I've Got You Now

A/N: Does anyone even write House of Anubis fanfiction anymore? I hope people at least still read it. I've been rewatching House of Anubis since it resurfaced on Netflix and cannot get it out of my head! This is set mid-season 2 but does not relate to any specific episode. Enjoy!

Chapter One

Rain had begun rolling into early morning French when Fabian realized Nina wasn't in class. He had expected her to be late, seeing that she'd told him at breakfast she was stopping by Frobisher Library to follow up a clue. He should have gone with her – had intended to in fact – but Joy had intercepted the pair, forcing Nina to storm away before he could stop stuttering. Now, the seat next to him was empty and his stomach was boiling the tea and toast consumed early into acid.

"Come on, Nina. Where are you?" He muttered to himself, his foot bouncing up and down with nerves.

"Is there a problem, Mr. Rutter?" Daphne Andrew leaned on the edge of his desk, her silver bracelets clanking against the metal.

"Just nervous about the exam that's coming up! That's all!"

"Well, if you and Ms. Martin weren't off frolicking during my class time, you wouldn't feel so behind." Her fingers tapped irritatingly, her nails in need of a trim. "Where is Nina, anyway?"

Amber looked up for the first time all class, a sparkly pink pen dropping out of her grasp. She looked around for Nina, as did everyone else. Suddenly, their classmates were entirely invested in the American. Fabian and Amber met eyes.

"She…wasn't feeling well this morning." Amber spoke, her voice higher than usual. "Girl issues. I should probably check on her!"

Amber stood and started collecting her things, as did Fabian. Mrs. Andrews stomped her foot. "Sit down. Both of you. No one is leaving until this class is over."

The pair sat, more anxiety bubbling in their stomach. The rain continued to splatter on the window's class, and Fabian starred out them, wondering where Nina was off to.

Nina had been groggy all morning. She'd awoken with a headache, her eyes feeling glassy and lacking peripheral vison. This was something she'd failed to mention when she saw Fabian's smiling face at breakfast. He was always so attentive and excited to see her. She couldn't bear to be the reason his brow furrowed, and mouth gaped in worry. Not again. So, she'd cooked up an excuse about Sibuna secret business and snuck back to her bedroom just as everyone left for school. Senkhara's mark itched under her skin, and under her sweater. It had begun pulsing in the middle of the night, with tendrils of pain piercing from her forearm to her fingertips. She'd locked herself in the girl's toilets to stop anyone from hearing her cries.

Now that she was back in bed, however, she regretted not mentioning it to Fabian, or at least Amber. Her entire body was reeling with fever induced sweat. Her pajamas were lacquered to her skin, her hair in one tangled mess behind one shoulder. She felt incredibly alone in her and Amber's funfetti colored room, the cheerful pictures on the wall unparallel to her agony. Perhaps, she just needed a glass of water. Taking the glass from her bedside table, she hobbled back over to the bathroom. The room was uncommonly steamy, its clouds dripping down the mirror of the sink. Nina wiped her hand across her forehead and filled her glass. As she looked up, words were scrawling themselves across the mirror. They read: "I've Got You Now".

Instantaneously, the mark on Nina's arm began to burn. She gasped and pulled up her sleeve to see it ensconced in red and raw skin. Her vision blurred. She grasp onto the sink for support, when the room suddenly turned sideways. Nina couldn't tell if she was falling up, down, or sideways, but just that she was falling. Falling onto a cold, hard surface. Her skull bounced where she had fallen. Her chest constricted and she felt her own mouth move in the word "help". Little did she know, Fabian had just returned early from school.
