Just something I came up with while listening to Mice on Venus. Expect some tear-shedding.
Edit: I decided to extend it and make it a bit more brightening with a happy ending. Still expect some tear-shedding, though. Unless I ruined it, of course.
It's over...
You've slayed the Dragon, conquered the Wither, put the Warden down to rest, and now, you've finally made it home.
It's funny, you think, how you came to call this strange world you found yourself in "home." When you first woke up in the middle of a forest surrounded by an environment made up entirely out of blocks, you were a bit befuddled. You had no idea where you were, how you got here, or even who or where you used to be. But somehow, you knew exactly what to do. Punching down trees with nothing but your bare fists, constructing complex tools with ease, and even coming to friendly terms with the local villages scattered all over this world, was nothing but child's play for you and came to you naturally.
You've lost track of how long you've been living here, but you were sure it was probably months, or maybe a couple of years, since you first arrived with nothing but the clothes on your back and a name. And as you look back on it all, you realize that your time here couldn't have gotten any better.
As you pass through the streets of the village, the villagers watching you and occasionally letting out their signature "Hmm," you spot the structure that you've made for yourself. There, you spot your faithful canine companion, whom you've named and been on many expeditions with, waiting for you patiently in front of the double oak doors of your humble cobblestone and wood plank house. A single bark greets you as you give her a pat on the head and walk past into the house and to your room. You hang up your netherite armor and sword on their stands and frames, deposit the loot you've acquired into the respective chests, before stepping outside onto the balcony to watch the setting sun over the village you had just passed through. Your companion sidles up next to you and lays at your feet. You look down and smile, recalling the wonderful time you've spent with her.
But at the same time, tears fill your vision as you know this'll be the last time you'll see her.
You don't remember exactly when it happened, but you do recall that it came to you in a dream:
A blinding light obscuring several extravagant beings that encircled you, looking down at you and speaking in ethereal voices. They were the ones that brought you here, to save this world and bring balance to it. You asked why they chose you, but received no answer. Instead, they told you that once your task has been completed, you will be sent to your real home and back to your regular life that you had no memory of. At the time, even though you couldn't remember your past life, you were ecstatic at the idea of going back to wherever you were originally from. But now, you wish you could stay, because of the new memories you've made in this strange, new world.
And much as you want to deny it, your time has come.
As the tears start to flow freely down your face, you get down on your knees and hug your large, canine friend, burying your face into her soft, warm fur as you manage to choke out a few words. "I don't want to go, Svenja." You don't know why you chose that name, but for some reason, it felt right to you. It brought a sense of familiarity from whatever world you originally hailed from. Plus, your canine companion didn't seem to dislike it, so it stuck.
"I don't want to leave you here on your own. We've been through so much together, and it hurts me to think of you being alone..." You began sobbing, your body shaking. Svenja whines and wraps both forepaws around your neck and resting her stocky, lupine muzzle on your shoulder in an attempt to comfort you as best as a canine could. And what she does next would've surprised you if you weren't already used to it.
"Don't worry, Anon," she says, her voice straining. She too knew this day would come. When you first told her, she didn't understand what you meant. But as time moved on, she slowly came to terms with your inevitable departure once you returned from your perilous expedition. "I can take care of myself. And though it might not be possible, I will wait until we eventually meet again." You shake your head, wanting to tell her that you wouldn't ever be coming back as your tears soaking her soft coat. But you said nothing, your words failing.
A moment of silence follows as the two of you embrace in one final goodbye. After a while, you pull away, and a dim, glowing light begins to envelope you as the ones who put you here come to take you away. As everything around you fades to black, the furred face of your friend the last thing you see, you can hear her say in the distance, her words echoing:
"I'll miss you, too."
