Chapter 1: A Rabbit Goddess's Choice

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

A beam of highly concentrated power was shot out before it was blocked by an ethereal sword of blue energy. The land was hit by multiple explosions, scorching the earth and sending shockwaves that destroyed everything in the surrounding area.

The one that sent out the beam of destructive power was a titanic brown-skinned scraggly creature that had a single massive red eye that had a set of three rings that had three tomoes each, giving a total of nine tomoes. This was the Ten-tailed demon tree, a being of extreme power that had little will of its own.

The one that blocked the blast was a massive creature that had an oni-like face structure, samurai armor, and massive wings, all of which were made of the same blue-flaming energy. This was a Susanoo, a being constructed out of chakra for those who have a specific form of power.

yet, despite the size of these battling creatures, it was the people controlling them that were the true combatants.

Standing on top of the ten-tailed beast was a woman of elegant beauty, ice blue skin, pale pupilless eyes, long white hair, and a pair of bone-like horns on the top of her head. This was Kaguya Otsutsuki, the one that had gained the usage of chakra thanks to eating the forbidden fruit that was made by the demon tree.

Within the head of the Susanoo were Hagoromo and Hamura Otsutsuki, sons of Kaguya.

Hagoromo had spiky gray hair, pale white skin, two small horns on the top of his forehead, and his eyes were red with three tomoes circling around the pupil.

Hamura had the same coloration but his hair was long, while his eyes looked just as pale as Kaguya's with veins appearing on his temples that led to his eyes.

Kaguya willed the ten-tailed tree to attack Hagoromo's Susanoo with its tails. She watched as the Susanoo used its sword to deflect the tails efficiently. Despite how she was able to predict the actions of the Susanoo, the ten tails could not as it was close to a mindless beast. It may obey her commands but it obeys more on basic commands rather than complex thoughts. She readjusted herself as the ten-tailed tree was pushed back and hit by the Susanoo's sword. Once she got her balance back, she looked back at the Susanoo and peered through the energy of the construct at her two sons. Despite her apathetic appearance, tears began to fall from her eyes as she wondered why things had gotten to this point. 'How? How could you betray me like this?' She looked up to see the sword coming down on the Ten-tails' head and she jumped up to avoid the strike. 'How can you not see what I was doing was for peace?' she blinked away the tears as she saw her sons charging at her. She looked down to see that the ten-tailed tree was struck down. She would need to focus her power to get it back, however right now she needed to focus on her sons. She lifted up her hand in front of her as a shockwave was sent at her by Hamura. She dissipated the attack before she sent out a barrage of chakra fists at him.

Hamura was able to see all of the fists coming his way and he used his staff to destroy the ones that would have hit him head-on as he swerved out of the way of others. He felt irritated at how he was being held back as he and his brother needed to get to her. His Byakugan caught sight of one of the fists coming behind him and he flew up to avoid it. He saw another group of fists heading his way but he didn't need to do anything for them.

Hagoromo's Susanoo destroyed the fists about to hit his brother before he picked him up and brought him inside. "You alright?"

Hamura nodded as he looked toward their mother. "We need to change this into a close combat battle. If we want any chance of sealing her, we need to make physical contact."

Hagoromo looked toward their mother as she was just floating in the air, awaiting their next move. "I think I have an idea."

Hamura looked to his brother and awaited for him to speak.

"If we use my Susanoo to get close enough, we can charge her and finally seal her away. The faster the better, I don't think the land can handle much more than this."

Hamura looked down at the earth to see that much of the land was destroyed and much of the forest that used to be almost ever-lasting had changed into a wasteland. He took in a breath before looking back at his mother. "Ok, I'm ready."

Hagoromo nodded as he tensed himself to be ready.

Kaguya watched as her sons got ready to charge at her and felt heartache at the whole thing. Regardless of her anger, she still loved her sons, but in order to achieve her goal, she feels it necessary for her to take back what she had given her sons in order to continue her plans. She activated her Byakugan and her Rinne-Sharingan as she saw them charge at her. She sent a barrage of her needles at them but was frustrated at how they were unable to get through his Susanoo. She then chose to send a barrage of chakra fist projectiles only for them to be deflected by its sword. She didn't know what they were planning but if they wanted to get up close, she would oblige and take back her chakra directly from them. She waited for them to get close and when they brought the sword up, she lifted her hand and caught the blade before she began to dissipate the chakra the sword was made of. Though, as the chakra began to disappear, she was shocked when her sons jumped out of the Susanoo and charged at her.

