Disclaimer: I don't own the 2005 animated film Robots and all rights goes to Blue Sky Studios. Robots has been one of my favorite movies since my childhood, and it still is today. I've enjoyed that movie many times since I was a kid, and I still enjoy it today. Since I love the movie so much, I decided to do a whole retelling of the movie that is called Anybody Can Shine No Matter What They're Made Of with new characters, new scenes, and different dialogue, and my OC belongs to me. Anybody Can Shine No Matter What They're Made Of
Chapter 1: A New Member Of The Family
In a very amazing small town known as Rivet Town which is located in a world populated by robots in different shapes and sizes, its citizens are walking around the town, going to various places, and doing their own daily routines. At one of the local diners called Gunk's Greasy Spoon, a robot who works there named Herb Copperbottom suddenly bursts out of there full of excitement.
"Woo-hoo! I'm gonna have another kid!" exclaimed Herb. He leaves the restaurant and runs up to a traffic patrol officer robot. "I just talked to my wife this morning, and my next baby is gonna be delivered any minute."
A robot that was driving in the middle of the road stopped right in front of Herb since he was blocking the road, much to his annoyance. "Hey! Get out of the way! Some robots are trying to drive around here and go where they need to be!"
"Hey, I'm gonna have another kid soon!" exclaimed Herb in excitement. He continued running throughout the streets and ran up to two robots that were sitting on a bench together, and he put two smoke pipes in their mouths. "Congratulations, you too! Woo-hoo!"
Herb continued running throughout the streets in complete excitement since he is going to have another child, and he has dreamed of this kind of moment for so long. While he continued racing throughout the streets, a fire hydrant robot congratulated him for having a next child and a dog robot sniffed around him, and he warned him not to do his business around him while he whined.
Herb continued to race throughout the streets in excitement, and he suddenly didn't looked where he was going and he accidentally knocked over a stack of boxes that carries bottles of beverages that are being carried by one of the employees of a local store known as the Rusty Nail, and three of the five boxes fall from the carrier. Herb quickly catches them and gives them back to the employee while he keeps being very excited about having another childhood while he congratulates him, and continues traveling throughout the streets just as he heads home for the delivery of his next child.
Meanwhile, at a local elementary school called Nickel Elementary School, the final school bell rings, and all of the students leave and begin heading to their homes. While they do so, one of the students named April Copperbottom who is the daughter of Herb, is filled with excitement just like her father is since she will be having a little sibling soon, and her best friend Isaac Brightlight along with her and he is very excited about her having a younger sibling."
"Hey, Isaac, guess what? I'm gonna be a big sister today." said April.
"Well, congratulations, April, and we're very proud that your parents are gonna have another baby." said Isaac.
"My Mom and Dad told me that the delivery was gonna be this morning, and the baby it's gonna be a boy." said April. "I'm gonna have a little brother."
"You're gonna be the best big sister that anybody could ever ask for, and remember, it isn't gonna be easy doing so." said Isaac.
"I already know that, and the one who's the oldest child has so many more responsibilities than the younger child." said April.
"So, good luck seeing how the delivery of your little brother will turn out, and tell us all about it later on." said Isaac.
"Okay, guys. See ya later, and I'll be going home to see the delivery. My little brother is gonna be delivered any minute." said April.
April waved bye to Isaac while he waved bye back at her, and she began home in complete excitement to witness the delivery of her younger sibling. Later on during the evening, Herb returns home, and he excitedly informs one of the neighbors taking care of his lawn in his front yard about the news of the delivery of his new child while he kindly congratulates him for it. Suddenly, Herb notices his daughter April returns home as well, and he quickly picks her up in excitement and spinned her around in his arms which made her giggle.
"Dad, I can't wait to see my new little brother," said April.
"And I can't wait for it either," said Herb. "April, it's such a beautiful day for this, and let's go see his delivery right now," said Herb.
Herby quickly puts April down, and they both proceed to enter their home to see the delivery. Inside the house, they both quickly greet Lydia Copperbottom who is the wife of Herb and the mother of April, and they both quickly discover that the baby has already been delivered to their household.
"Lydia, April and I are here!" said Herb.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. You both missed the delivery, " said Lydia. Herb and April's expressions suddenly become filled with disappointment since they have missed the delivery of the baby. "But it's alright, you two." She picked up a huge brown box that says "Build-A-Baby" on it. "Building the baby is the fun part."
Herb and April both smiled at the box since that even though they've missed the delivery, they already know that making the baby is very exciting. Since the baby has already been delivered, Herb and Lydia proceed to work together to build the baby, and April wishes that she could help her parents out with it, but they told her that she is too young to do so and she needs to wait in her bedroom until the construction is over which she does so. April goes to her room and begins waiting for her parents to get finished with the construction, and while she is waiting, she begins reading some of her magazines.
In the living room, Herb and Lydia open the box and they carefully set all of the pieces of metal, screws, joints, and nails that are the parts of their new son on the floor. They use really good teamwork on the construction of the baby together, studied on the instructions that come in the box, placing the cotter pins into small holes, wrench to tighten the bolts that held the tiny limbs in place, screwing on the child's metal skull, and popping its butt plate into place.
