Tonight was finally the night. Asya was finally going to escape this hell with her two sisters. It had been twelve years since Melody Potter had been reborn in this new world, and it had only been a year ago, on her eleventh birthday, that she had regained her former life memory. It then took another year for her magic to grow to the point that she could actually cast the wandless spells that she would need to escape and not pass out from magical exhaustion.
Asya was pretty confident that the world she was born into was not the same as her original world. The world history was different, and even though she had been casting a lot of magic over the past year, no ministry of Magic ever came to check all the magic usage near so many muggles. Asya looked at her hands that were handcuffed to the bed like every other girl in the Red Room at night and was never more glad that she had her family invisibility cloak or escaping from here would be impossible.
As Asya listened, she thought back on her very short life. Her earliest memory was when she was five years old and was found by some of the people that are in charge of acquiring young girls and bringing them to the Red Room to turn into assassins. Asya was taken straight to a 'family' that she knew now was fake, but she couldn't help but think of Natasha as her older sister, and Yelena would always be her younger sister. Even though it was meant to be fake, the three girls ended up loving each other while living in Ohio.
Asya had always wanted siblings in both of her life, and the three years she had them were the best moments of her new life. Each of the three sisters had a picture that their parents had taken of the three of them with Yelena on the swing in the back garden and Natasha and Asya standing next to her, smiling and giggling. Asya's magic must have been working even back then. When the mission ended, and the three sisters were separated, Asya had three copies of the picture that she gave her sisters to hide after promising they would always be sisters no matter what.
That was the last time that Asya had ever seen her two sisters. She had kept her eyes open while training at the Red Room, and in the last three years, she had never seen a glimpse of them at all, which worried Asya immensely. She knew that only one in twenty of the girls in each dorm ever lived and graduated from the Red Room, and she was terrified that her two remarkable sisters may have died already.
Taking a deep breath, Asya cast a wandless and non-verbal unlocking charm and was greeted with the incredible sound of the Handcuffs opening up. Reaching under her mattress, Asya grabbed the only significant item she had, the picture of her sisters. Asya grabbed her hair bands and wrestled with her ink-black hair to get it into a ponytail. It seems she would have the same cursed hair in both her lives. Willing death's cloak of invisibility around her, she vanished from sight and then cast a silencing charm to stop herself from making any sound.
Getting off the bed, she looked around to make sure that none of the other girls in the room were awake, something she knew they wouldn't risk as being caught awake past the deadline was punished with 20 lashes. Something that Asya remembered vividly thankfully it was not something that she was unused to as her last childhood was full of belting from her uncle. Asya walked to the door and slowly opened the door, and slipped out into the hallway before closing the door and laying a Muggle repelling charm on the door that should last far into the morning.
The Red Room was a vast complex, and Asya didn't know if she even had the time to check every room before someone noticed that she was no longer in her bed. After all, the charm would only work as long as no one in the room drew attention to the room, and Asya knew that if someone in the room woke up for any reason, they would immediately raise the alarm.
If they didn't, Asya knew they would all be killed. A small voice in Asya's head whispered that they would all be killed when it was found out that she had escaped but pushed it aside. She refused to allow herself to live a life like this one that would no doubt lead to a young death or make her lose her mind due to the evil acts that she would have to commit.
Asya started walking out of her dorm building. Everyone in dorm B had lessons together, so she knew that her two sisters were not housed in the same dorm as she or she would have seen them at some point in the last three years. That left dorm A, C and D each on had around 200 girls in them. Asya wished that a spell existed that would allow her to find someone. Still, the only tracking spells she knew only worked on magical people and required an item with their magic signature, so checking every single room was her only option.
Asya cast a warming charm on herself to stop her from shaking and quickly sneaked over to the A dorm building. She had three floors to check and had to avoid all the guards that walked around every hour or so. Asya cast the tempus charm to see the time and saw that it was one am in the morning. The day didn't start till six am, which gave her four hours to look for her two sisters before she had to leave.
Asya spent the next three and a half hours checking every room in dorms A and C with no success. Neither of her sisters was in those dorms, and the feeling of despair was growing with each room that she checked. She knew there was always the chance that her sisters were killed in the same way that she had killed the three girls she had fought against in the last two months but preyed and hoped with all of her heart that they had lived.
Asya didn't have much hope for the last dorm having her two sisters in it. After all, it made sense to split the three of them up after a long term mission like they did in Ohio to ensure they didn't grow attachments. As she walked towards the last dorm building, a deafening blaring alarm shattered the quiet night, and Asya's heart dropped and felt like it was in her mouth.