Hagoromo and Hamura waited for her to have her arms up to stop the sword before they acted. They both jumped out of the chakra construct with their hands out, ready to press them on her.

She looked down and wondered what they were trying to do. Despite her knowing she was more powerful, they had proven that they had power of their own and she would be wary of what they had planned. She was going to use her ability to absorb any form of chakra to negate whatever it was they had planned but the second their hands landed on her body, she realized something was wrong.

Hagoromo and Hamura gained a sense of accomplishment as they had done what they were aiming for. They looked at each other before giving a quick nod and screaming in tandem.

"PLANETARY DEVASTATION!"

Kaguya suddenly felt all of her chakra being restricted and began to panic as she couldn't summon her powers. When she felt herself move without her say, she looked around to see chunks of rock fly in her direction. She deduced that whatever this was, it was going to imprison her for who knows how long. She began to be enveloped by the chunks of rock and tried her best to struggle free of them. In a split-second decision, she channeled what she could and sent out a black mass from her sleeve back to the earth. A last-second plan that could see her release at one point in the future. But oddly enough, when she sent it out something in her shifted. She almost felt like a weight that had been on her shoulders was released from her.

Something she didn't realize she did was that when she created the black mass, she had created two. One was sent back to the earth as an agent to bring upon her release while the other was a portion of her essence. The portion that was created when she had eaten the forbidden fruit of the demonic tree. A darkness that gave her the narrowed focus of converting all the people that sacrificed themselves to her into white husks.

The second black mass however was caught by one of the rocks and flung back and landed a dozen feet away from her.

Kaguya, with her sight being covered up, looked down at her sons and cried. 'Hagoromo, Hamura, what did I do? What caused you to betray me like this? Why?' That was the last thought she had until her vision darkened and she lost consciousness.

Hagoromo and Hamura watched as their mother was sealed away inside a large mass of rock. It continued to gain size till it was unfathomable how big it had gotten. They stood there for a few more seconds till they lifted their palms toward it and began to move this new mass upward, far away from the earth.

As it rose, the ten-tails began to fall apart as a good amount of power was lost due to the separation of the one that gave it form. Once Kaguya was far enough, it took a few more steps toward the brothers before it began to shrivel up till it became hard as stone. its tails began to fall off due to their weight and all that was left was a statue that held some vague resemblance of what it once was.

The two stood still and watched as the creature attempted to attack them only to fail in its attempt.

Once they were sure that the battle had ended, they let out a sigh of relief before they looked up at the new mass in the sky. This was something they did not want to do but with the secret they unveiled about the sacrifices to the tree, she left them no choice.

Unknown to the brothers, there was a third looking up at the moon, and unlike the other two, who were thinking of keeping their mother up there forever, this one was thinking of a way to release his mother. And he would do so no matter what it took.

On the mass now orbiting the earth, lay dormant a woman that was betrayed by her love, which brought her to the point of eating the forbidden fruit, and now betrayed by her sons, which led her to question if this was worth it.

And so she lay there in slumber, not knowing when or if she would ever be released.

~a millennia later, October 10th~

The village of Konoha was in the middle of being destroyed by the strongest of the tailed beasts, the Kyuubi.

Screams were heard as villagers were running as fast as they could away from the beast that seemed to be taking its time destroying the buildings.

The shinobi of the village were doing their best to stop the monster from destroying their home. Jutsu after jutsu were sent at the beast but all it got from it was retaliation a thousand times stronger in the form of flames and devasting physical attacks

The village was engulfed in flames, giving the beast a more sinister appearance as it let out hissing roars.

Suddenly, a massive toad came crashing down on top of the Kyuubi, stopping it from bringing from crushing another group of shinobi with its paw. It roared out in anger before throwing the toad off its back.

The people of the village looked up to see the toad boss facing off against the Kyuubi, with the fourth Hokage standing on top of the toad's head. They felt some relief at their savor arriving to stop the beast but they got moving when the Kyuubi roared in defiance.