While the construction was going on, April remained inside her bedroom and continued what she was doing while she waited for her parents to get finished with building her new little brother. Finally, after twelve hours of building their new child together, Herb and Lydia finally heard the sound they've been waiting for, and Lydia held their newborn son in her arms just as he let out a wail which was so strong and powerful.
Just as April continued reading some of her magazines in her bedroom and continued to wait for her parents to get finished building her new younger sibling, she suddenly heard him crying from the living room, making her realize that his construction had been already finished just as she became filled with excitement. She then stopped what she was doing and left her bedroom to see how he turned out. April quickly arrives in the living room, and witnesses her newborn younger brother in her mother's arms just as he smiled at him and Herb smiled at him as well.
"Wow! It's…It's my little brother, and he looks so perfect. He really is." said April.
"It was twelve hours of labor building him, and it was so worth it." said Lydia.
"Look at him! He's got your mother's eyes and my father's nose." said Herb. "Just like April got your father's eyes and my mother's nose."
"So…what's my little brother's name anyway?" asked April.
"His name is Rodney. Rodney Copperbottom." said Herb.
"That's a really good name for him, and the name Rodney suits him pretty well." said April.
"Just look at how bright his eyes are, and I know we've been smart enough to save parts for his construction." said Herb. "He is a brand new member of the Copperbottom family, and this Copperbottom will eventually do great things for the world. I just know that he will."
"But, Dad, what about me? Will I eventually do great things for the world too?" asked April.
"Well, of course you will, April. You'll do great things for the world just like your new little brother will." said Herb. "All you have to do is have some confidence that you will do great things for the world, and all your brother has to do is for the same thing so he could do so as well."
"Alright. I know that we will do great things for the world too." said April. "Oh, and I am so amazed that he is a brand new member of our family and he is my brand new brother."
"We're very amazed about it as well," said Lydia. She suddenly sees something on the floor. "Um…Herb? What's that extra piece?"
"Oh, they've always put in an extra…" said Herb just as he went down on the floor and began looking for the extra piece. He quickly finds it and laughs sheepishly. "Um…we did want a boy, right?" Lydia nodded her head yes. Herb picks up the extra piece and gets out a hammer to put it in Rodney. "This won't hurt a bit son." Rodney suddenly becomes filled with surprise and begins crying very loudly.
A few days later right after Rodney has been built, he has been crying nonstop. One morning in the kitchen, while Lydia is making some breakfast with April's help, Herb attempts to calm down Rodney who is sitting on his bouncer seat on the counter by making some funny faces and pretending to catch his nose, but he accidentally removed his nose off of him which makes him cry even more while he attempts to put it back in. Soon, breakfast is ready, and the Copperbottom family begins having breakfast together while Rodney continues to cry, and Herb gives him a bottle of milk to drink and he stops crying while they continue having breakfast together.
However, later on in the morning, Rodney has already finished drinking his milk and begins crying again. Lydia held him in his arms and Herb is reading a manual that is called "What To Expect The First Fifty Thousand Miles" in order to help him out with calming down Rodney from crying while April is coloring in one of her coloring books. Herb reads the instructions and he turns down Rodney's volume by turning one of his ears, and it causes Rodney to stop crying and calm himself down while his parents smile at him. April quickly notices her younger brother stopped crying and calmed himself down, and she stopped coloring in her coloring book and smiled at him along with her parents.
Soon, April gets ready to go to Nickel Elementary School just as she puts the things that she needs for school in her backpack, and also puts in a new photo of her little brother which is for show-and-tell in her classroom on the couch. She then leaves the Copperbottom residence, and says bye to her parents and younger brother just as she warmly embraces her parents and gives her younger brother a kiss on the cheek. April walks throughout one of the neighborhoods of Rivet Town and she soon arrives at elementary school. Inside, April arrives at her classroom and greets her best friend Isaac, Hannah, and Quincy just as she sat at her own desk, and the teacher of the classroom begins class.
"Good morning, students. Today, we're gonna have a show-and-tell, and it's to show your items and describe what they are." said the teacher. "Who would like to go first?" April quickly raises her hand. "Yes, April, go ahead."
April got up from her desk and went right in front of her classmates at the teacher's desk. "Hello, everybody. Today for show-and-tell, I would like to show you something special, and it's a photo of my new baby brother." She shows the photo of Rodney to her classmates, and they all looked very amazed by how her little brother looks. "His name is Rodney, and he has been delivered and has been successfully built by my parents a few weeks ago. I'm already proud to have him as my brother and I promise that I will be the best sister that anybody could ever ask for." Isaac, Hannah, and Quincy clapped for her.
"Congratulations for having a new younger brother, April, and he sure does look so adorable." said the teacher. "Now you can sit back down." April sat back down on her desk. "Does anybody else wanna show and describe their own item for show-and-tell today? Anybody else?"
