A/N this was supposed to be a one-shot, but I realized how bad the first one was, and decided to rewrite it. Enjoy!
Book of the update: Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Luke never wanted to hurt her. It was HIS fault. HE told Luke that HE would hurt her if he didn't help HIM.
….
"I'll never help you." I spat.
The voice chuckled. "Oh, but you will, young demigod. Your mind is full of hatred and anger. At your father; at the gods."
That was true; my father had never helped me, never cared for me…why should I fight for him? An image of a girl with short black hair crossed my mind. My face hardened and I backed away from the pit. "I will never join you and your sick army!"
Ash and smoke billowed up from the pit, and I squinted to see the image displayed there. It was her, lying by the tree…as...herself. In the vision, she stirred and looked at me, smiling. "I've missed you." Her voice sounded grainy and unreal, as did the picture, but it made my heart fill with such longing that I could barely breathe.
"I can grant you this, demigod. Join me, and together, we can bring her back." I stared at the smoky picture of her smiling face…..the smoke wavered, and for just a moment, I saw her differently; older. She was shaking her head with wide fearful eyes. "Don't do it, please," I thought I heard. The image flickered and was back to her smiling at me, but I had seen enough.
"No." I said my voice icy calm. "You lie. Even if you did bring her back, she would never look at me the same if I joined you. You are evil."
The voice roared, and fire and smoke burst out of the pit, forcing me backwards onto the rocks. "Foolish demigod! I could kill you at this very moment, and yet you defy me?" I stood, ignoring the pain in my back. The voice roared again. "You cannot defy me! I am a Titan! I am powerful!" flames boiled over the edge of the pit, creeping nearer and nearer to where I stood. I would not join him. He said he would kill me… I would do what she would have done; I would die with honor. "I can bring her back! I can destroy her if you do not join me!" The flames parted to reveal a flickering image of her tree, standing alone on the hill. The leaves were turning yellow, and the branches were withering and falling to the ground. I saw flames creeping in from behind the dying tree, consuming it, killing it. Her spirit flickered in the trunk for a moment: screaming in pain.
I couldn't watch this; I turned aside and yelled into the pit, "Do not touch her! It's me you want, don't hurt her, please!"
"Then join me!" the voice snarled.
I fell to my knees beside the pit, flames swirling dangerously close to my body. "I-I'll join, you….Kronos." I said weakly. My heart was dying inside my chest as the dream faded out.
I stared up at the ceiling of the Hermes cabin, tears pouring down my face. "I'm so sorry, Thalia. So sorry…."
A/N Did any other Harry Potter fans get Sorcerers' Stone déjà-vu in the middle of that?