Minato narrowed his eyes at the Kyuubi and was able to see that the beast's eyes were not how they were earlier. Before they were slits in the iris but now they were round and almost looked like they had three black marks on the edges of the eye. After he had fought that Uchiha in the forest and how he seemed to insinuate that the Kyuubi was under his control, he wouldn't put it past him to have put the beast under a genjutsu. But at the moment, that wasn't important since it was still attacking the village. "Let's go, Gamabunta!"

"You sure know how to put someone's life in danger, don't ya, kid?" The toad boss pulled out his sword and charged at the fox.

The Kyuubi dodged the thrust by jumping to the side and swinging its tails at the toad.

Gamabunta jumped over the tails and brought his sword down at the fox's head but found it blocked by one of the tails. The impact caused a shockwave that shook the village and he was then thrown back by the tail. He landed on the ground and let out a puff of smoke from his mouth. "Damn thing isn't going to make this easy."

Minato nodded as he thought about the best thing he could do to get the fox out of the village. "Can you throw him toward the forest? We need to save the village from further destruction."

"Heh, oh sure, should be a piece of cake."

The sarcasm wasn't lost on Minato as he knew he was asking a lot from the toad but at the moment he was worried about getting the fox away from the village and away from his family.

Gamabunta jumped into the air before he came back down with his sword poised to strike. He knew he telegraphed his move too much but that was the point. The fox moved to the side to avoid the blade that got stuck in the ground and swept his tails toward the toad. Gamabunta though braced himself and moved so that he could use the sword that was still stabbed into the ground to block the swing. He found himself being pushed by the tails but grunted in effort as he kept his hands on the sword to keep the block up. Once he tug his toes into the ground and stopped, he grabbed the tail before using all his strength to throw the fox over his shoulder and out of the village. Once that was done, he took a moment to catch his breath before he swiped his hand toward the hilt of his blade and removed it from the ground. Once the sword was in his hand, he jumped in the direction he threw the fox. However, while in the air, he saw that the Kyuubi was gathering a massive amount of chakra in its mouth, and at the rate he was falling, he would have only a split second to avoid it.

Minato was in the same mindset but he realized that if the shot was taken and dodged, the village would be the one that would be hit and with the amount of destruction he knew the bijuu dama would do, the village would very well be ash. "Gamabunta, you can't let that thing be fired!"

Gamabunta thought that the kid was insane if he thought he had any chance of blocking the attack. Blocking was out of the question, dodging was a bad idea for those behind him, so that left him with one option, especially since Minato didn't have anything set up yet. "Only got a second to do this!" Once his feet touched the ground, he put all his strength into his legs and jumped forward at the fox. He pulled his sword back and hoped this would work.

The Kyuubi swallowed the bijuu-dama into his mouth, causing his cheeks to puff out, and lowered his head to fire it at the toad. He began to open his mouth to fire it at the toad but was unexpectedly hit from under his chin.

The swing was sloppy and done too late, but it did what he wanted. Gamabunta swung the sword and accidentally hit the pommel of it up on the fox's chin and knocked its head back.

Minato felt relieved when the blast of chakra was sent up into the air but he didn't have time to dwell in it as the fox swung its tails at Gamabunta. 'We can't let this fight keep going, otherwise, the whole area will be destroyed.' He thought about any possible way to stop the Kyuubi and sealing it was the only chance they had to stop it. Problem was that Kushina was in no condition to retake the Kyuubi as it had been too long and she is most likely already at death's door. The only other option was his son and he really wished there was another option. Not only was his son the best option, but he also wouldn't be able to even ask another person to take on this burden if he wasn't willing to put it on his own son. Steeling himself, he chose to get started.

Unbeknownst to Minato, an unforeseen consequence came from the redirection of the bijuu-dama.

The blast of chakra was sent into the air at high speeds and was heading directly toward the moon. The blast was able to bypass the stratosphere and into space, impacting the moon and awakening one of those sealed inside the moon.