They had finally noticed that she wasn't in bed, and while she could stay invisible, the whole facility would no doubt go into lockdown, and every square inch would be searched for a moment. Asya had no clue what to do. Even with the 165 years that Asya had lived in her past life, she couldn't decide if she should risk staying for the unlikely chance that her sisters were still alive and given the last two dorms, Asya was quite sure they were no longer alive.
With a heavy heart, Asya turned away from the last dorm and cast the same flying spell that Voldemort used and shot into the sky and flew off, promising herself that when she was powerful enough, she would return and kill everyone that was in charge of the program slowly and as cruelly as she could. Asya knew that with her age and amount of magic, she wouldn't be able to fly for very long, but that was okay as long as she got 50 miles away tonight, then she would never be found as far as the people in charge of the Red Room knew she was on foot and they had no tracks to follow.
The next few hours felt like the longest for Asya ever since she woke up. Her two sisters had been stolen from her, and she spent her entire time just looking at the picture of them, feeling the worst that she had ever felt in either of her lives. Asya mind went back to her parents and was split on what to think about them. She had loved them in the three years they spent together and honestly felt that they were her loving parents.
But Asya would be lying to herself that she didn't feel bitter about how their job had not only ruined the sisters family life but also how neither of them had done anything to prevent them from being taken by the Red Room, even knowing what would happen to them there and that they could all die. Asya was sure that at least one of her sisters had died.
Even after all that, she still couldn't help but love them, and after getting her memories back of her past life, Alexei reminded her of Sirius Black somewhat if a little more stupid, but they have best have a very good excuse for what they did and why they did it.
The night quickly passed, and the sun started to rise, and Asya was panting and could feel magical exhaustion kicking in. Asya reluctantly flew down to the forest floor and landed. Even when flying, Asya couldn't see a town anywhere nearby, not willing to risk cooking food in case the people looking for her saw the smoke. She curled up next to a tree and cast a muggle repelling charm, and added the Cave Inimicum to warn her if any enemies were nearby before passing out from overuse of magic.
Flashback
Asya was running around the back garden in Ohio as the sun shined. It was finally summer holidays for the three sisters, and their mum and dad had promised they could go camping in the back garden.
Asya was dragging her bedding out so all three of them could sleep under the stars, something that she never believed would have happened a year ago when she lived on the streets in a gutter.
"Asya!" Yelena shouted, jumping onto her sister and tackling her onto the ground.
"Oomph Yelena", Asya said, hugging her little sister.
"Can we make smores, please, please, please?" Yelena asked while giving her the puppy dog eyes. Both of her sisters knew that she was weak to such looks and couldn't help but cave in when they did so.
"Do we have everything to make smores?" Asya asked, picking up Yelena and grabbing the bedding again.
"Yep, Mum and Dad got us everything," Yelena said, jumping up and down. Asya didn't know how she was so energetic. She got tired just watching her run around.
"Then we will make smores later around the campfire, okay?" Asya said as she spread the blanket out in the tent.
"Promise?" Yelena asked.
Asya looked at Yelena and held her pinky out. "Pinky promise"
Yelena smiled and wrapped her pinky around Asya's before running off looking for Natasha.
"You know pinky promises can't be broken, right" Asya heard Natasha say as she jumped down from the tree.
"Of course, what sort of monster do you take me for breaking a pinky promise," Asya said to her big sister. The thought alone of having a big sister brought warmth to her every time.
End Flashback
Asya woke up feeling more guilty after her dream that had been the only time they had ever gone camping. She guessed sleeping in the forest brought it back to the forefront of her memory. Shaking her head, she stood up and looked around. She couldn't see or hear anyone nearby.
With a wave of her hand, she turned a suck into a small cup before filling it with the water making charm and drank it all in one go. After doing this 5 times, she had finally stated her thrust. Standing back up, she covered herself in her cloak and started flying again. Asya had no clue where she was even going, but she would keep flying till she ended up in a country that she knew she knew that she was heading south-west ish and that should eventually take her to near France.
Asya was not sure how long it would take her to get to France, but as long as she got far away from this country, then she could take her time to travel the world. She didn't have much to do other than wait for her magic to grow, and unless she found some magical animals, the only way for that to happen was for her to wait till she was older and practice magic every day.
So Asya may at least travel while she waits for her magic to grow and hope that she can find some magical animals or plants to make potions. Still, she was never good at potions, so Asya doubted that she would ever find the right ingredients or even make a good potion or a potion at all, but she blamed Snape for that and his lack of teaching.
The following week passed without much happening. On the second day, she was finally far enough away that Asya could risk hunting and cooking food. After all, at this point, she was sure that she had covered around 100 to 140 miles and had left no tracks for them to even follow. Asya had seen a fair amount of town as she had flown by but didn't risk going into them. Asya knew that she was just being paranoid at this point, but she also knew her luck and wouldn't risk it till she was out of the country. She would avoid every living person.
