So I was just re-watching Firefly this week, and my mind was all like ″Enid, you have to write a Merlin fic

to 'Ballad of Serenity' come on, do it now″ and me being a slave to my mind and all was like″yes,

master what ever you say″...not really but anyway here it is... without any further ado...

My first song fic

Take my love, take my land,

Take me where I cannot stand.

Merlin had lost everything to his destiny: Freya, Balinor, he had even been driven from his home in Ealdor. He had given

everything to protect Arthur. Time after time he had given up everything, he had been punched, kicked, stabbed, and

burned for his destiny, his beliefs. There had been times he could not stand, but he still persisted because even in the

most desperate of situations he could still find a beacon of hope that speared him forward.

I don't care; I'm still free,

You can't take the sky from me.

He fought for the good of magic, the end of the druids suffering, and for the freedom of each and every life form tied to

magic. His hope for the future had no limits, nothing could stop what was coming because the very earth fought for it.

Take me out, to the black,

Tell them I ain't comin' back.

Each time he faced down a new foe he stared into eyes that did not have the gleam of hope in them. He had been forced

to stare into eyes with no remorse. Had spoken to people whose souls were blacker than ink, murkier than midnight.

Had sacrificed himself more times than he could count for people who did not know who he really was.

Burn the land, boil the sea,

You can't take the sky from me.

He had seen the dragon's fire char the castle walls, and creatures of great power rise from water. He had seen

sand come from water pumps, and his people burn. Still, he trusted in his destiny and saw the light at the end of

the tunnel, a very long dark twisting tunnel mind you.

There's no place I can be,

Since I found Serenity.

He had seen so much, lost too much, and been so close to that final sleep, but he still forged onwards. He found a

peace, a serenity in the knowledge the future was bright. He knew he could not be wrong for his eyes burned with

the golden age of Albion each time he used magic. His very essence was hope, his very reason for being was magic's

beacon of hope for the future. He was the future.

You can't take the sky from me!

Even as he sat morning the loss of his father in the deepest dungeon of Camelot. As he sat in the heart of the

Dragon's cave in Camelot, he realized he could see the sky, even if it was just a sliver, and realized that even if Uther

burned him he would never lose the sky. Even if it was simply a sliver of daylight, the sky was everywhere in Camelot.

Nothing would ever change that.

So what do you think, kinda dark, but also filled with hope

any reviews would be appreciated

Points for anyone who finds the Doctor Who reference!