Deep inside the moon, the being opened its eyes as it felt something familiar. Pale white eyes opened fully and felt remnants of powerful chakra seep into the moon. The figure began to absorb some of the chakra that was able to reach her and regained more consciousness. She looked around and saw pure darkness and couldn't move her limbs. Wanting to find out what happened, she use the chakra she gained to activate her Byakugan and saw that there was nothing around her. Focusing more on her eyes, she saw that there were structures on the other side of the moon but realized that it wasn't where the chakra came from. Looking in the other direction, she looked past the mon surface and saw the planet she knew to be her old home. She narrowed her eyes and followed the path the chakra went through and was able to see the surface world and the battle that was taking place. She didn't recognize the large beasts that were fighting but the fox caught her interest as it had nine tails swinging behind it, which reminded her of the ten-tail tree that she used to use. She felt that the chakra of the beast was linked to the tree and gained interest in it but as she watched the battle continue, she saw it be restrained by golden chains and held down before something was ripped out of it, shrunk in size before it looked to be compressed and sent into the stomach of a tiny baby with blonde hair. But once her eyes landed on the baby, something in her pulsed

It was as if the world around the baby no longer existed as she focused only on the baby. Something about the baby resonated with her and she couldn't take her eyes off it. She ignored the two dead adults that lay on the ground next to the baby, the burning buildings that took up the village, or the carnage that could be seen all over the village. Her eyes followed the baby as it was taken away from the site by an old man and moved to a room that was still standing.

As she watched the baby, the old man ordered several of the other men that had gone with him to set everything up for a meeting with the elders and clan leaders as there are things that need to be discussed. The old man then got word that things were set and he told two of his men to guard the room. No one in or out and that the baby inside, who was at the moment sleeping peacefully, is of the utmost importance.

She saw that the baby was now alone in the room, and with the last of the chakra she absorbed, she created a portal centimeters in front of her and slipped through.

~minutes ago~

Hiruzen placed Naruto Uzumaki in a quickly constructed cradle and sighed in resignation as he couldn't understand how all of this had happened in the span of a few hours. He stood over the baby and was glad that Naruto had fallen asleep after tiring himself out after crying for so long. His mind was going through a load of random thoughts that ranged from the reconstruction of the village, a headcount of survivors, and the role he was given once more thanks to Minato reinstating him as the Hokage.

Then there is the child of Minato and Kushina Uzumaki, something they had kept secret from the majority of the village due to Minato's reputation with the other villages. It was also why they shrouded Kushina's pregnancy in mystery since she would be vulnerable during that time and if the other villages found out that it was Minato's kid, they would do anything they could in order to kill Kushina and the baby. He knew that they had plans for their son's announcement to the village once he was born in order to gain some support from the villagers and Naruto would be protected even more so, yet things have changed now.

Hiruzen thought about what he would do with the baby and went through potential guardians.

His first thought was Mikoto Uchiha, Kushina's best friend and someone who had already given birth to her son, Sasuke. She would most definitely take up the role and would be a good fit to raise young Naruto.

Then there was Tsume Inuzuka. With her clan being one that sees the clan as a pack, one big family, it would be a good place for Naruto to have a home.

There was also Hitomi Hyuga, a former team member of Kushina's team when they were genin. With her kind nature and also expecting, she could very well be accepting of having Naruto with her.

He could also take the baby and raise him as best he can.

The problem was that each of the options had downsides. Especially since Naruto was now the jinchuriki of the Kyuubi.

If he gave it to Mikoto, the issue would be Fugaku. The man was ambitious and it was no secret that he had some animosity with Minato and the hierarchy of Konoha. If he were to find out that Naruto held the Kyuubi, which would most likely happen, he could very well use the beast in an attempt to take control of the village.

For Tsume, the main problem was that her compound was hit hard by the Kyuubi attack and she would not have the ability to take anyone in at the moment. With how things are now, he wouldn't know when she would be able to take on the task.

Hitomi would also have issues because of the Hyuga clan itself. With how "pure" they had tried to maintain themselves, they were not very inviting to outsiders into their clan. And it was most likely that if they did accept Naruto into the clan, they would slap the birdcage seal on him in order to control him. The seal was not somthing Hiruzen wanted to be on anyone but with how clan matters are dealt with by the clan, he had no say in it.

And he wouldn't be able to take care of the boy since he was Hokage once more and his duties would keep him away from the baby and he would not be able to handle both anymore. If he was younger, he might have been able to, but as an old man, he is well past his prime.

