Shinji Matou slowly opened his eyes, groaning as he stretched his stiff limbs. He sat up, rubbing his eyes, and looked around. He found himself in an unfamiliar room, the walls lined with bookshelves, and various trinkets. There was an odd smell in the air, a mixture of sulfur, ink, and something else he couldn't quite place.
He stood up and walked over to the window, pushing the heavy drapes aside. What he saw outside took his breath away. A blood red moon hung in the sky hidden behind what little clouds were present. The nights sky was strange and unfamiliar, yet beautiful in it's own way.
He turned away from the window as he took in his surroundings. Looking around he noticed a desk on the other side of the room, upon it were a set of alchemical ingredients and such.
Shinji frowned. He didn't understand what was going on. Was this some sort of dream? He pinched himself, but the pain he felt was too real to be a dream. He walked around the room, examining everything in detail. The more he looked around, the more confused he became.
Standing here in the middle of the room Shinji tried to remember what was the last thing he remembered was. But no matter what he tried his memory remained foggy.
Yet as he tried really hard something else came to the forefront of his mind.
Edward Holmes a name or more specificly his own name. This confused him how could this be his name when he already had one.
He walked over to the desk and examined the alchemical ingredients. There were various herbs, crystals, and other substances he didn't recognize. He picked up a vial filled with a Black liquid and studied it closely, trying to remember what it was used for. Suddenly, a memory flashed in his mind.
Edward Holmes was an orphan born in backlund in the orphanage controlled by a church of god of knowledge.
As soon as this memory flashed shinji quickly took a look at himself to find he was not wearing his regular clothes but instead wore a white shirt and black trousers. Both of the clothes felt as if they a size to big for him.
Shinji then immediately searched for a mirror or something to see his reflection. As he found a small mirror upon the desk he looked into it and was shocked. Although he still has his blue wavy hair they were a bit more messy then he remembered, his eyes on the other hand were black and under his eyes showed signs of not sleeping well. The body was a bit shorter then his previous height and was a bit more malnourished.
The memory was fleeting, but it was enough to make him feel a sense of familiarity. He tried to recall more, but his mind was still hazy. He put the vial back on the desk and turned around, intending to explore the room further.
As he walked towards the door, he noticed a book lying on the floor. He picked it up and examined the cover. It was a thick leather-bound book with the words "History of the world" written on it in gold letters. He opened the book and began to read.
Shinji found himself lost in the book. The more he read the more sure he became that he wasn't even in his world and he was currently in possession of the body of Edward Holmes.
The more he read the clearer his memory become or more correctly memory of Edward Holmes become. He remembered being a young orphan on the streets barely surviving and pickpocketing to survive.
He remembered one accidentally pickpocketing a diary upon where he found the world of beyonders and how he felt himself wanting to become one.
Shinji put the book down, feeling overwhelmed by the memories flooding back to him. He looked around the room again, taking in the various alchemical instruments and books that lined the shelves. He realized that this must be his laboratory, the place where he had spent countless hours pursuing his beyonder potion.
As sat down on the bed Shinji once again looked at the desk this time at the black liquid in vial was that the potion that could give him powers? But more importantly would he drink it?
As Shinji sat on the bed, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and fear at the prospect of drinking the potion. The idea of having supernatural powers was tempting, but at the same time, he was afraid of what might happen if something went wrong.
He picked up the vial and examined it closely. The black liquid seemed to swirl and dance inside the glass container, as if it had a life of its own. Shinji felt a strange pull towards it, as if it was calling out to him, urging him to drink it.
But he hesitated from the memories he had received the diary had told about the dangers of the drinking a potion like this and how one could go mad.
Looking around the room once again he made a decision to first find more information. So for the next hour or so he did nothing but read all the different books he had in the room but to his dissatisfaction there was nothing more about the beyonder potions.
So having found no evidence of anything else, shinji sat down on the bed opened the vial and tried to calm his fast beating heart. And In a single breath chugged the whole potion.
The moment Shinji drank the potion he immediately convulsed and his vision turned into a bury mess. Every colour around him seemed to brighten. It felt as though someone had just thrown random buckets of different colours together.
With the bury vision, his mind also felt heavy as though it was constantly being assaulted by a group of hammers.
Around him, he saw things he couldn't describe. They were transparent.
Shinji fought to keep his consciousness. The pain came in waves without stopping
"Ahhhhghhhhhhh" he screamed. Looking at his arms there were some illusory eyes on them.
But just as he thought it was over a mysterious voice started to whisper in his head. The instant the whispers started Shinji fell to the ground, breathing heavily he tried to concentrate.
The whispers felt like they telling him things or more like forcing the information in his head in the worst way conceivable.
As the things returned to normal shinji immediately fell unconscious