Not to mention it helped her self loathing for either letting her sisters die or leaving them behind though she was sure they had died at this point. As far as she knew they may have been killed years ago, she could feel the fire of hate in her heart every time she thought about it, and it was all she thought about.
Asya knew that she couldn't let it be her only goal in life but even knowing that it was far harder to put into practice and it was all she could think about. Asya wasn't able to practice occlumency as she couldn't clear her mind, which was required to start practising said magical art and went back to fantasising about using the Cruciatus Curse on everyone in charge or part of the Red Room training, something she would savour when the time came.
It took Asya another week before she had finally crossed into another country and felt safe enough that she didn't have to avoid every town that she came across. She was thankful that the Hallows had followed her into this world with the only worrying part was that the Resurrection stone seemed to have changed and glowed with a dark light in the centre of the stone that now looked more like an unrefined crystal. But Asya didn't care that much about the stone. After all, she very really called the souls of the dead to the land of the living and didn't want to risk trying summoning one of her sisters in case they showed up.
As long as she didn't know for a fact, then Asya could pretend that they were still out there looking for each other. Walking through the town, she managed to learn that she was in Poland and managed to steal a world map, but death's cloak helps. When she tested it in her old life, the cloak would shield her from cameras and inferred sensors and seemed to adapt as time went on. If the cloak's magic detected that something could sense it, then it would adapt, so Asya was sure that it still possessed that ability.
Asya continued to travel via flying, wanting to get to a country that spoke the same language that she did without needing a spell to translate what she was saying and hearing. She wanted something that reminded her of home. Asya wanted to be able to eat the food she had spent over 165 years eating in her former life with a small part of her hoping that there is a wizarding world in Britain but didn't place too much hope in that dream.
A month had passed by since she had escaped from the Red Room, and Asya had managed to fly far away, crossing over a total of three countries and covering over 500 miles is Asya had to guess and found a beautiful city called Novi Grad. With two large rivers surrounding most of the town and a small population, Asya thought this was the perfect place to lay low for a while before trying to make a crossing over to the UK.
After all, she would need to fly across the English channel, not wanting to risk apperating as all the sport she knew were from a different world, and who knows what would happen if she tried to use them as a reference. Second, they may not even be the same, and she could apparate into a solid wall and splat.
Thankfully there was a small Hotel in the little town due to how beautiful the area around the town was, and Asya was able to use magic on all the hotel staff to get a room for 3 months and make them think she was staying with her parents. Asya hated using magic like this to cheat none magical's, but at the moment, she had no choice. It wasn't like she could pay in silver ingots.
Another exciting thing about the town was that Asya had felt magic. Someone in the town had magic, and this could be her pathway into the magical side of this world. Looking out from her window, Asya could see how peaceful this place was, and it was perfect for recovering from her time in the Red Room and the last month of running away, always looking over her shoulder.
It was even worse than when she and her best friends were hiding from Voldemort. At least then, they had magic to hide them and safe houses that were impossible to find, and the wizards knew nothing about the muggle world, so it was easy to blend in. She was glad that the Red Room was only a training academy and not a spy organisation, and while Asya was sure the KGB may be looking for her, she doubted they would look very hard, and she doubted that they would be looking two countries away. Asya hoped that by now, they thought she had died in the wilderness. After all, if she couldn't fly and use magic, she would have died long before she ever reached a town, let alone get two countries away.
So Asya was sure that she was safe enough to rest a little and relax, or she would end up snapping even 150 odd years later. Asya still remembered how they all broke under the pressure when on the run from Voldemort. However, the Horcrux undoubtedly helped push everyone over the edge, but she learned her lesson and knew she had to relax at some point, something the Red Room didn't bother to teach.
Asya wondered if there were any places to do ballet in the town. Every girl in the Red Room needed to know ballet as that was the cover for the school, and it was something that Asya found that she enjoyed, or maybe she was just conditioned to enjoy it, but she didn't want to give it up. Asya cast cleaning charms on her clothes before transfiguring them into a dress and went to walk around the town.
It was a calm and slightly warm evening. There were a few kids running around. It reminded her of Godric's Hollow. And brought a nostalgic smile to her face that would have seemed out of place if any of the adults were paying attention. Asya walked till she found the river that two kids were playing in. There was a diving board built on the bank that the young boy was jumping off into the river as his sister cheered him on.
It took Asya a few minutes before she noticed that the feeling of Magic she had noticed was actually coming from the girl on the bank, and it was very faint but potent in power. Strangely enough, the magic coming off the girl was something Asya had never felt in over the one hundred years she spent teaching at Hogwarts as the Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher.