There was also the issue of him being the Kyuubi's jailer. The elders had brought up the idea that Kushina should be put on the front lines of almost every battle they had in order for her to take care of the enemies quickly and show off Konoha's power. If it was let out that Naruto was now the Jinchuriki, they would do anything in order to get their hands on him, especially Danzo and his Root organization.

He was brought out of his thoughts when one of his Anbu came in and informed him that they had gathered the Clan heads and elders and they await his arrival.

They didn't need the civilian council since the clan heads would be able to get things ready for the reconstruction of the village.

Hiruzen looked to his Anbu and gave his orders. "You two are to stand outside this room and guard it against anyone. No one is allowed in, other than me. Is that clear?" He watched them nod and began to walk out of the room. He told them to stay outside of the room so Naruto would be able to have peaceful undisturbed sleep.

It was minutes after Hiruzen left and the door was closed that a black blocky portal opened up, and out came Kaguya. The woman moved to stand over Naruto and reached down to cup the baby's face. She immediately felt her connection to him as she realized that the boy was connected to her son Hagoromo. It was at this realization that she felt the familiar sting of betrayal from her sons and a spike of anger hit her. Yet, it only lasted a second as she felt her maternal instincts take hold and she had this look of sorrow on her face. She whispered in order to not wake the baby. "How could I have changed things back then? What should I have done in order for you to see what I was doing was for my nursery?" She reached down with both hands and gently picked the baby up and held him to her bosom. Her sad expression slowly morphed into a small smile as she saw the baby nuzzle into her breast. It was to her surprise that the baby began to nibble on her breast and she remembered the time she had nursed her sons. She moved her free hand to the top of her robe and loosened it open to allow her breast free and brought his mouth closer so he could begin to feed. She smiled down at the baby that suckled on her nipple and she used her chakra in order to manipulate her biology in order to lactate for him to drink. She remembered this feeling as it reminded her of the time she fed her sons. It was one of the most joyous times she had in her life and she felt happy to relive them in a way.

It was the thought of her sons that reminded her of their betrayal and she still had no answer as to what she could have done to avoid them doing as such to her. 'Perhaps it was my method that had caused them to go against me. Hagoromo said that he had loved all of the people that lived there and that my killing them was cruel. But was it really? I required their sacrifice in order to protect my nursery.' She looked up from the baby and activated her Byakugan to look at all the people that were running around the village. 'Could these people truly be worth going against their mother?' She thought back to the time she had actually cared for someone and how they had betrayed her in their hubris.

But then her mind went to Aino, the attendant that had sacrificed her life in order to protect Kaguya. She sacrificed her life, knowing she would potentially die, for her. While Tenji, her lover, had betrayed and chased her in order to kill her.

Her lover, who attempted to kill her, and her attendant who died for her.

'...should I stand by and do nothing? Or should I do what I did before and take back the chakra they all have?' She jolted out of her thoughts when the baby in her arms stopped and she looked down to see him looking up at her. She felt her heart swell as the baby smiled and made noises to get her attention. She brought her free hand up to his face and she grabbed it in her little hands. She gave a small smile before she lowered herself to sit on her knees and held the baby.

Hiruzen felt like life didn't want him to relax at all as the meeting took a bit longer than he wanted it to. It was meant to bring up the fact that he was reinstated as the Hokage and go over the clan compound damages and any shinobi from the clans that would help out in the village repairs once they had things settled.

He was relieved to know that the Akimichi would be able to help since their compound was not as damaged and they would be able to help within a week. Most of the other compounds still haven't surveyed all the damages so the reports on those would get to him possibly in two days.

Now, he had another matter to deal with: Naruto. He thought about the best option he could come up with for the time being. He thought that putting the baby in the care of an orphanage that could take him in for a bit of time till he could secure someone to raise the baby. It would only be for a few months at max if not half a year. But if all things go well and the secret of his jinchuriki status is kept, then Naruto will find himself in the hands of someone who can raise the boy well.

He stopped in front of the door and looked at them, asking for their report.

One of the Anbu nodded to the Hokage and responded. "No one has entered or come close to the room. All has been quiet inside. The baby did wake up an hour ago but went silent afterward, most likely back to sleep.

