters of Police Chief Donald William Swan were returning home. Coincidentally, the people of Forks also knew that the girls' names were Isabella Marie Swan and Elena Patricia Swan.

Upon the sisters' arrival into town, their ever-so-bashful father showed them through the streets, allowing them to get a feel of their new residence. Along the way Bella and Elena spotted several popular places, including a couple of themed diners and a few boutiques. The shops didn't really interest either of them, but they were good places to know. Before heading on home, the Chief swung by the school, pointing to the building for the Front Office and the student parking.

A man of few words, Donald Swan left the girls to unpack and regroup. In their separate rooms, Elena and Bella gathered their thoughts and simultaneously agreed to dread the next day. The two went to bed with heavy hearts and, after waking up early, departed for the long walk to school. Both Bella and Elena knew that they'd rather walk barefoot to school than be caught dead in the police cruiser.

The school was fast approaching their sight, the parking lot deserted except for the stray student here or there. They reached the office, politely asked for their timetables, and left with them in hand. With glee, Bella noticed that they had nearly the same schedule. With a quick high-five from Elena, the two headed on to class.