Asya thought about talking to them, but it was already late. She wouldn't have enough time to get to know them and resolved herself to come back tomorrow. Walking back into town, Asya picked some food up from a little shop and had gone mad getting sweets. Asya hated that she had to use magic to get food and shelter. Still, she only needed to wait till night time and then she could use the Accio charm to gather all the lost money and then use the duplication charm to have near unlimited money. After all, Asya was sure that money wasn't magically protected in this world like it was in her original world due to the greedy goblins.
In the Red Room, they didn't get sweets or any types of treats. The best they got was fruit. Asya could remember how girls would store the fruit up so they could have a feast at the end of the week, even with the risk of lashes if they were caught with the stockpiled food. Something that had happened to Asya a few times was usually due to the other girls taking some of her fruit and then telling on her once they had eaten it and leaving the evidence to be found by the staff.
It was a common tactic to weaken the other girls before the monthly fight in which someone would always be killed. Fortunately, Asya's magic had always healed her quickly, so even after being punished, she was never weak. Had it not been for her magic, she would have died a long time ago of that Asya was sure.
Jumping onto her bed that seemed like the softest thing, Asya laid out her sweets in the order she planned on eating them before pausing for a minute and putting a bag of M&M's and a chocolate bar aside. Natasha had grown an obsession with M&M's while they were living together, and Yelena loved chocolate. It felt wrong to her that her sisters were not here to enjoy freedom with her. Asya picked up her sweets in a much more subdued manner, thinking about her sisters and her stupid father and her kind mother who used to fuss over Yelena Asya passed out to sleep without even casting her protection charms once again, crying for the loss of her family.
Red Room Command
"Report on the missing girl Madam B," Dreykov asked, looking at the report that he had been given about the situation.
"Still no sighting of the escape we have people posted at all the towns within forty miles, Sir." Madam B said, looking uncomfortable.
"Do we even know how she escaped undetected?" Dreykov asked, looking up at Madam B
"No, not yet, Sir. We have no idea how she got out and how no one saw her, Sir."
"Vostokoff, you spent three years with her any insight?" Dreykov said, looking at her.
"That was when she was six to nine Sir before the Red Room. Im, sure she is dead in the wilderness its been a week since she escaped. She was clearly too weak, and if by some miracle she isn't dead at this point, she will be found when she arrives in a town and killed for being so weak she ran away." Vostokoff said, looking uncaring.
"Madam B, make sure that no one else ad if any girl talks about it, have them killed slowly and publicly," Dreykov said, looking back at the report.
"Yes, Sir"
"Vostokoff, how long till we can start the new conditioning program," Dreykov asked.
"Animal trials will last around 8 years to make sure it works on a wide range of test subjects and has no side effects we don't know about. And then basic human trials, I would guess another 4 years Sir with a total 12 before I think we can go live." Vostokoff said, looking at her test data.
"Not to mention that the girl never even finished training. She was only halfway though she was not the first girl that got cold feet, just the first to escape and die like the weak animal she is." Vostokoff finished handing the test data to Dreykov.
Natasha POV
Natasha walked back into her house after finishing another mission and stopped cold on her desk was an envelope. Pulling out her gun, she slowly cleared the flat and found everything to be where it should be, no bugs planted, nothing wrong in the flat at all.
Natasha picked up the envelope and saw that it had no marks, nothing to give a clue who sent it. Picking up a letter opener, she carefully sliced it open and took out the piece of paper with a single sentence on it.
Asya escaped from RR. Been searching for a week presumed Dead
Vostokoff.
Even after all the training, Natasha had done, she couldn't help but cry. Knowing one of her little sisters was dead, she hoped that they would see each other again Natasha burned the letter.
Yelena POV
Yelena had just come back from the mess hall today. They had fresh oranges, her favourite fruit making a good day as days come in the Red Room.
All the girls knew that something just over a week ago had happened after all the alarms started blaring, and the guards scrambled to search for someone and checked every room and tracking dogs were deployed. None of the girls dared to speak of it through one girl had asked and was beaten to death in the dorm.
Yelena walked over to her bed and started to push the orange slices under her pillow for later when she felt some paper. She discreetly swapped the orange slices for the paper and walked to the bathroom. Sliding into a stall, she uncrumpled the paper to read it.
Asya escaped a week ago. No body found presumed dead.
Vostokoff.
Yelena felt like crying but knew that she couldn't show weakness here or it would be exploited in a heartbeat. She had spent the last three years hoping to see either one of her sisters but never did. Yelena hoped that Asya was still alive, even with how slim that would be.