Hiruzen nodded as he internally sighed. 'Naruto is really in need of someone to fully take care of him. preferably someone who has had a child or will have one since those who don't know tend to have little knowledge on how to take care of them.' His mind went to how flippant his Anbu was in giving his report about the baby. sure he had told them that no one should enter other than him but a little more concern about a newborn waking up all alone would not hurt. But they were young and newly appointed Anbu, they most likely wanted to obey his orders to the letter. They will learn to act more on their own in time while maintaining loyalty. He reached for the doorknob and opened the door, only to freeze at the sight in front of him.

There, sitting in the middle of the room floor, was an unfamiliar woman holding Naruto in her arms. She was in the middle of breastfeeding the baby but his mind was on full alert now as he entered the room with haste, which got his Anbu escort to come inside with him, and he spoke in a firm and threatening voice. "Put Naruto down now and step away from him."

Kaguya looked up at the old man for a second before looking back down at the baby. "So, your name is Naruto."

Naruto looked up and waved his hands up at her as he made giggling noises.

Hiruzen stepped forward and spoke once more. "Release Naruto this instant, tell me who you are, and how you got in here."

Kaguya looked back at the man before frowning at him. She did not like the tone he was giving her but she restrained herself from attacking. She thought about what she should do at this moment as she stood up.

On one hand, she could kill all of the people here and leave with Naruto, however, she had nowhere to go. She did not know how long she had been sealed inside the moon but she knew it had to be a good amount of time since everyone in this village had chakra, and that was something that did not take a small amount of time. She also wanted to remain with Naruto as she had grown attached to him. She thought about other options she could go with and she came up with the idea of staying by Naruto's side, she would just have to meet with the mother and alter their memories so that it would be beneficial for her to stay. Looking at the old man, who was clearly the leader of the group of people, she gave her request. "I wish to speak with the mother of this babe."

Hiruzen glared at the woman as she was not listening to what he was saying. He would have attacked but she had Naruto in her arms and attacking would most likely harm the baby. "Put Naruto down now, and tell me who you are!"

Feeling that answering would help move things along, she responded. "I am Kaguya and I have found myself….bonding with young Naruto here. I wish to be around him from now on and I wish to speak with his mother in order to set up this arrangement."

Hiruzen gestured for his Anbu to get ready as he does not know this woman and he did not know her reasoning, but he was not going to allow her to do anything she wants with the jinchuriki.

Kaguya could see the hostility in the group and did not wish to fight with Naruto in her arms. There was also her limited chakra as she had a minuscule amount of it due to her just being released and only absorbing a small amount of chakra from what had awoken her. She focused on the amount of chakra she had and chose that the best thing she could do was manipulate the memories of the people here. She could still get what she wanted by going with the subtle approach. Her Rinne-Sharingan eye opened on her forehead and all of the people looking at her froze before falling to the ground. She felt drained from this action and understood that she needed to restore her power over time. But she did what she needed. She implanted herself into their memories so they would think that they knew her. This would help her get what she wanted and she could find residence here. She looked down at Naruto again and held him closer to her bosom.

For now, she will stay here and observe the humans that Hagoromo had betrayed her for. She would see what they had that would get her son's love.

I have issues with this chapter and I will most likely come back and redo it in order to work better but I hope that you enjoy the start of this fic.

Now I have set some things up for later use and I will explain some things as the fic goes on.

Kaguya will be different than what was in canon. I did some research on her and found out some of her reasoning for what she did. I took that and going to use it to help out in the story.

Kaguya did not know that Naruto's parents were the two dead bodies were Naruto's parents. I also looked up some of her powers and it seemed like she had the ability to alter memories. As for fighting ability, her arsenal is very small as she doesn't have much of a fighting style, she just has attacks she has that are strong and deadly. The reason she didn't use her dead bone attack was that she was fighting her sons and despised the betrayal, I get the feeling that she still loves her sons. She said that she would take back her chakra, but she did not say she would kill them. And when she cried at the sight of Sasuke and Naruto being reminders of Hagoromo told me she still cared.

Just to let you know, I will not be adding any of the other Otsutsukis into this as I have not watched Boruto, and even when I did research about them, I couldn't find any real motivation to them other than, gain power. Sure that is something that many aim for but I just don't know about them.