"Oh, I do!" said another student just as he raised his hand.
"Alright. Come up here and show everybody you want them to see and describe it to them." said the teacher.
The other student got up from his desk and began showing his own action figure for show-and-tell, and while he does so, April stared at the photo of Rodney just as she smiled at it, and she was very proud of herself for becoming his big sister while Isaac was very proud of her for becoming an older sister already just like everybody else are. Later on in the classroom, April, Isaac, and their classmates are now doing math on multiplication. While they do so, April is planning on showing her best friend her new little brother right after school and they could hang out together in her household.
"Hey, April, your little brother is really cute, and it was a good idea to show what he looks like for a show-and-tell today." said Isaac.
"Well, I was planning on bringing one of my dolls for show-and-tell today, but I've already brought one of them from before." said April. "So, I decided to do something different, and it's showing a photo of my new little brother."
"He sure does look so perfect, and I guess your parents took a while to build him when he got delivered," said Isaac.
"Actually, it took twelve hours to construct him, and it was worth it anyway." said April. "He had all of his parts put together and it was sure a lot of hard work. Also…they had to put in his extra piece too since he was a boy. Trust me, you don't wanna know what it was."
"So, since your brother has been delivered and had his parts put together which was a lot of hard work by your parents, is it okay we can see him?" asked Isaac.
"Yeah, guys. You can see my little brother, and he'll be very happy to see you guys since you're my best friends." said April. "Oh, this is gonna be so much fun, and you guys can visit him after school and we can spend time with each other at my house too."
"Miss. Copperbottom and Mr. Brightlight, continue doing your schoolwork this instant." said the teacher.
"Alright, and that's exactly what we're doing right now, teach. You got it." said April.
April and Isaac continued doing multiplication along with their classmates, and Isaac is very excited about visiting April's younger brother after school as much as April is excited about showing them her new younger brother as well. Later on, the school day ended just as the final school bell rang, and April and her best friend began leaving school along with their classmates and the other students just as they began heading to the Copperbottom household to see Rodney while everybody else headed to their own homes.
Soon, they arrive at the Copperbottom household where they find that April's mother Lydia is busy sweeping the living room and April's father Herb has gone to Gunk's Greasy Spoon to do his important job there since he is an employee there. April asks Lydia where Rodney is at so she could show him to her best friend, and she tells her that he is playing in his new bedroom. They went to his new bedroom, and they found him playing with some building blocks on a playing mat on the floor. April kindly introduces Rodney to Isaac, and he begins adoring him just as they smiled at him while he kept playing with his building blocks.
"Say hello to my new little brother, guys." said April.
"Wow! So that's your little brother?" asked Isaac.
"Mmm-hmm. That's him." said April.
"So what's his name?" asked Isaac.
"His name is Rodney. Rodney Copperbottom." said April.
"Well, we think that kind of name suits him pretty well, April." said Isaac.
"I think so too," said April. "My dad told me that he will do good things for the world one of these days while I would do the same thing as well.
"You're absolutely right about what your dad just told you about Rodney, and he will eventually do good things for this world," said Isaac. "Just like anybody else would. That's right. So, what do you wanna do first while we're hanging out together in your home? Oh, wanna play some video games?"
"Sure. Let's do that right now." said April. He turns to Rodney. "See ya later, little brother."
April and Isaac then leave Rodney's bedroom while he continues playing with his building blocks. They arrive at the living room where they begin playing a video game called Invasion Of The Nanobots on a V-Box 450 with some game consoles while Lydia continues to sweep the living room. Later on that day, April gets finished with hanging out with Isaac by playing the video game with them just as he leave her house and she says bye to him, and she goes back to Rodney's bedroom where Rodney is now playing with a stuffed teddy bear on the floor.
April sat right next to him just as she smiles at him and he smiles back at her. Then, April picks up Rodney and begins holding him in his arms, and she begins expressing his sisterly love for him and promises to him that she will be the best sister ever to him. Soon, Herb returns from his job at Gunk's Greasy Spoon, and he notices April holding Rodney in his arms in Rodney's bedroom, and Lydia has finished sweeping the living room and she quickly notices April holding Rodney as well. The married couple both smiled at her holding Rodney while they also know that she will be a great older sister to him and that they will both be good parents to him.
Just as time passes by, Herb, Lydia, and April develop a strong bond with Rodney right after he has been delivered, been constructed, and became a new member of the family. Herb gives Rodney a piggy back ride on his shoulders throughout the living room, Lydia plays with Rodney in the dining room with his rattle, and April reads Rodney a story on a rocking chair in his bedroom. Eventually, they celebrate Rodney's very first birthday together, and his first birthday is when he started to learn some new things such eating a slice of his birthday cake and some ice cream which he accidentally makes a mess, learning how to do his first steps by using some training wheels to help him out, and saying his first word which is his older sister's name April which made her smile at him and warmly embrace him while Herb and Lydia were amazed that his first words is his older sister's own name as well and embraced their own children.
