"Ughh," Ryo Hazama groaned as he sat up. He shook his head, trying to clear his dizziness. He saw his teammate, Mari Ibuki, lying near him. He crawled over to her and shook her awake. "Hey Mari, Mari! Wake up!" She jolted awake, materializing a small revolver and pointing it at him. Ryo scurried back, hands high in the air. "It's me! Sorry!"
"Where are we?" Mari asked as she inspected the room they were in. It appeared to be a room that was undergoing construction. The floor and walls were concrete, with several windows overlooking a street of unadorned buildings. The entire city block was more than still; it was dead. Well, not were trees planted along the roadside and gardens tastefully arranged, but there wasn't a car in the street, let alone people walking, or any sign of life a city should have.
"I was hoping you could tell me," Ryo said as he stood next to her. "Do you remember anything after that flash of light? I only remember the light, but nothing after that."
"That's as far as I can remember as well." She turned from the window. "Let's see if there's anyone else. Be on the lookout for enemies." Ryo smirked as he snapped his fingers, and a small round bird-like creature appeared. It flapped for a few seconds and landed on his shoulder. Marie just gave him a blank stare, and he shifted his feet awkwardly and looked down.
"Looks like I haven't completely recovered from before," he said, giving her a thumbs up with a beaming smile. "So I'm in your hands!" The bird chirped cutely and started to circle around his head.
"Whatever, let's go." As she was heading towards the door, the doorknob started to turn. She grabbed Ryo and pulled him behind a column. "Get ready for a fight." She transformed her forearm into a rifle. Ryo smiled and pounded his fist into his palm with a satisfying smack.
"I'm always ready." The bird chirped in agreement.
"Do you hear something, Yaoyorozu?" Izuku Midoriya asked his teammate Momo Yaoyorozu, who was placing a stethoscope to a wall.
"I thought I heard someone, but I couldn't tell if it was someone we were supposed to find or avoid." She leaned down closer to the wall, and Midoriya looked away, blushing at the sight of her mostly exposed body, which she seemed oblivious to.
"What did it sound like?" he asked, thinking back on what they had to do. It was a new type of hero practice, a mix of fighting and rescue. They had to find their target and avoid the villains, simulating the more covert operations that heroes sometimes do. This one focused on avoiding conflict, so they were split up into groups of two at random. He knew he was the target of envy from several boys in his class, especially Mineta, for being with Yaoyorozu.
"It sounded like someone was shouting," she said. "I think they are above us." She pointed up at the ceiling. "That's why the sound is muffled." She looked at Izuku, who also looked up to where she was pointing. "Let's check it out. But be careful, it might be a trap." He nodded, and they carefully crept to the stairs and made their way to the next floor.
With her stethoscope pressed against the wall, she went from wall to wall till she found the right one. She gestured to Deku, pointed at the door, and stepped back. "They're in there; I can't figure out who's talking, but I think Jiro's in there. But she's not alone. There's at least one more person." She looked at him. "What do you think?"
"We are supposed to save Jiro," he started, "and as long as we can defeat whoever is there without alerting anyone else, we should be fine." He muttered to himself for a bit longer than was comfortable, until he suddenly looked at his teammate. "Can I listen?" She gave him the piece, and he pressed it against the door. After he heard what little he could, he retreated. "Let's check it out first."
"Understood," she agreed, "but we'll have to open the door a bit; I can't make something small enough to fit through the cracks." He quietly walked over to the door and made sure she was ready. Momo made her signature staff and motioned for him to do it. He reached out and slowly started to open the door. Izuku opened the door a crack, letting a thin line of light fall over him. The opening gave him little vision, but he could at least tell that there wasn't anyone right in front of him. He opened the door a bit more, granting him enough of a view to see most of the room.
"I don't see anyone," he whispered to Momo. "I'm going to go in." She nodded, and he stuck his head in, looking around to see if the coast was clear. "There are some pillars, they could be hiding behind them." Thinking through the list of people they are supposed to avoid, only Sero and Asui would be able to get the drop on them if they were hiding in ambush. "Jiro? Are you here?" He stepped completely inside, and gestured to his partner to do the same. Yaoyorozu joined him in the room, gripping her staff tightly.
"Jiro?" She said, "It's me and Midoriya. We're here to-" A white ball flew out from behind a pillar and rammed into Izuku's head. The crack seemed deafening to Momo, and she screamed. Izuku stumbled for a second, then the ball circled around and hit him again. This time it crashed him into the wall, and he slumped over. "Deku!" she shouted, but before she could do anything, the ball zoomed over to her and slammed into her stomach. She fell, clutching her stomach. The ball, which she noticed had wings, flew in a circle and returned to the pillar. Or, more accurately, to the two people who just stepped out from behind the pillar. Then the bird/ball thing slammed into her again, knocking her unconscious.
"Why did you knock her out too?" Mari said as she smacked him in the back of the head. "Now how will we learn anything?"
"Sorry, I guess I was feeling better than I thought." Ryo said, smiling. "But don't worry, I have a plan." Mari looked at him suspiciously. "I do," Ryo said, hurt that she didn't have faith in him. "I got the idea when I heard there was a guy and a girl." His smile widened, which just made Mari more suspicious.
"Can I come out yet?" Ryo asked from behind a pillar, where he had just finished changing into Izuku's costume.
"Hold on, it's harder than it looks." she said as she wiggled into the leotard. "Ok, come out," she said after she struggled to buckle herself together. "I need some help with the ponytail." Ryo stepped out and nearly regretted his plan. That costume was far too revealing, even more so on Mari. Mari, aside from being an inch or two taller and a bit more sizable in some other ways, looked exactly like that girl "Yaoyorozu," minus the spiky ponytail, which she was struggling to recreate.
"I don't know how to help you," he said, hands raised in a sign of surrender. "I don't usually do much for my hair."
She gave an unladylike snort at that. "I've noticed, at least your guy has a mask you can use. I've got to be as similar as possible. Now get over her and help me." He sighed and went over there to help her. A minute later, he was satisfied.
"It looks perfect," Ryo said, giving the outfit a once-over. "I wouldn't think you were someone else, at least from a distance. You got lucky; she looks a lot like you. Even if it looks like you're a pervert." That was met with a slap in the face.
"Don't call me a pervert when you're looking at me like that!" She blushed as she covered her chest. She collected herself as he rubbed his face. "If only she was a bit older, then it would've been a better fit."
"Sorry! Let's just get out of here. We have to find out where we are and if anyone else is here."
"What about them?" She said this as a handgun with a silencer appeared in her hand. "Should we kill them?"
"NO!" Ryo said as he waved his arms. "We don't know who they are. They could be good guys or important people. And besides, someone is depending on them. They were looking for someone, remember? Anyway," he said, looking around, "where's the girl? I tied my guy behind the pillar with what was left of my clothes."
"I too had to use my suit to tie her up." The gun disappeared. "She's behind that pillar." She pointed toward the other end of the room. "Well, let's get going; we need to regroup." She started for the door. "Put on your hood, and get rid of that bird."
The bird burst into bubbles as Ryo pulled the mask over his unruly red hair. "Let's go find our friends." He said, as he confidently strode out of the room into the unknown.
Friends might be a bit much, you're the only one I know, Mari thought as she followed him.
