Nezuko Kamado, the sole remaining demon, and the only known survivor of the Kamaboko squad woke to the lovely chirping of birds in the trees above her head. She slowly blinked her large pink eyes, searching the trees for her brother's checkered haori. Confused she sat up and stretched, all the while ears searching intently for the noisy morning routines of the Kamaboko squad. Then she remembered. Pain instantly laced through her body, stabbing into her fluttering heart. Gasping slightly, Nezuko doubled over in pain, salty tears streaming down her cheeks onto the thirsty earth beneath her. Dark spots filled her vision and she could feel a pent-up kind of agony fighting to burst out. Breathing heavily, she collapsed onto the side of a nearby tree and wept. The tears kept on coming, a never-ending stream of loneliness and sorrow. The pain was overwhelming, and every waking moment was unbearable. Finally, unable to keep it in any longer, she took a deep breath and screamed out her pain, her longing for her brother, for her family again. Why did it have to be her? Why? Why couldn't she have been happy? Why did it have to end up like this? She, Nezuko, is alive but alone, and her brother is dead and with their family. Panting, she glared up bitterly at the cheery blue sky and cursed whatever higher being caused her such sorrow. After a long while of cursing and staring at the sky, she forced herself to stand and move. After all, she was being hunted by the ones she once had loved. The very Hashira who were too afraid of her, Muzan's sole heir, too afraid that she would start a new reign of terror. To give them credit she had mulled over doing just that, but the memories of her brother's sacrifice always deterred her in the end. Oh her loving, kind brother, the only sun in her life, the sole source of light and life. The very sun that had been extinguished by her predecessor…

Shaking her head, she forced herself to look forward and continue moving. She had been trying to get as far as she could from the scene of their final stand. Thinking about it caused tears to form in the corners of her eyes, the pain starting to burn once more.

Giyuu-san, Sanemi-San… Why are you hunting me? What did I do wrong? I just wanted to live with Nii-San! Can't you see? I am just as human as you are, if not more! I'm sorry that I survived and he didn't! I too wish that it was the other way around…

She cried out inwardly. Picking up the pace, she let the trees around her slowly stretch into blurs of color as she ran faster than she ever had before. As she ran, a treacherous sob exploded out of her throat. Before she knew it, she was crying uncontrollably once again, tears drying up just as quickly as they fell. She ran faster.

If I can get away… I need to get farther away… I need to get farther away! I can't take it anymore!

She screamed, not a single sound coming out of her destroyed vocal cords. After becoming a demon she had lost her ability to speak and could only make slight humming sounds. Soon the streaks of colors turned into undeciperable flashes of light. She plowed through trees and other things until she felt herself falling. Yelping in surprise, Nezuko tried to orient herself as she was thrown around a flaming blue tunnel of fiery light. She could feel the heat building up on her back from the speed of her travels just as she thought that she was going to burn to ashes, she felt every bone in her body break as she crashed into something very hard and most definitely not a tree.
